Title: Masuri Helmets
Post by: Seniorplayer on March 10, 2016, 01:01:13 PM
Been into Sports Direct this morning (well went to the chemists for  pain killers  and sports direct is next door) they have Masuri Advance Helmets at 39.99p junior and 49.99p senior.

that is for the kids lids (or badly labelled adult ones!) £49.99 for the adult lids

I paid £17 for this lid in the sports direct sale.

Absolutely don't do this but...

At 660 gramms this is what masuri could and should have done (no this isn't compliant now, but it is light and better than the old style lid.

I have removed the original grille and put one an old style titanium grille. The gap here is 55mm but I could put it to 45 mm.

Once the cardboard, unused prams and confiscated toys are removed there isn't much in my garage other than cricket and sports equipment and craft stuff for the kids... I think...

If you look closely, you can see Shaq Harris' leg and Talisman's arm

It took him an age to get rid of the stink of their BS.

Just a quick update to this post, I spoke to a very friendly guy from Masuri about getting a ti grille that is from the new range to fit this lid.

Effectively the answer is I would have to buy a new lid as the sports direct lids are custom for them and not the same as other models so the grilles won't fit.

Still it was very good of them to return my email with a call and we had a good chat.

I feel if we have these regulations there for safety we shouldnt as a country be selling anything without it passing... (yes i understand the dark matter of what is compliant and what is actually tested). Seems like we are just investing in what basically is allowing a plumber to do an electricians job.

So, Masuri helmets with adjustable grills were not safe? I love your sense of humor. :D

Ah, the best kind of helmet that is - one you don't get hit while wearing!

If we are supposed to 'buy into' these compliant helmets, for our safety shouldnt we only be selling ones that are up to standard. Same as a new home, you wont see any sockets at ground level... Just merely starting a debate, which is what forums are for. At least thats what i thought...

Ha no problem on the debate mate, just wasn't sure what you were on about with electricians and plumbers and Buzz's modified lid! Don't know that anyone is selling non-compliant lids anymore?

After a morning with a rasp and hack saw plus a ti grille from another helmet... compliant now ish... it appears that those nice people at masuri have, after all, made one type of grille and grille mounting for all their lids, as I suspected:

The lid now weighs 742g, so the double bar is fractionally (60g) more, I could take the padding off the ears, but not bothered...
The extra weight may be the swappa band rather than the foam I had previously too. (Marginal I know!)

Here is the other half with replacement screws in (the old one way safety screws got a little mangled by the rasp/hacksaw/screwdriver combo)

Thanks to Jake for the new helmet padding. Fits a treat now, had to trim the padding a little, but am happy.

Have used this in the nets a few times and am really pleased.

The main thing I was worried about was the visibility, but the gap isn't the issue I thought it might be and it is a very light lid.

Yet another update to this, it is great to wear, I have now used it in three games.
I have also managed to pick up a stem guard on ebay for £20...

£20 stemguard? Bargain.

Also, top work organising your foam, felt and tissue. Must get around to organising mine.

However, far too much naked feet action going on. Room for improvement.
