Title: Wayward_Hayward's bat making thread
Post by: wayward_hayward on March 28, 2016, 04:30:57 PM
I'm sure most of you have seen my bat refurbishing skills in my refurb thread. I'm now at a stage where I feel confident to move forward towards making bats and hope to start making soon. Like in my refurb thread, I will post updates of my success and failures to keep track of my progress. Hopefully you enjoy the efforts of a bat nerd trying to become a podshaver.

Current situation
(http://i931.photobucket.com/albums/ad158/ncfcrgr8/IMG_20160328_170952.jpg) (http://s931.photobucket.com/user/ncfcrgr8/media/IMG_20160328_170952.jpg.html)
I have one handled and pressed cleft and one that requires both handling and pressing. My tool situation is currently one flat spokeshave and a drawknife.

Below is a basic list of tools required for the job, let me know if I'm missing anything or don't need them.
Drawknife
Spokeshave -flat and round base
Plane (No.4) - flat and round base
Travisher
Rasp

Any advice or tips from any of the bat makers around would be greatly appreciated.

You're forgetting a top quality Sharpie.

A couple more photos of the clefts I have. The grainy handled cleft is bit too nice for a first attempt  :(

What had this got to do with me and why am I getting lots of emails saying I've been tagged? ???

Because you've been tagged, maybe?

Evidently...
Was more a rhetorical question as to why I'd been tagged in the first place

Because you are yet again another victim of the paralysed finger / partially sighted / attention-deficient posting!

At least it's given me a kick up the backside to get this project going again. Only problem is playing and coaching takes up most of my time at the minute.

Finally time to update this thread. After many months, I have a workshop thanks to @GeorgeB93 garage. We spent the day buying a vice and getting that fitted.
