Title: weight reductions
Post by: Mr Cricket on December 30, 2009, 09:30:37 PM
how neatly are weight reductions done?

i am sending two bats to gunn and moore to have 4 oz off one and 2 oz off another.

how will they do it and will it leave noticable marks?

cheers

not sure how they do it but done properly shouldnt be a single mark, should look brand new (on the back anyway)

probably just a case of taking a small amount of wood off around the shoulders and the toe. Could be done by sanding too. I'm sure it will look fine, shouldn't send you a bat back looking untidy anyway...

Having 4oz taking from a bat is never a good idea as i feel its too much and changes the pick up and balance and profile of a bat too much. If gm are doing it they will be like new though no problems at all, did they not say anything when you asked for 4oz off the bat unless its a 3lb bat that is.

yeah was gonna say, how heavy was the bat that you asked for 4oz off?

i havent sorted it all out yet, ive contacted them and waiting for them to get back to me. Both bats are GM, ones an Icon (2"10) thats ready for a refurb and the other is an unused Catalyst (2"12) i would like both of them to be shaved down to 2"8 or 2"9 which is a more suitable weight for me, might even leave the Icon as it is yet im not 100% sure! Catalyst deffo needs a couple of oz off at least anyway. Just wondering whether it would make the bat look scruffy are mark it, because i am a complete neat freak on kit!

lol, no worries then. i had mine reduced by M&H at the end of last season. looked new, as they refurbed it at the same time.... the performance will probably drop a fair bit with 4oz less but you regain that with a faster bat speed...

maybe just take 2 oz off the Cat'... main thing is i will have two similar bats at an equal weight which i can lift without assistance by the end of it :) 2"8-2"10 is my area

id not normally suggest taking 4oz off a bat so if you can settle for 2oz or even 3 if you have to them go for it, they will come back like brand new thats for sure.
