New county season starts today, and the first 50 of the season goes to Steven Mullaney!
His mullanator from b3 must be working well!
Looks like Hants are struggling against warks, 4 down for just 50 too
-
59-6 now, welp.
Watching Surrey v Notts, a bit meh. Mullaney likes Footitt a fair bit.
-
C'Mon you Bears!
-
Ben Duckett smashing it!!
-
Sussex can't have any bowling.. Northants are poo .. They talked up promotion.. Glad I didn't bet on them
-
Surrey getting Ravi Rampaul is a bizarre decision, completely forgot he existed!!
-
All these no balls, Jesus...
-
I really hope Essex put a good season together this year, they've threatened promotion for the last few years and always blown it
-
for anybody that is interested notts v surrey live stream here
http://live.trentbridge.co.uk/#stream (http://live.trentbridge.co.uk/#stream)
-
I can't believe the Northants scores we are past two hundred for once
-
Lad didn't want to shoulder arms to that.. Ooppss
-
Surrey getting Ravi Rampaul is a bizarre decision, completely forgot he existed!!
Look how that turned out 😜
-
Is the ECB app not showing the highlights anymore :(
-
Top knock from Steven Mullaney.#B3
-
Ben Duckett future england keeper?
glove work has always been good from what ive seen and he is only 20-21?
-
I'm going to start a petition to have Mull open with Captain Cook in the Tests this summer :D #B3belter
-
Well the tests against Pakistan and Sri Lanka are a perfect opportunity to look at some real talent.
-
I'd say Foakes is ahead of him, what with being involved with the England Lions recently etc.
Also lets talk about Collingwood's first ball of the season being an absolute jaffa
(https://fat.gfycat.com/FaintBronzeAquaticleech.gif)
-
I was only joking, I think Hales will open all summer pretty much and if he doesn't do well it won't be long before Lees gets a go.
Also @rickjames that's a beaut, did you see the yorker that got Tres?
-

I'd agree but Northants seem not to keep with him
-
Sad to see Reece Topley break his hand on debut yesterday. Career best too. Think we're going to miss his batting.

First game of the season, we bat first and he breaks his hand batting. That went well then..........................

Sanga is a ****ing GOD

Ton up for Ian Bell. You just don't lose it overnight
but are his best days behind him with no hope of an England recall? He says he still wants to play for England,or maybe he is just motivated to give something back to Warwickshire..
:)
-
Ton up for Harinath, survive these 20 minutes and two sessions tomorrow and hopefully we'll have nabbed a draw

It's a discussion no one wants to have so soon, but who replaces the magnificent james Taylor(get well soon bud).
Ballance? Bell? Vince?
I'm sure bell wouldn't have wanted it this way, but it is a door that may open.
-
I'd say Ballance at 3, all reports seem to suggest he's in good knick. Keep Root at 4.
-
(No Swearing Please) it throw Duckett in why not
-

Taylor batted at five, so I'd suggest that's where a new batsmen comes in.
We won in SA. So id say for first test Atleast it will be
Hales
Cook
Compton
Root
Ballance/bell/Vince
Stokes
Bairstow
Ali
Finn/wood/Plunkett
Broad
Anderson.

have to say I did have half a mind on todays very sad news about JT....no fan wants his career to be over but unless there is some sort of miracle-it is....
There is a gap thou.....I actually think if Bell scores runs he could be in the group Bell,Vince,Ballance.....
The door has not closed on him and he has def not closed it himself.
I don't think personally, and I know it's been done to death on here, that Hales will ever be a Test opener.
Balance and Vince, yes I think England want those 2 next. But who knows?
-
I feel for Duckett a bit, game gets abandoned before he get the chance to finish off his triple century
-
Borthwick might be a shout for 3.
-
We're still probably gonna lose, but Tom Curran is gr8
-
Looks like a good finish is on the cards at Trent Bridge. Notts 100/5 needing 169 to win.
-
No matter how well he played, Sam Robson's kit has gone off the rails!!!

double ton for Trott. Old style helmet too I think.
Bit sad how it ended with England but I still think he was our best number 3 since.........David Gower.

Look at them gloves, who does he think he is? MSD?
-
A foxy arm guard as well, he's like a club player having all different kit.......fair enough it is all from the same brand though.
-
I loved the feel and fit of the Gen X gloves but the black thumbs were just a massive no when batting with white grips!
-
Hampshire are breaking all their players. So much so, the coach has had to come as a sub fielder!!

He is apparently notorious for just not giving a **** what he looks like at the crease. he pretty much uses whatever bats are sent to him too ive heard.
not a fussy man

Unbelievable!
Then again Dave said loads of times that us clubbies are fussier than the pros.

village kit aint doing him any harm, ton up to follow a double in the first innings.
is he in the mix for a recall I wonder. You often see high scores around this time of year, but there's certainly been some big ones this week.
England obviously liked Robson first time around, but like a load of others, some holes in technique got showed up, big hundreds tend to talk thou regardless of technical issues.
-

trouble is, it just proves how poor county cricket is
-
Tim Ambrose with the sneaky wicket of Adam Voges. Love it when a keeper gets the pads off for a bowl!
-
The entire side had a bowl!! Village cricket comes to the county championship!
-
Sangakarra is brilliant. I love him. 59th first class century for Trescothick as well, all the old boys are turning up.
They're off now for snow, which at the end of April is definitely, err, normal?
-
Prob not what you want ball 1 of the day...

New bat please Kookaburra
-
Moeen Ali is not looking a test spinner at Bristol, he's been smashed around in both innings, particularly today! Hoping for an interesting finish to the game.

Not many spinners look like test spinner in an English April!

Well most of us don't think he is test class but he is 'the spinner in the test side'....that's the best way I could describe it. Personally I don't see much between the batting of Rashid and Ali, and Rashid is the better spinner.....don't think Adil gets much of a mention for his batting on this forum but he is far better than given credit for.
In another game Mark Stoneman gets a ton...just to mention for our northern friends on the forum. This guy gets runs at the hardest ground to score in the Country.
:)
-
Ain't hard to score runs there this week!!!
-
Ain't hard to score runs there anywhere this week season!!!
I've edited it for you
-
Not many spinners look like test spinner in an English April!
Ha this is fair, Rashid seems to be bowling well though! You'd hope Moeen could hold up an end at least. Glos 350 ahead with 66 overs left, just declared as I type! Fingers crossed for some early wickets to make it interesting.
-
Ain't hard to score runs there this week!!!
you fancy yourself a bit?......as a batter....
200 league runs is your target this year. You can do it. anything over and i'll by you a pint
-
200 league runs!!! It's getting in to bat with enough time to score some runs that is the problem!!
Unless of course, I attempt to do it in 3 innings!
-
Willey making his Yorkshire debut against Notts.
Alex Hales plays his first hand of the season.
Notts also have Stuart Broad, Samit Patel, Michael Lumb, Harry Gurney, Chris Read & Jackson Bird playing - all of who have international experience.
Yorkshire have 7 England players in Lyth, Root, Ballance, Bairstow, Rashid, Plunkett & Willey

Should be a good game; an I right in thinking this is the first time Stuart Broad has played at TB since the ashes?
-
Yorks dishing up slow half volleys currently. Looks like a pre season friendly!! Hales being made to look good, Same with mullaney
-
This is good advertising for B3!!
Especially with that 6
-
Plunkett showing good place in his first over
All of 78mph!
-
Whoever it was thought Willey had the chance of a Test call up, he's looking innocuous and going at almost 5 an over.
-
Whoever it was thought Willey had the chance of a Test call up, he's looking innocuous and going at almost 5 an over.
Anyone sensible knows he'd be toast at test level, he looks utterly abject against Notts!
-
With all the debate about Compton at 3, does anyone else think Tom Westley could be worth a look?
-
Well, I've only seen Westley live a few times, seems like more of a limited overs player like Joe Denly was. His right arm darts may help him here.
He only averages 32, but has shown marked improvement over the last year.
-
His knock against the Aussie's last summer seems to have given him a bit more belief in his ability and so far his performances have been on par with Cook's and they seem to bat well together.
-
Top session for Yorkshire - Brooks bowling some nice stuff and Rashid giving control - definitely think the selectors should be having a serious think about the spinners spot! Issue is, Moeen has a fairly good record
However, seeing some of these deliveries floating down at 70mph.. I fancy my chances... and that's with the ball and I'm a batsman! Hahaha! :D
-
wonder if the speed gun is out - at one point, it was arguing that the military medium Patto was bowling 5mph quick than the distinctly rapid Plunkett...
-
Jake Ball looks a decent prospect running through the Yorkshire top order
-
Thought I'd have a day watching Root and company piling on the runs - only goes and gets out first ball!
Ball is bowling some snorters - absolute beauties.
Think the speed gun may well be a bit out - if not then I'm reclassifying myself as an All-Rounder!
-

Waiting for the calls to get him in the Test side...
-
JR was also wearing a Shrey for the one ball he faced.
-

Must be international class.. He's had a good spell..
Broad bowling 78mph!!! Wow, severe lack of pace about
-
Waiting for the calls to get him in the Test side...
Well he did get Joe first ball......
-
A good spell yeh, definitely had some luck on his side with the Lyth decision which was a very poor one, and I think we all saw Root's ball clearly bounce before it went into the hands
-
Absolutely amazing interview with James Taylor during lunch, definitely worth trying to catch it sometime.
-
Currently loving Cricketing Yorkshire - makes me wish I'd worked harder at my game and discovered cricket a bit earlier!
James Taylor feature is really humbling and makes you realise just how lucky you are! Might have to exercise a bit more and get in shape as you just don't know what you've got until you lose it!
Lees looking good again; could be in line for a go as Cooks opening partner?
-
the James Taylor interview really was interesting viewing
i had to pick my jaw up from the floor when he mentioned that his HR was going at 265bpm
-
Anyone have a link to that interview?
-
Thought that was a pretty selfish knock from balance, batting at a SR of 50 in a chase. More worried about impressing in front of the cameras after his first innings failure then giving his team a chance to win.
-
had a good day watching worcester vs essex. always going to end as a draw but got to see some good batting.
-
Think that James Tomlinson deserves a call-up. Didn't expect to be bowling after the end of April but still getting those LBWs. Proper county pro.
-
Pretty Selfish - agreed; but if he'd stayed around and anchored one end, allowing more naturally aggressive batsmen to attack - it'd have been the right move.
I think Lees will be in line for a call-up at some point soon - but get some more county work under his belt, wait to see how he gets through another difficult period where runs are thin on the ground, and take him touring with the Lions this winter and look to start him in tests next year based on performance. I wouldn't be against him getting a shout against Sri-Lanka or Pakistan, but feel a Lions tour would be a better way to go; with the Ashes being the end of 2017, there's plenty of time. Lots of exciting young lads starting to crop up to replace the current crop although I feel we've been spoilt a bit with Anderson and Broad as an opening duo.
- Side point; could Taylor's departure lead to a new face in the middle order - if so ECB management may want to keep changes elsewhere to a minimum!
-

Pretty sure it was more or less calculated - Yorkshire wanted to get to tea with Notts believeing that the game was meandering along to a draw, believing, probably correctly, that there was less danger to them in chasing 175 in 20 overs with eight wickets left than trying to chase 300 in 45 with nine.
-
Raviiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii
-
I will be at headingley for the last two sessions! Hope there some Yorkshire batsmen left for when I get there!
-
TOMMY
-
Looking like Hampshire's injury problems have finally become too much. Lancs 74 ahead with 9 wickets in hand and it's not even lunch on day 2. really hope they can find a way to hang on until Topley, Berg and Stevenson are fit again. Edwards is a big loss.
-
Anyone know why Bell is batting at no. 7? Was he off injured for some time or something?
-

Yeah, read somewhere on my Timeline he had a niggle or something? Said he'd still bat for Warwickshire if enough time elapsed and allowed him to do so
-
Sounds like Bairstow is going at it. Eurgh...
-
Bbc just said an unfit bell only made 7, doesn't sound good for his England recall chances if he's picked a niggle up so close.
Bairstow to 50 off 30 balls. Yorkshire!!
-
Is there anyway to watch these county games on TV? Sky although with the broadcast rights don't seem interested in them?
-
Only commentary on BBC website and local digital stations. Sky will show the odd game and a couple of counties are testing live streaming from a single camera. For now we just have to make do with daily highlights on the ECB web sites
-

Glamorgan website have a live stream of their game, just HDMI it up to your telebox.

150 partnership for root and Bairstow..... Come on boys

Hamstring strain he picked up yesterday in the field apparently. Was going to bat at 4 but couldn't as he didn't field for the final session yesterday so had to wait that amount of time.
-
Yet another ton for YJB, serious Ginger-Purple patch!!
-
Reporting that Bell is out of contention for the 1st Test. Compton and Ballance haven't taken advantage today either. Fingers crossed for James Vince.
-
100 up for Root
250 partnership up for Root and Bairstow
At pretty much a run a ball
YORKSHIRE!
-
Just seen this from Steven Croft yesterday to run out James Vince. Pretty special.

-
Bairstow and root partnership past 300. Putting on the runs in style here.
-
bairstow is a far better player now than when he first played for England
There will soon be a debate about Butler plays as keeper and Bairstow as a specialist batsman
I would put money that that is what England want to happen. Whether is does or not who knows....
-

Tom Westley mate!!
-
Root and Bairstow absolutely smashing it against the Ray. :(
-
Sam Robson with another ton.
Put him in to open and drop hales to three.......
-
Compton hasn't really done his case many favours so far has he, no scores over 45 while everyone else has been racking up runs, do we think he'll play the first test?
-

selection is going to be very interesting in a couple of days. If you believe the newspapers Bayliss wants attacking batsmen at 3 and 4. Basically the Australian way.
Bit different playing on a flat deck on one of the Aussies pitches and Durham/Trent Bridge/Headingly...in May.
I would have Compton in as I reckon we still need a technically and mentally equipped player in the top order. I don't believe that's gone out of fashion
But the game has moved on and i'm a bit stuck in the mud oldie. :) :)
-

I think referring to Surrey as the Rey is precisely why everyone else, well me, wants them to get smashed.

What's behind the Rey nickname?

Sur-Rey, if you're 'well spoken enough' I presumed.

I wonder if they'd consider switching Compton and Hales round?
-
Compton's issue as an opener was that he wasn't scoring quickly enough. Can't see it ending well if he did...
-
I get the feeling Compton is a gonner. Justified or not, that just seems to be the way the wind is blowing.
-
I get the feeling Compton is a gonner. Justified or not, that just seems to be the way the wind is blowing.
I agree, there's something about him that just doesn't seem to fit in with the rest of the team for whatever reason. I don't know what it is but there must be something!
If Bayliss wants an Australian style (attacking) number 3 Compton is definitely not the man for the job and I'm not sold on Hales' suitability as a Test opener (hopefully will prove me wrong!) so that's why I was musing over the idea of Hales at 3, Robson is making a pretty strong case for himself to come back in as an opener but has he fixed his previous issues?
-
I get the feeling Compton is a gonner. Justified or not, that just seems to be the way the wind is blowing.
yep i've got that feeling too. I would have him in the side either opening or three. I think and hope Vince gets in in place of JT but Bayliss saying he wants aggressive batsmen might be a hint.
I find this a bit odd as in South Africa Compton did a job for us, we actually have a lot of stroke players in the side.....not everyone can attack in a five day test....
aside from his last test series how important was Jonathan Trott for us? Test cricket ain't changed that much in 24 months..... :)
-
The bit that confuses me about Hales is that he's been selected to do a similar role for us to what Warner does for Australia. But Warner didn't really change his approach much. He just wound it back a notch. Hales looks like he's also trying to adopt a new technique especially outside off stump early on. I'd like to see him given a long opportunity to take advantage of the new ball with Vince at 3. You can see Cook, Hales, Vince and Root as a solid top 4 for the next few years. With Bairstow, Stokes and Buttler behind them it could look vey exciting.
-

Struggling to see any comparision with Warner and Hales to be honest. Warner may be the bloke us English fans love to hate, but he is an exceptionally talented cricketer, not many of these guys about that can take apart top class bowling. Sehwag, Warner,Brendon Mac...these guys are few and far between. Hales is not in this class by a long way IMO....
-
Hales is a very good ODI batsman, who was on excellent ODI form a year or two ago but has dipped a little since! Hales hs currently gone down 30 places or so! Ok, he has proved himself to be a decent limited overs bat, but adapting to Test cricket is something that only few can manage!!
To be fair, Warner has managed that ODI-> Test transformation fantastically well - something I didn't think Warner would adapt to!! But he is proving himself in the Test arena and is still playing limited overs stuff to a superb level.
Will be interested to see if Hales is given the nod. With Root, Vince, Robson, Westley, Bairstow and others around the possible England squad seemingly hitting runs for fun at the moment, Compton is looking on poor form and Hales gets a start but still not hitting any form.
So I would be surely looking at the likes of Robson, Bell, Westley and Vince to compete for the 2, 3 and 5 batting positions!
-
Can someone please tell Jack Brooks that he looks a bit of a dick with that headband....................

Agree with you. Don't think that Hales is in Warner's all-round class yet although they do both try and keep it pretty simple. Selectors are hoping that he can deliver similar results in the future. Since Warner, McCullum, Dhawan etc. changed the approach to Test match batting England have been looking for our own equivalent. I think the biggest challenge is the wickets we grow up on. Don't think any of those guys would have developed the same way if they'd had to learn on green seamers.

Sanga praise jah
-
Joe Root is God!
-
Sitting here now watching Surrey falter. Eurgh.
-
One of the colts from our club made his 1st class debut today for Kent so that have us all a big sense of pride in west London.
A small club like ours no one has ever come thru as a Pro before so we are very proud of Imran.
Once you are contracted to a County they take any player from us and put them into a better club in our area, which is exactly what happened...but we are still very pleased.
-
Another depressing game vs Lancs so far and unable to remove their tail. Burns out for the rest of the game with a minor concussion as well, naturally the right thing to do.
Wonder who'll open now.
-
Woakes 9 wickets looks to be in vain as Warwick crumbled this morning.
Leics all out for 46!! Wickets falling all over the shop and the red rose county top of the championship as it stands!.
Top work from Tom Curran for nearly carrying his bat as a makeshift opener for Surrey.
-
Pray for @rickjames
-
Leicestershire doing well again I see

SURREY MIGHT WIN A GAME OF RED BALL CRICKET KLAXON
-
Ben Duckett future england keeper?
glove work has always been good from what ive seen and he is only 20-21?
Looks a good prospect.
-
Keaton Jennings on the way to a double ton! Leading scorer so far this season. Of course as a Durham fan it's no change, it's always our boys topping the charts! Borthwick had two poor knocks!
-
Looks a good prospect.
He's having a great season with the bat, but would guess he has to take the gloves for Northants if he has aspirations of keeping for England.
-

His fourth championship ton of the season. A double would be good publicity for him. Good stats - is he qualified to play for England?
David
-
Wayne madsen hit his 4th Ton of the year this week, wants to play for England.. Can't help but think a move away from Derby will have to happen if he's going to stand a chance, scoring plenty though could be a shout to bat at 3?

Yes as far as im aware he qualified sometime this year to play for England.

Chris Tavare and Boycott will have loved Hameed's innings for Lancs earlier...
-
Yes as far as im aware he qualified sometime this year to play for England.
He qualified the week before the start of the season if memory serves me correct!

Serious declaration batting that...
-
Maiden century on debut for Aaron Finch. Yesssssssssssssssssss.
-
S-U-R-R-E-Y
-
So Yorkshire bottled that!
180 needed off 20overs with ten wickets in hand. And shake hands for a draw.
Why not atleast have a go? Shut up shop after five if a few wickets fall. Very disappointed.
-
COME ON THE REY! Not surprised this run of form has happened the moment Sam Curran's finished school and walked in. What a player.
-
His fourth championship ton of the season. A double would be good publicity for him. Good stats - is he qualified to play for England?
David
Yes as far as im aware he qualified sometime this year to play for England.
Fairly sure his debut season with Durham in 2012 was the first time he lived here regularly meaning he won't qualify until 2019?

Assuming your on about Jennings, he qualified as soon as a week before the season started.

You sure, wouldn't have thought South Africa would have picked someone who was spending the majority of the year living in England as their u19 captain. Odd if he is.

haseeb must be in line for a go with england in the near future?

haseeb must be in line for a go with england in the near future?
Yes a few of us mentioning him in the end v Pakistan thread as a possible opener.twin tons against the champions is some achievement. Don't think he has played lions cricket yet but all England age groups up to 19's.
The lad has serious talent and so so good to see someone coming thru the system without a prevelidged education.
A bit radical but if I was a selector I would take him to India and dump hales. Or maybe as a reserve opener. But I don't think k that will happen.
It's been a long time since England threw in a youngster and backed potential.so long I can't remember who.
Probably Ian bell or joe root have been the youngest in recent times.
-
The last time we sent an opener under 20 to debut in India it turned out alright.

Just double checked the regulations and I'm fairly sure they haven't got that right as you can't serve your qualification period whilst playing u19 cricket for another country so he'd have to live here for 7 years after that. The way in which Jennings talks in the interview seems to suggest he thinks he's qualified though. Odd.

I mean there's no way that's a catch, I wouldn't expect anything less from Giles/Croft they're gonna back their player but there's no way in a thousand Sunday's that that's a clean catch
-
Said it before and will say it again; Sam Curran is a seriously excellent talent with both bat and ball. Gutted he didn't get his maiden ton this morning but for 18 years old he's a very smart player.
-
Collingwood has the WK gloves on against Yorkshire due to an injury!
-
Bell showing his mastery of spin with a comedy charge and caught and bowled first ball to a debutante!
The game at Taunton is bonkers.
Excellent 100 for Rory "the crouch" burns at the oval today.
-
95ao plays 120-9
I think it's a batsman's pitch
-
Thought 2016 would've been Sam Hain's year after his outstanding first class form last year, but he's been very disappointing this season in red ball cricket
-
Yorkshireman Jake Lehmann looks a decent player
-
Yorkshireman Jake Lehmann looks a decent player
Isn't he Aussie overseas replacement for Head?
-
Think its darren lehman's son on a short term deal
Jake ball done yorks a good service today-hat trick in the first over
You dont get many of them to the pound!
-
Done Robson's England hopes a world of good too
-
Just really hope that Yorkshire v Middlesex in the final week isn't a boring draw / rainout.
-
Duckett of Northants close to a double ton.
He can certainly bat this lad. Must be a Lions tour in the winter on the cards(presuming there is one)
-

He's already scored a double ton for the Lions! The test side is the next stop for young Duckett...
-
Id rather see the selectors giving Duckett a gig over putting Bell on the plane again, surely in this type of form we have to be blooding the next crop of talent not stepping backwards.
200 off 240 balls....26x4's
-

ah yes in the one dayer....
Thorpe who you would say knows a decent batsmen when he sees one says Duckett and DBD of Kent are 'certain' to play Test cricket at some point.

Sounds like Borthwick is ever so closer to his move to sunny SE11, get in.
http://www.durhamccc.co.uk/news/borthwick-to-leave-durham-/ (http://www.durhamccc.co.uk/news/borthwick-to-leave-durham-/)
Talk is of Steve Davies going to Somerset and Gary Wilson to Leicestershire. Will be a shame to lose Davies in particular, plus we're losing two keepers. Still have plenty of other glovemen behind Foakes though.

Worrying times for Durham. We've lost Borthwick and Stoneman, released experienced batsmen in all formats in Muchall and Mustard. Jamie Harrison once thought of by England released and releasing the top wicket taker for the championship winning 2nd team. Callum Mcleod too but he's nothing great! Promising all rounder Paul Coughlin yet to sign a deal too! I might get a game next season at this rate.

yes...on the plus side Stokes has signed a new deal and Wood hopefully(for durham fans) will sign a new deal.... Yes they are England contracted but you don't want your England players leaving....
bit surprised Borthwick is going. I guess Durham only have so much money to go round at the moment, like a lot of Counties

If Wood doesn't get a contract then chances are he will leave too, we need him to get an England deal to keep him. Jennings and Colly have both signed on, but Collingwood will have to retire soon, he can't go on forever, I think he's only signed because he has to for the club as oppose to he wants to.
-
TBH it's bad for Durham but it's a good move for Scott Borthwick. Spinners don't really get much of a gig up at Chester le street. At the Oval he'll have a seasoned warrior in Gareth Batty to help him. The Oval offers more bounce and turn. It will help Borthwick's development and his bowling should benefit.
-
Lovely Roy and Ansari...
-
Good to see the mighty Essex coughing and spluttering their way up to Div 1!
Decent prospects next year I reckon, with Cookie being available most of the early season and the (re)signings of Wheater & Chopra
Just need another pace bowler (Amir has been heavily touted for this) and maybe a spinner (was hoping we'd sign Dockrell when Somerset got shot of him, but to no avail).
Also, I reckon next year will be Foster's last and he'll step down from one of the formats to allow Wheater to keep. No point him leaving Hants if he's going to move and still not keep wicket...
-
Watch out for Paul Walter 'Yeti' coming through next season, played against him a lot over the last couple of years in the Essex league and he is a handful at 6ft 8 left arm around mid 80's. Still only 21and will get quicker. A good middle orderish bat as well and a good bloke.
-
Craig Miles has had another good season for Gloucestershire. Coming to terms with the fact he probably needs to leave to get better. Quality all round player.
-
Sam Curran > you

James Hildreth will be releasing a new coaching DVD this winter which borrows extensively from the Trescothick school of batting - 'Footwork? Don't bother.' Hell of an effort, off for x-rays on his injured ankle tomorrow apparently.
https://twitter.com/SomersetCCC/status/778291575470383105
-
Without wishing to wind up the cidermen followers on here hildreth has been very unlucky not to get capped in a test.he's close to Hick like for Somerset.good ton too from Rogers when it counted.
Another ton for Gubbins of Middlesex too today.
The most exciting championship run in....for ages!!
-
Sitting here at Lords watching a procession - Lees, Ballance and Gale all blobs. Bresnan coming in at 5 :o
Good bowling by TRJ but awful batting.
-
How Ballance gets anywhere near the test side is beyond me, I'd fancy a bowl at him with a decent slip cordon. At the other end of the scale, Lyth looks in great touch, neat footwork and superb timing.
-
wouldn't be surprised if Gale resigns at end of the season win or lose here.
-
Agree, you can't afford to carry a 'club captain' who never gets a run in first class cricket. It's bad enough at Saturday league level! There's no doubt that if he wasn't skipper, he wouldn't be getting a look in.
-

really like Lyth, hope he gets further honours down the line. He's got class, just needed a bit extra a test level to tighten up.
yorks sound as if this is slipping away from them
-
Gale probably would still make the side - with Root and Bairstow basically forbidden from playing for us by the disgraceful Strauss and Lehmann back in Oz, we be more or less out of options.
-

Root needs looking after, he's England's best player and England comes first. Bairstow...yes common sense should of prevailed and cancelled his planned rest time to play in a game he really wanted to play in.He don't need a rest.
ECB gave Yorkshire 700 grand which put them in the black for the first time in many years
I suspect the bigwigs at Yorkshire didn't feel able to complain too much about the situation
-
700grand for producing half the countries team, isnt a bad price
-
Well... on the positive side if your a white rose supporter Tim Bresnan, my player of the year for Yorkshire
he's doing it again today digging them out of the mire.
He has been superb this year. Underrated cricketer if ever there was one.
-
No contest, without his allround contributions they wouldn't be in with a sniff going into the last round.
-
Somerset's title unless Yorkshire can somehow muster 350.

Umm.unless ive got my sums wrong it's Middlesex's title if we beat Yorkshire regardless of Somerset's match.
The title could be going back to the 'right' side of London.
Bit embarrassing if that's wrong thou. :)

You're right. My gut instinct tells me, even against this depleted Yorkshire side, Middlesex could have done with 100 or so more. Draw still most likely outcome at this moment in time.
-

Assuming Somerset win, a draw does neither team any favours. Even if Yorkshire miss 350, they would still benefit financially from finishing ahead of Middlesex with a win so I imagine they will try to chase anything
-
It's also getting interesting at the bottom of Div 1 - will Hants beat Durham and pull off another Houdini trick like last season?
-
Nice bit of rain at Lords...keep raining for another day and a half and Somerset will bag and the championship!
-
Yorkshire Yorkshire Yorkshire!
Brendan's ton has got us passed 350 and full bonus points! Now for the win boys.
-
we will see a result between the yorkies and middlesex. no benefit to either side in playing for the draw
Somersets odds will be lengthening hour by hour

big bres..I said it once I will say it again. if the Yorkies pull this off he should have life long free Tetleys

I blame Robsons pair on the fact he was wearing one Omega gloves and on the other hand a Powerbow one! Villaaaaaaage

indeed...sampled some at the Oval Test matches, no money changed hands just walked into the kiosk, got my tea and walked out happy...a nice touch.
As a confirmed Londoner and therefore willing on Middlesex, got to say if Yorkshire do pull this off and take the title it will be well deserved.....
and more than one forum member I suspect would be saying 'up yours' to Mr A Strauss :)
as a 16 year old at my club I was forced to learn the words and sing(yes really) after every match on ilkley moor bar tat.We had a bloke from Batley.....
hahaha :)
-
Ah come on Middlesex pull your fingers out...
Middlesex are digging in Felix my old china. Get the cider on ice sunshine you are currently top of the table.
if it stays like this group CBF outing to Somerset. Apparently there's 100 different types of cider :)
-
Only 100? Not worth the trip...
-
Whoever wins how often do you go to work tracking the county scores?
Best season certainly i can remember
Cricket is the winner....
Yorks and middx have got to go for a win...gut says somerset thou
Fairytale ending for rogers
We shall see :-)
-
Middx to set Yorks 180 off the last 20.
Big Tim to get 179 of them.

Being the year of the underdog, Somerset have this in the bag ;)

Middlesex teeing off now looking to declare.
What's odds on Willey opening and going t20 style at the total? Gillespie said yesterday he'd rather come third looking to win than not try.

yep...could be a bit lively. Bresnan I think said yeah 250 in 20 overs they are going for it....
I wonder if Yorkshire may rue not having Plunkett in the side just for this...
-
hold your horses @Felix Tito.....
2016 season ain't over yet bruv.....
-
Fair play to Franklin for making a reasonably aggressive declaration.
-
240 off 40..... Game on
-
Yorkshire have been set 240 off 40 overs.
-
240....
ERM...........THIS IS GAME ON
:)
'have a look at the first one and get on with it'
-
240 off 40?
That's sneaky! Right in that grey area between bat steady and get em, and bat quickly and lose a few wickets.
First 10 is where the game is won or lost here. Game on.
-
Generous declaration that!
-
Was wondering if they would chuck Willey into open and bat in one day mode
-
I've got my fingers crossed that Lyth bats well in this innings and gives the England selectors a nudge.
-

it's a real gamble that declaration, Willey in at 3.
but skippers prepared to gamble to win should be applauded. it takes kahunas
-
It'll still take some chasing with no fielding restrictions. Only big variable is how Middlesex choose to go if Yorkshire look like chasing it, as there's no real incentive for them to draw rather than lose other than pride and 2nd place.
-
Wonder how things could have panned out if Somerset lost the toss and were put in to bowl.
-
somerset boys tweeting about the declaration
yes Middx have taken a big gamble but they have to try to win and therefore risk losing
cant see any problem

yorks 2 down.
if bresnan ends up hitting the runs in this match he will be up there with dickie bird and micheal Parkinson as famous sons

absolutely right.
there's been some 'sporty' wickets at Somerset this year.No one's complaining.
just play the game whatever comes
-

Ha, we get tagged with flat track/batter's paradise regarding the deck for years but play on some wickets that offer a bit to the bowler and they're 'sporty'. You're damned if you do and damned if you don't ;)
To be fair to us down in the South West, the results that have come about in 2/3 days haven't been necessarily down to the tracks being right turners. Some of the shot selection has been appalling from opposing players and Leach, Bess and Van Der Merwe have bowled exceptionally well to create the pressure that brings wickets.
-
County cricket > everything
-
Well, well, well!
First chance I've had to check what's happening all day and it's going down to the wire!
Yorkshire 3 down, needing to go at 7.5 an over.
Middlesex with their tails up are scenting blood in the water.
While all that's happening the Somerset boys will have the cider on ice and be keeping everything crossed for a draw.
One game going on with three potential champions, who said championship cricket was boring? :D

youre not damned both ways :) flat tracks win nothing unless you have a magic spinner or quick that can blow everyone away. waqar younis and saqlian for surrey, Donald Warwickshire etc etc.Every County is trying to win the title.
ive replaced 'sporting' with 'unusual looking' wickets at Taunton this year. Youre in with a chance of winning the Championship for the first time since I can remember.
:)

if Bresnan takes his shirt off has he got a vest that has a big S on it

Tim 'eff it I'll do it myself' Bresnan

This game's got draw written all over it...
-
Is there radio coverage of it anywhere?

Middlesex played not to lose sadly, this was never genuinely chasable. Shame, poor end to it all.

It'd be over if you and your chums were playing.
"Oh my they expect us to score some runs, better dig in and go for the draw to show them what's what. Title means nothing to us"
-
Should have known you'd have something cheerful to add ;)
Ok let's lie.. All teams still in it, what a finish.. No idea who will win.. Could be anyone's.
Jesus, lie to yourself if you want but Middlesex bottled it and batted the game to a draw.
Oh yeah, I forgot.. Anyone who doesn't jump on the bandwagon is ostracised. My mistake
-
I thought it was a decent declaration, 6 an over. I can't imagine the track is an unplayable Bunsen.
-
Looks 'game on' to me
-
87 off 10
come on Pro join in
:)
-
Getting nervous now...80 off 10 but only 4 wickets left
-
@ProCricketer1982 I bet you're fun at parties...
-
Fairytale if Hodd and Rafiq, the two who would've missed out for Bairstow and Rashid, somehow see Yorkshire over the line.
Not looking likely, mind you.
-
Finn's bowling is really poor these days...
-
12 off the over, still time yet!
-
hindsight is great but liam plunkett can give it some humpty
-
Well that's just showboating...! Well done to the middle saxons
-
Mental finish - what happened to that draw @ProCricketer1982?
-
All over sidebottom bowled round the legs!
Well done Middlesex on the title!
Happy Yorkers went for the game and didn't bloke out and both bore the public as well as disappointing there fans
if you ain't first your last!
And to our resident pro, great great cricket prediction, up there with when you said England would be all out soon and stokes and bairstow puts hundreds on. Hope this has the same result.
-

If they'd just blocked out on principal, because 6 an over was too many, Somerset would be Champions.
Personally I'd have sent the Yorkshire U15 side, because I've heard Middlesex sledge a bit ;)

-
Congratulations Strauss on winning the title without even playing #totallystitched
-
Hate to play devil's advocate but didn't the Middlesex coach mention that if Middlesex declared Yorkshire would continue to go for it regardless. Surely that's a form of fixing isn't it?
-
Imagine if Yorkshire had had Bairstow to help with that chase though...
-
Now now, Young Jonny was tired and needed to rest (oddly, I saw him before the game - he'd been doing keeping drills for an hour and netted for another two)
It is what it is - I was disappointed that Middlesex manipulated the situation through very negative cricket (13 runs in 11 overs after lunch) to the point that Yorkshire had to agree a tough chase AND agree to keep hitting to the last, even though there were seven men on the ropes. Sure, it was reasonable to have a pop but the last few overs when there was clearly no chance were horribly unfair to Somerset.
-
Ah Yorkshire, so hard done by.
Gale could have said no to the declaration. Perfectly reasonable for Middlesex to say bowl us out.
They could have beaten Somerset at home.
Yorkshire hardly went for the jugular either. Five players out on the boundaries after lunch.
They manufactured a result because neither team really tried to win it from the outset.
-
well done Middlesex, delighted that Somerset didn't win. The attitude of some of their players and ex players was shocking to say the least.
Set a very getable target for Yorkshire and rolled them, undefeated all year having lead for most of the way, cant say they don't deserve it (as much as that pains me as a Surrey fan)
-
Brilliant result yesterday for Middlesex but even as a Middelesex fan I felt some sympathy for Somerset. I was glad I rush home from work to watch the end of the match and saw the hat trick. I did see some clips of the Lees and Lyth bowling which was pretty horrifying to say the least!
-
Well....my team won, sympathy for Somerset for sure and Yorkshire went for it all the way. At the end of the day you could argue about a contrived finish, you could argue there's been some interesting pitches prepared, depending on who you support sometimes our views are a bit coloured.
What I would like to post here is what a great thread in good spirits by all on here and it's great to see.
How often do games go right to the last match ? County cricket is not dead despite having some negative press in recent years.
Cricket was the winner at the end and whoever you support it was entertaining for the fans and that is the whole idea, we need people interested in the game.
Well done Somerset , well done Yorkies and top effort from those on here who contributed in great spirits, it makes the forum a really good place sometimes.
Roll on 2017 season :)
-
Shame that it took a manufactured result to eventually kill the dream but Middlesex where unbeaten champions so kudos. Yorkshire went down as champions should trying till the end. Cider men will be back...after a good few months of downing some cider!
-

It was the worst nine overs of cricket I've ever seen. Though it was hilarious when Malan, previously rendered absolutely strokeless, licked his lips at the chance to cash in and boost his average...then mullered one straight to Jack Brooks, who took a superb one handed reflex catch.
