Not sure if many other people had noticed that Kumar Sangakkara has signed for Lancs as the overseas player for 2010 season. Possibly regarded as the hottest property in World Cricket right now which i agree with so i cant wait to see him very classy indeed and will do very very well. Great signing for the county game as players of this quality improve the standard and profile.
Not sure ho well Lancs will fair in the coming season but with him on board and Moore then if the others stay fit could be a much improved year or at least I'm hoping so.
-
will he ever play though?
-
What do you mean will he ever play ? I'm sure they are not paying him a huge contract to make the teas.
-
yhh i mesnt he'll be away on int. duty wont he? i mean big int. players are never around during season or have sri lanka not got tours??
-
Are you drunk?
Anyway players don't sign unless they are available for at least a portion of time otherwise whats the point.
-
no but reading back i write like i am. Silly comment though originally, i take it back. Just couldn't believe with amount of international cricket on these days that he'd be free to play enough to make it worth while. Think thats better worded...in a more sober way!

Will find out a bit more tomorrow as down in London as im sure we will have to produce a few more helmets for him on the county circuit as well as IPL colour scheme ones etc
-
No need to find out i have all the details, He will arrive in June once the international games are finished, Lancs will take another overseas player to stand in until Sangakkara arrives. Not sure who yet but obviously Kumar will arrive at the business part of the season when the wickets are best for batting. Would think Lancs would look for an all rounder as the overseas for April/May etc but not sure they will find one so possibly a spinner ?

Bit surprised LCCC didn't sign VVS again for next year. IIRC he was pretty decent.
-
VVS LAxman was Superb last season, but Sanga is better
-
Pretty decent is an understatement VVS is a classy player but not sure about India's international commitments so that may be the reason why vvs is not set to return but a great choice in Sangakkara. VVS is highly regarded at Lancashire and I'm sure they will look for him to return at some stage.

He doesn't play T20 or ODI and India have like only 3 tests next summer, so why didnt lancs sign him again?

wats does iirc stand for
-
I'm not 100% perhaps India board didn't sanction the deal if one was offered, or at times VVS was not consistent with the bat so they went for Sangakkara who is very very consistent ?

I think the BCCI is trying to get some extra Test matches in 2010(Pakistan begging to play India and NZ are supposed to tour India. Also two pointless Twsts vs Zimbabwe) , so signing VVS wouldn't have been worthwhile.

Jeet I seriously doubt that having listed to some of the commentators during the IND vs SL series. There was a mention that BCCI is trying to scrap the test (think against NZ) which are a couple of months before the World Cup.

Yash, Sachin and Dhoni have pleaded for extra Tests now that India has reached World No. 1. South Africa are set to tour India in February for a compressed series of 2 Tests and 3 ODI's in the space of 22 days!!
Also the NZ tour will most likely be played now as otherwise apart from South Africa, India will only play Bangladesh in two Tests and two against Zimbabwe, if they are given re-entry into Test cricket.
I hope India DON'T play Pakistan though. After what happened in Mumbai, I'd rather the PCB go bust then India help them make some money.
