Title: Joker Mini splice
Post by: ogroupleader on March 30, 2016, 11:43:08 AM
Why do other bat makers not use a mini splice like the joker?

It was first done, as a promo/gimmick feature, as part as the MMi3. It's not really a mini-splice, it's just the shoulders are cut away. Most clefts aren't long enough to do this on a full length bat.

We managed to do it just about with the CoR3, but it also puts a lot of wood into the handle (taking it right to the limit in terms of MCC laws) and also reduces the amount of join between willow and wood, potentially weakening the join. I'll see if I can get an untwined bat to show you.

The mongoose splice concept was really good but this is different to the joker is it not?

Exactly the same. You just move more of the join into the handle.

In the case of the Mongoose, all of it is in the handle. In the case of a joker, just 1" more is in there.
