Gday fellas,
Just thought a topic with everyones bats that they have made would be nice and interesting, so post away! :)
-
Ive never made any bats... might try it one day! Have you made one?
-
I would love to make but sadly I do not have the ability. I was going to take DT and GCSE's and make one for my project but decided against it.
-
yes danny
I was going to do that aswell but did the same as you and went against it
-
I havnt but i do plan on making one and getting into it in the future, i am doing woodwork at school so when i feel i am ready i hope to make a few!
-
I have :)
Made a couple of bats, the first was a small tradionally shaped bat which i wasn't impressed as the cleft had split down the back of the bat so by the time i took out enough willow the bat had a shallow spline.
The last one i made was a real success, was a 1000 times better than i could've imagined producing, here are the pics of it.

The bat weighs 2'10 and is a Grade 1+ with 12 straight grains. Was going to keep it for myself but decided to sell it. I'm waiting for a delivery of willow so i can make one for myself.
If anyone wants any advice on making a bat i'll do my best to help, i'm still a complete novice myself when it comes to bat making!

Thanks E4sby! Podshaver status awarded for you 8)

That bat looks gorgeous....Can't wait to see some more... ;D
-
The bat is in my bag still unused still not sure whether to use it for myself. In two minds at present but could let it go for the right offer.
-
How Much Would You Be Looking For?
-
Sorry for the late reply, the bat is now in the for sale section and open to offers over £100 mark
-
My bats nearly finished, pics will be up soon...
-
im making a eye in bat thingy at the moment. although its kinda gone on hold due to tests and assignments. ive got holidays tomorrow so i try and out up some pics when its done. also pings pretty well for non-willow
-
non willow :S What did you make it out of!
-
i dont have a clue. my dad just brought it home and the ball went far enough. but i dont have the proper tools. so ive used a ginder and a chisel.
-
I made a couple out of scrap wood in woodwork for some fun ;D
They were shocking, apart from weighing about 5 pounds the vibrations were horrible as they had no proper handle.
I would love to have a go at making a real cricket bat but i think it would be quite expensive.

Fusion Sports sell part made bats that budding batmakers can then finish!
You can get them at different stages depending on how much work you want to do on it!
They range from £60 - £80 for a level 2 cleft.
Tom will be able to provide more details for you ...
-
Might not make any friends with customs tryin to import wood to Aus :-\ but the idea from fusion is a good'un.
You guys have it good over in England. IMO the best bats are English companies who dont retail in Aus (e.g Salix, Newberry).
-
Maybe try asking one of the Aus companies on this page if they can make you a part made bat?
