Title: Carbon Fibre Rods
Post by: ogroupleader on March 14, 2016, 09:36:57 AM
I have seen a couple of bats for sale with carbon fibre rods through the blade - Impala Pendulum and SF Black Reserve.

Has anyone used one of these?

Have just started using an SF Black edition and cannot possibly imagine a bat being more powerful than this - just don't think it's possible.

Discuss.

Gimmick like most of Impala's stuff, both out of the same factory.

Don't bats have to be made of 100% wood?

To be "Grade A" and legal for first class use, yes.
As most of us aren't pros we can use whatever we like really

I always thought you needed A for any games played under MCC laws?

That's not true. The naming is now "Type", they changed to avoid confusion will willow grading. All types must be made solely of wood.

Type A is mainly pro cricket. Anything below Minor counties but played under MCC laws is usually Type B or C. Type B & C can have toe/side inserts. Toe inserts can go 2.5" up the blade. Side inserts can go 1" in from either side. But they must be made from wood.

Only the blade has to all wood. The handle is to be made primarily of wood  / cane. There is some scope for rubber, steel, titanium or carbon fibre in the handle.
