Title: Dotball or stumps! Northern net before season starts.
Post by: smilley792 on February 28, 2016, 10:13:34 PM
So can we fit a net in for us kept herb lot before the season starts? And preferably before the unofficial cbf vs hollinsend game. Then I can try and have a half idea on batting line ups and bowling.

So what days good for everyone and what time we wanting??

Sunday and Wednesday's are out for me due to club nets and indoor league.

What about if a bunch of Southern Pansies want to come up and invade your net?

We've all had our jabs.

Stumps would be easy for me, probably be able to sort out a discount out for you guys. They now have 2 bowling machines. The problem lane has now been rectified and probably plays the best.

Post by: hanif on February 28, 2016, 11:18:19 PM
Should be some demo bats available to try out against the bowling machine also. If there are any particular bats you would like to try out I could get this arranged.

If you sort it out I will try and arrange it, I'm a teacher so anything outside of school hours please!

If it's stumps early evening (after work would be best if people can get) to save me hanging around to much (I work some of the time just outside Wakefield but live in Rotherham). Appreciate booking maybe difficult with clubs already in - As hanif suggested if we've got the numbers have 2 nets 1 with a machine

Suggest some dates / check availability and I'll see if I'm about

It's like U15 county trials all over again!

Weekdays apart from Weds I won't be able to make it til 8pm, as my wife doesn't get home from work til 7:30ish and we have 2 children who would need a sitter.

Weekends will be ok after 10 March when Soph has her final exam. Until then I'm on full time childcare duty (children are 4 and 2).

Cheers

Morning,  I'll come along, depending on dates.

Our Club nets are Tuesday and Wednesday plus I'm out a lot with work in the next few weeks, but I'll be there if I can.

Like the 2 lanes / 1 bowling machine idea.

He will do 1 bowling machine lane and 1 normal lane for £40 so a small discount of £5, every little helps.  :)
Title: Re: Dotball or stumps! Northern net before season starts.
Post by: smilley792 on February 29, 2016, 04:09:35 PM
Saturday looks best.

1 lane and 1 bowling machine at same time may be hard to manage in terms of moving about maintaining bowlers?

2 hrs sat morning 11 till 1 anyone?

Title: Re: Dotball or stumps! Northern net before season starts.
Post by: hanif on February 29, 2016, 04:44:09 PM
I guess it all depends on numbers in regards to what will work best. You can count me in. If we get 12 lads then two normal nets would work well, below 10 lads then 1 normal net 1 bowling machine net would probably work out better.

It's why the majority seem to want, apart from my original post, I'm not sure dotball has been mentioned.

Also sat 19th is now out for me, as I'm at a christening and being the god father means I have to attend.

26th anyone? That way us wanting to travel down south can go to there net(if it is 12th)

@smilley792 if we confirm the day and book 1 lane for now, we can always extend to more lanes if we get a better turn out. 11am Saturday will be fairly quiet at stumps I would imagine.

Book it for the 12th at eleven please. And we may end up doing the 26th too......

If anyone's interested what about a lane for an hour and then machine after? If there's only 5/6 gives us 20mins batting in total but only an hour of bowling to get tired from?
Title: Re: Dotball or stumps! Northern net before season starts.
Post by: hanif on March 04, 2016, 09:17:02 AM
@smilley792  no problem will do. The bowling machine afterwards sounds like a good idea.

There is a pub about 2-300 yards from stumps, not sure what time it opens or if it is still trading. But you will pass it on the way to stumps.

@hanif. Rather keep it forum based for now so everyone gets a decent bat and bowl. Lots of numbers can dilute.

Cheers for organising this, it is much appreciated.

Unfortunately for me, I took a huge blow to my wrist at nets last night and currently can't grip a bat so my attendance is in jeopardy. I'm hoping ice and test will help me recover in time.

As its now 8/9'people I'm not entirely sure an hour will be sufficient. As its only about 8 minutes batting each.

1 and a half hour net will give every Atleast ten minutes
2hrs could be 15mins each.

What's everyone think?(dependant on availability of extending net)

Hi Andy, it probably explains why I had one more than hanif, but then I never actually counted. I just guessed. With the fragility of the forum "database", I didn't want to risk not getting the message out there.

There is qasims plus 1 plus hanif mate that merely signed up to come to add to.

Hi guys if everyone that is still coming could confirm by the end of today or tomorrow morning, that be great. Then we can decide on number of hours to book etc. As for my friend I told him it was only for forum members, his response was he had been a member for a while but had never previously posted. Hopefully we can still get enough people to have a decent net.

From what I can see

@hanif plus 1
@qasim_aziz99 plus 1
@123*
@rbanners
@SRH
@Ryan
@Simmy

Haven't dropped out, so that's 9 and possibly me if my arm comes alive.

I am confirmed - thanks for organising.

Chris - I've given myself tennis elbow just knocking in a couple of bats with my new LV mallet - 1kg (Samson, from Elviar) which is wicked but need to get stronger! In any case, will teach me to play with strong top hand! I reckon you should come if you can at all. Also have healing broken toe.

That's what you get for being 38 trying to keep up with 18 year olds.

My first forum event - really good to participate and put faces to names.

SRH had some lovely bats and can use them quite well too. Not too shabby with the ball either!

Good to meet Ryan and Simmy.

And Hanif and everyone else - much more so than ogling bats, playing some cricket was great.

If all our chat about getting an unofficial forum game organised results in us finding a venue I think we would have a really good game, even with me as weakest link.

Thanks again

It was a very enjoyable net today, and was nice meeting everyone. A preseason friendly would be great if it could be arranged. Alternatively another net before the season starts?

Forgot to mention that Hanif also knows one end of a bat from another.

Pretty militiary with line and length from left arm over also.

Good to play and talk about cricket first and play with each other's wood second (double entendre intended).

Really enjoyed our Saturday inspecting each others wood! Good turn out to. Especially enjoyed the Scott Borthwick bat, lovely shape. Hanif also had a nice collection of BAS bats on display. We do need to re-arrange this pre season friendly. Someone out there must have a club who can accommodate?
