Hi all
To try to stabilise the forum we are going to delete some older topics. It may impact your post count.
It should free up the database and stop the forum crashing...

Hopefully it won't impact the ability to see/yse the for sale/wanted sections if you posts drop?

Gents, it's time to clean the backend.

Where's 50 plus of my posts gone ?
-
Remember boys and girls, posts count equals (No Swearing Please) size!
Anyway, cleaning won't do squat! It's time to upgrade your server before the paying sponsors get upset and walk.
No forum equals no sale for them. So it's wasted money for a site that crashes every five minutes.

50 posts, that's cute.
I lost 700... ;)
In all seriousness unless losing posts means you can no longer access the sale section, who cares?
-
I lost 2.
I care!

Thanks for your wise words. Sadly, I'm afraid you are barking up the wrong tree. The server is doing just fine (in fact it's more than fine). We've been running into issues with the database on which the forum is built and the efforts being made are to address that particular component.

Given that the deleted posts were all old for sale items or from the 2 eBay threads you have little sympathy from me! I "lost" a similar number.

Most helmets, also loads of pads. Almost like he's got an addiction or something :-)

Anyway, enough about my bowling...

Because of deleted posts my mailbox has reduced in size so now it's 163% full. That means people cannot reach me. I tried to pm someone who was interested in a bat and his mailbox was full also.
I value this forum and the knowledge gained from the people on it. Thinking about it the funny thing is I am a kind of sponsor, if I haven't bought things directly from the obvious sponsors I have bought gear from people to go back and buy more gear.
I understand the logic just the ways and means could been thought out a little more. A bit of warning for example.

On jaffas point.
My inbox is at page 117 and counting. Is there a delete all option? Or an admin willing to empty it for me.
May make some space!

You have an option in your mailbox on the left hand side to prune messages under actions.
If you select this you can choose to delete messages older than a number of days.

@tim2000s have a word with simple machines please, they've spelt "database" wrong on the error message.......

@smilley792 SMF are correct - this error is caused by too much load on the server. But Tim is also correct in saying that the load could be a symptom of a poorly optimised database (or a rubbish server.)
-
@smilley792 well done, you can read the error message you receive.
Replacing the server will not fix the problem. The issue is caused by a database table crashing, which results in both SQL and SMF processes continually retrying to do things and never finishing. Commonly known as hanging, consuming both CPU and memory. The result is that we have too many processes that never recycle putting a huge load on the server and it then can't render the few html pages we have.
But we don't have an option of that as an error message.

How have I just seen this abuse I'm getting! Awful!
Being addicted to softs is cheaper than bats :D

Morning all - we are going to be tweaking the PM settings for members in the coming week (so consider this notice...)
Currently some members have no access to the PM function, others have a 25 message limit and others have unlimited.
We will be changing the settings so that those who currently have unlimited messages (other than sponsors) will be limited to 100 messages (which is still loads!)
Please can you prune your own messages before the machine prunes them for you...
Thanks
Instructions on mail pruning:

Any progress on getting the servers improved at all?
-
We have temporarily disabled access to the forum from Tapatalk while we upgrade some of the software. As soon as we have that completed, Tapatalk access will be restored.
-
Good work Tim, much appreciated by the rest of us! Feel like I've been through the entire rest of the internet to try and keep me occupied in the past few days.
-
Wondered why my Tapatalk was knackered...good job getting the site going again guys

That's something you change in your profile under "Look and Layout". The clock always runs in UTC.

Don't except a lift of me, no idea how to change it so it's wrong for 6months of the year!
