Title: Masuri VS Elite Steel Grill
Post by: aman on March 06, 2016, 09:23:02 AM
Hey guys

Just wanted to get you opinions on the masuri elite steel grill. I'd go for the titanium but the price is way out of my league.
And also if there any good deals out there on the Masuri VS Elite Steel grill

Thanks guys!

If you're set on a masuri then the double bar actually has better visibility than the single, and you can't see the 2nd bar when you're wearing it (assuming you wear it correctly). The weight difference between the two is pretty much non-existent si you don't notice the difference when wearing them.

If it's got to be a Masuri, the cheapest new I can find is via Lorimers on EBay. In all colours, link here:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/ulk/itm/172008916695 (https://www.ebay.co.uk/ulk/itm/172008916695)

But, there is one a fiver cheaper, only in navy and I don't know the seller so can't vouch for them. Never had a problem with Lorimers.

https://www.ebay.co.uk/ulk/itm/231862102071 (https://www.ebay.co.uk/ulk/itm/231862102071)

Bit like Eliot says, plenty of bargains on here if you ask around.

Edit: misread the question  :-[ thought you were after the double bar. But as mentioned, the double bar is worth the extra. If only for peace of mind should you find the ball getting much bigger as it homes in on your forehead.

Cheers for spelling my name right mate ! Normally takes 10 goes at that. Agree all you have to do is ask and somebody will be able to give you advice. I was set on a masuri but once I spoke to ayrtek I just thought why not and for a considerably better helmet (I was looking at lowest possible masuri) I'm happy with my new lid

Hmm yeah looking at the Masuri double grill steel version. I just like the overall look of it. Have you worn one, hows the padding/comfort? I currently own a Froma Titanium and the comfort for that extremly nice plus the adjustabel strap.

Does Masuri still have the adjustable strap?

Edit: Yeah I'm looking for one in navy.

Haha, no worries mate. Must admit, when I first saw you pop up on the forum I thought you'd spelt it wrong yourself! 😂

If you're open to suggestions Aman, I've got a Shrey Masterclass Air Steel and I rate it, never tried on the Masuri though, and I hear the build quality is superior though I can't find anything wrong with my Shrey.

Yeah I'm open!

I was actually debating the Shrey to the Masuri but after looking at the prices which were pretty similar, thought the Masuri was a more solid helmet.

As far as I'm aware they have an adjustable strap. ItsJustCricket do some excellent reviews of the Masuri on thier YouTube channel that would be worth a watch to give you a better idea. See what you're saying about the price, I was set on a double bar Masuri but found the Shrey at a ridiculous price in the PDC end of season sale (Think I got it for around 60 quid) otherwise I'd be in the Masuri fan club!

Yeah, I'm not a fan of the design. I like the fabric on my helmets and the more traditional shape!

But thanks though!

Yeah finally feel like I can suggest things and have a little say. Really enjoying being on here today think I've gone from 80 to 105 posts quickly today. All seem a good bunch of blokes to have a decent chat about cricket with. Also in reference to the field coming in. Bad idea mate. I don't take well to that [emoji23]

Is there much diffrence between X-line and ELite? Considering I'm looking at the Elite in a steel grill anyways?

Edit: It appears X-line has been discontinued

There's a thread on it here Aman.

http://custombats.co.uk/cbforum/index.php?topic=31492.0 (http://custombats.co.uk/cbforum/index.php?topic=31492.0)

You can probably still find them knocking about, but I don't think there'll be many.

Oh yeah, so not much difference. I found one site that still have the titanium X-line but still priced quiet steeply but no steel grills

Post by: GoodLeave on March 06, 2016, 02:28:26 PM
Yeah, can see why they discontinued it.

I can find a steel one, but only in Green. £97. Titanium, also green £132.

Go with Masuri. I recently switched from Forma to Masuri. Initially it would feel heavy but after a while you won't notice the weight on the head. Visibility will be different compared to Forma, but couple of nets and you will be used to it.

I tried my friend's Shrey helmet and it is bit tighter than Masuri (comparing large size models in both). Feels lighter but I feel more comfortable with Masuri.

Woke up early on my week off so thought I'd look for you. Found this I'm unsure on the website as I've never used it but it's the cheapest I found by around £5 (http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160307/b3932c5ebf4e36813408ff31a30e162e.jpg)

Masuri has all the features which Forma has. Soft padding with a nice back strap to adjust the fit.

The grill on my Forma doesn't comply with the new UK standards. So the grill feels more closer to my face and I keep trying to look over the grill to get good visibility.

However on the Masuri the grill is perfectly aligned with the tip of the hat so there is bit of a gap between the grill and our face. The double grill is lined up horizontally, so when you wear the helmet it looks like a single piece. After a while it felt like I am starting to see through the grill. I never had that feeling with Forma though ...

Don't get me wrong. Forma is a good quality helmet but it's quite difficult for me to get them in US. So was looking for alternatives and Masuri fits all my requirements.

DO NOT SHOP FROM DISCOUNT CRICKET OUTLET!!!

They don't update the website, and don't actually tell you if products are out of stock. I heard nothing from them for two months, and it actually took me a week of chasing them up about my order to see where my money had gone and why I had received nothing.
I'm not the only one to have bad experiences with them either.

Oh and also they are owned by AllRounder Cricket!

Thanks @sanredose never got that feeling with my Froma

@Eliotrobets yeah would've been a great price. Tried calling my local shop but they don't open till mid day, so I'll go in and sus it out. Fingercrossed they have some sort of end of season discount. They have it listed at $200 on their site so even with all the shipping from buying it online it work out to be roughly the same.

Yeah for that much shipping I might as well buy the titanium version localy haha

It's time to put the Forma into retirement for the moment, after 7 years of good service!

As the search has concluded as at last I have found my treasure!
Was around $200 at the local shop which works out to be the cheaper if considering shipping charges as well. Tried it on there and really liked the fit, was nice and snugg and stays really well on the head.

Inner padding is a bit harder than the Forma but should get used to it.
I think aligning the double bar as a brilliant idea by Masuri, if you were to only look at it from the point of view that the person wearing it has then you wouldn't even know there one there! I really like it, can't wait to bat in it.

@GoodLeave Actually it's navy, I think it's just lighting. $200 Aussies a good deal after looking everywhere else, a lot of the times the helmet might have been cheaper but the shipping killed it!
