Title: Me batting
Post by: Woodyspin on February 23, 2016, 04:51:08 PM
Excuse the poor filming I sat it on a chair on what is apparently the bounciest sprung floor in the world (which is awful for cricket)

I haven't batted for a few weeks so foot movement wasnt great, but i never move mine loads anyway.

Enjoy... Maybe...

Due to the way I bat not sure any advice I can give you.

Will say two things!! Scooooop! Lol. Hows it going? And your a pretty tall guy!!

Not sure what you can do or if it offers anything but many times you walk right across your stumps and it does look like may are trying to bowl for lbws.

But the flick of the legs looks good and well practiced.

outside off and you don't look as fluent though.

The scoop is beautiful mate! Yes ive realise I do this and i think thats what Varun was planning when he bowled at me last year but more often i get a bit of bat on it! Might try changing the trigger to just across a little.

Not really gathered why my off side game isnt as good, i gather its to do with weight transfer, not bending my front leg and not keeping my left elbow high.

Look like a bottom handed boogaloo to me.

No front elbow and sit in a mid position and too much movement

When you do strike it though you do it well would still love to see you on your 85mph bowling machine setting you mention.

Sorry that's me bein mischievous.

Why the trigger what does it achieve for you

Pretty much what i gathered!

In the summer ill get the machine on 85mph but im not promising anything.

When i was younger, one of our first teamers suggested a trigger and it worked wonders and i think its just habit now, otherwise i wont move me feet. Will try not using one next time and see hiw that goes

It not so much that what is the point of it???

My issue and you wanted constructive advice is it not the same you change the movement and timing of it so your never really still so defeating the object of getting you in a position to play either forward or back.

The head over the front knee and shoulder can be worked on and done quite quickly.

Love the short pitched ball you played that well mate

Im with you, my foot movement wasnt best i know that. But ill try and concentrate on making my trigger movement at the same time and if i get enough balls outside off ill try practice my offside shots too

I would advise you to lose your trigger movement completely, you make yourself a total lbw candidate. Work on keeping your back foot planted, move your head inline with the ball and your front foot will follow finally, play the ball back in the direction it came from. You appear to be a little stronger on the leg side, do you grip tightly with the bottom hand?
How's the scoop? Must admit I have found most of the gn's to be very firmly pressed.
Good luck and keep enjoying your cricket.

I actually dont get out LBW as much as you think, 12 times total! But as Smilley said it makes people want to bowl at my legs more which i love!

I was very bottom handed that session though... The joys of being a number 10

Lose the trigger and stop walking across your stumps

I'd be bowling around the wicket looking to swing the ball away to try and get you caught or bowled round your legs

Ha ha
Good spirit, like it
How tall are you?
My little lads 6.5 and struggles a bit getting his eye in early on
Always wondered if it's a height thing, as he pulls and cuts unreal when it's under his nose, but low slow and he's knackered early on

Once played against an old boy who played everything to leg, he scored loads against us and was impossible to bowl at.
And that was up at upper wharfedale in the dales, which was a stunning ground and wicket
He just took a big stride to the pitch of the ball and bam, gone

I'm agreed with the others the foot movement is taking you in front of all 3 and at times you can sometimes see the base of leg stump. But if you like the feel of a trigger maybe start a bit further towards leg stump maybe outside so it's putting you more in line. Also do you find when the ball swings away starting on the line of the stumps you sort of square yourself up ? It looks like your pushing a bit at the ball and that back hip is coming round and squaring yourself up. It all looks very fidgety I get first few nets you try feel for the ball etc foot movement isn't great and what not. Maybe try be on your toes a little bit more and wait for the ball a bit longer. Also Northern monkey do you remember the name of the guy at upper wharfedale your referring to ? Sounds a bit like eggleton to me ?

Must have been over 25 yrs ago
It was a Sunday cup game and when we arrived he was cutting the outfield, which looked amazing as did the wicket.
They batted first and scored huge,(think it's still a record?) with the old boy scoring loads
I'm sure his wife did the teas too?

It may just be early season habits but you want to get out of them asap also all this information everyone is giving a. It does help but b. Can get too much inside your head leading to loss of confidence and overthinking technique. One thing I suggest will help with the squaring up is in your stance stand more side on so try get your front foot in level with your back just make sure it isn't in front of the other so when it comes to the offside your more inline and your a lot more side on it will make leaving the ball a lot easier as at the moment your front foot starts on the line of leg so anything outside off you almost have to double step to reach it. Also you'll find when you play outside off stump it tends to feel unnatural and your balance will be off. So to narrow it down close up your stand be more side on you'll find you can pick up the ball easier as you are more inline. See how that goes for you. And fair enough northern monkey the ground is very picturesque is a rather small boundary. Standard wise they aren't as good anymore they have been in bottom div for last few years. I think that record got broken again by upper wharfe with a lad scoring 340* in 40 over which is a fair knock they ended up scoring 440 or something like that. Who did you play for ?
