Title: How do you pack your duffle?
Post by: brokenbat on April 07, 2016, 05:16:14 PM
This is what I have found works best for both the Supernova, as well as last year's Kook Pro Players duffle.

The logic I use is that when I pad up to bat, I should be able to do so without taking everything out of the bag first. And so this is what I ended up doing in the main compartment:

Helmet at the very bottom, straddled by my batting pads (I only have one pair). I also slide down my chest guard (not used in games) and have it "hug" one of the batting pads.
Elbow guard, gloves piled on to the helmet.
Next come the thigh guards....resting on the two top hats of the batting pads.
Box on top of thigh guards.

So, when I pad up, I just open the top flap, and go about it (box first, then thigh pads, etc, etc, helmet at the very end).

Everything else goes around this basic concept. One side pocket is the dedicated "infrequent use" pocket, and has spare stretto fox straps, medical stuff, etc.

All other stuff (whites, socks, shades, balls, etc) gets distributed in the other pockets and shoe tunnel (I also stuff a few balls in the shoe tunnel).

I use the Supernova as well but pack it as follows:

Main component:

- pads against back
- thigh pads in front
- helmet on top of that

Front pocket:

- 2x pairs of gloves and inners

Left side pocket:

- shades and cap

Right side pocket:

- bat grips
- bat tape
- scissors
- grip cone

Shoe tunnel:

- spikes
- balls

Bat compartment:

- surprisingly I put my bats here

Whites/towel/toiletries I carry in a small hold all

Two helmets at the bottom, followed by batting and keeping pads; strippers go next to them and then batting and keeping gloves go at the top.

Yet to find a place for my spikes, may have to find a bag for them!!

The way I pack my supernova duffle:

Main pocket:
Batting pads at back,
Keeping pads at front
Strippers, helmet and box on top of pads

Front pocket:
Currently empty, will have whites when season finally starts

Left side:
Balls
Gloves

Right side:
Keeping gloves
Batting inners

Shoe tunnel and bat cave are used as per name

Thigh pad sat on top of helmet
Bats in bat sleeves at the back of the bag

Box Brief
Spare studs
Deep heat
Fibreglass tape

Top Compartment:
White's and any spares (etc extra white trousers and socks)

How I pack my Warbird duffle:

Open the top, pads down one side, everything else just chucked in

helmet at the bottom, pads on top of that, gloves and strettons either side, whites in the front pocket, bits and bobs in the side pocket, plenty of room left still in the supernova, great bag btw

Cam isn't there a shoe compartment and a helmet compartment? where are they?

Down the bottom. Not needed shoes yet as I've only used it indoors but there's a pair of trainers in there (not moved since I first packed the bag) and the helmet section is empty. My lid goes in the main compartment.

Assuming you have to put them both in before the rest of your kit?

The shoes? Can chuck them in the shoe tunnel whenever
The bag has enough room I can pack all the crap I could ever need for a game, plus some extra, and I don't have to manoeuvre stuff in

Both them and the helmet was thinking about getting one as my GM bag is massive but doesnt really hold alot so it seems, do you reckon you could get 2 pairs of boots in the boot pocket? Or 1 pair in the shoe and 1 in the helmet pocket and just put the helmet in the main compartment

You could probably get 3 pairs in the boot tunnel if you really wanted to mate, my one pair probably feel a bit lost

I have the GN1000 2015.

Shoes in the bottom shoe pocket, obviously. Batting pads in first upside down, then thigh pads, keeping pads, helmet with box and batting gloves/inners inside. Bats in the bat sleeves, controversially. Keeping gloves, inners, whites, spare batting gloves and small absorbo towel in the top pocket. Spare inners, socks etc in the side pocket (can't get much else in). Old ball, energy sachets, electrolyte tabs and first aid kit/shower bag in front pocket. Carrier bag with food just to look like a pro. Probably also dragging a katchet board and a few other toys in the hope we might warm up.

Why pads upside down?
Title: Re: How do you pack your duffle?
Post by: HallamKeeper on April 08, 2016, 10:51:05 AM
Wider at the top so I put them upside down so there is more space at the top for my helmet. Tend to get my keeping stuff out as soon as I arrive and pretty much assume we are bowling as I bat 5 so have plenty of time to change pads if we bat. Hate rushing.

You put your box inside your helmet? That's not a nice mix after a long day in the sun...

My helmet is in much worse state, so to speak. Usually give the box a quick wipe if it is sweaty but after 5 mins air drying it is fine. Only stays in my bag for an hour until I'm home then it is all out to air dry over Sunday. Also wash my helmet sweat pad after each use, sick of getting bad skin after a hot day.

This thread kinda makes me glad I didn't get a duffle, I just got a massive bag so I just throw everything vaguely towards my bag and do the zip up. No strategy, no organization, no worrys :D

Our changing room is about 3m x 3m so I was under pressure to slim down, in both senses.

I am currently using the Supernova duffle.

Main Compartment:
-Pads at the bottom
-Aero P1 strippers thigh pad next to it
-Helmet in the Masuri bag with my net inners and batting gloves
-Match batting gloves on top of my thigh pads.
(When the outdoor season starts I will be able to place my whites and spare training kit on top)

Front Pocket:
I have bottles of water and small towels in this pocket

Side Pockets:
-3 pairs of Oakley sunglasses
-Match inner gloves
-Spare spikes
-Club cap
-Cricket balls
-Bat care (grip tape and fibreglass bat tape)
-Medical supplies (freeze sprays and gels etc.)

Shoe Tunnel:
-2015 Adidas Adipower Vectors

Bat Section:
-Willostix Anaconda (Stickered as a Spitfire from being serviced)
-Soon I will have 2 Spitfires once my new one is fully prepared with an anti scuff sheet and fibreglass tape.

Small Front Pocket:
I don't currently have anything in there but I will place some small items when it comes to game day

Thank you :) During the summer my clubs nets are on a Thursday evening so my gloves are often sweaty for Saturdays even though I'm mainly a bowler I like to be sure. I'm also very superstitious with my kit so it all needs to be in a certain way

only thing I don't like about the shoe tunnel is how squished the shoes get...am going to try shoving a little cardboard "shell" for the shoes in the tunnel.

Was thinking the same thing myself having packed my spikes in my GM Duffle today. Going to have a look around the house for a tuppaware box big enough to take them. That'll give it rigidity at the bottom of the bag aswell to help it stand up?

I haven't had a problem yet as I put my boots in the tunnel very early when packing it for the first time but I'll have a look and keep an eye on it over the season

That should do it. They also don't air out when squished. Had ended up just using the tunnel for balls, and carrying my shoes by hand from my car.

Exactly.

Yet to find a box big enough. Curse my size 11 feet! Would drill a few holes in the side to help ventilation.

May require a shopping trip... Urgh.

I don't usually pack my kit up until I'm about to leave for the game so it never bothered me that my shoes were a little squashed, especially as I get them out straight away when I arrive at the ground so I can practise etc. Maybe leave your bag on its side when you can so the weight doesn't press on the shoes?

I might play around with those cylindrical shipping tubes....cut one up to see if that does the trick.

I have it...and they do get squashed...as is the case in all duffles to date, as the shoe tunnel has always been at the very bottom.. this is why we've been brainstorming solutions in the comments above ;)

That's interesting I'll have to keep an eye on that as I've only used my Supernova duffle twice and only packed it 3 times, I'll be very careful with it during the season
