Title: Lignum Vitae mallet care
Post by: WalkingWicket37 on February 25, 2016, 12:54:03 AM
Hi all

I just got myself an LV mallet at what I think is a bargain price.

As I picked it up 2nd hand it didn't have any information on how to look after it.
I know you're meant to oil them, but does anyone have the "instructions" that they could take a picture of please?
Either that or could one of you lovely lot do an idiots guide to LV mallet care for me?

Cheers  :)

When not in use for extended periods of time just give it a very light smear of linseed oil and then put it in a plastic bag and tape it so its sealed

Don't be afraid of any small cracks

^ You have to oil the mallet like you would oil a cricket bat? With all that fuss, I am better off with my GN short handle mallet. :D

Mine when about a year old(aka now)

Never oiled, never treated, never cared for.

Not saying I'm right, just that I'm lazy and it seems to have very little effect on its looks, feel and ability to knock bats in,
