Have my first outdoor practice with my new club tomorrow, and first friendly this weekend ahead of league opener next Sat.
Been netting OK for last month or two but haven't played Saturday cricket for 7-8 years. It seemed a good idea to get back into it but the nearer it gets, the more daunting it becomes! :)
Anyone else suffer from pre-match nerves? I know it's only a game and is supposed to be fun etc but interested to see who else is affected, and how they cope!

Remember it's a long season with lots of cricket to play. I had a total shocker on Sunday in our first league game but we won and everyone was happy and aware that it was my first league game for them and I was a bit gutted....a good team will get behind you. Don't try and do anything you wouldn't normally do just play your game and remember why you got back into it.
Good luck, you'll smash it!
Let us know how you got on buddy.

Embrace the nerves to a certain degree, everyone will be feeling them first few games trand equally everyone always has a few insecurities about their game
If you're batting just watch the ball
If you're bowling just focus on that tip of off line
No need to over complicate it in your head which we can all tend to do when the nerves kick in

Once recovered from my kidney problem will Also will be playing for a new team this season when batting my approach will be simply : don't do anything outside of what your capable of.

Embrace it, don't hate it!
Shows you want to do well!
Head down and drive!

Make sure you attempt to put your first ball out of the ground over the biggest tree around!
Go hard or go home....

I always get nervous just before going out to bat whether it is in a net or in an actual game. For some reason I get a little shaky but as soon as I walk into the net and take my stance in a net session or step inside the boundary in a game the nerves seem to go away and I can tend to relax and enjoy myself. Last season when I batted for our twos for the first couple of times I got really nervous cause it was something new to me, and in these games I didn't relax and got myself into silly positions and got myself out too much. Once I started to stop thinking about the situation and thought about batting I was fine.

Make a statement
If you bowl, bowl a screaming fast full bugger at the batsmens head
If you bat, skip down the wicket and dil scoop it
And in the field, dive for and appeal for EVERYTHING!!!

What about the keepers? sledge every ball? :D

I think the best way way to avoid the jitters is to understand what you can and cannot do build a a game plan around it and as far as possible stick to it.

For got the keeper!! Yep sledge every ball and whip the bails off, even if he hits the ball

haha that would really annoy the batsmen, I played in a game once when every time I missed the ball the keeper took the bails off and appealed as well. I also played in a game where one bowler appealed for LBW every time the ball hit the pad even if it was outside the line, would of missed the stumps or even if the batsmen hit it first. They are frustrating players to come across but tend to be very effective.
