i am mega exicted that my favorite player is back! simon katich is injured thank god and hughsy is back! sooooo exited! whats your thoughts? cheers
-
lets be honest , if aemer was fit , he would be all over hughes all day long , but he isn't so it'l be interesting to see..
-
Start delayed!! Ponting is doing an interview in his funny cap and blazer!
-
PHIL HUGHES FOR A DOUBLE TON!
-
im gutted aamir can't play, was great to watch in the last test... i do like the way hughes bats though, real unorthadox...
-
yer i totally agree amir is soo good too watch! so natural its unreal! phil hughes cutting is better thought! as you can i see i love him! ahahaha
-
Is Amir that young bowler?
-
yer 19 and in the high 80's! hes gonna be a guddun!
-
You're right - he is looking like an excellent prospect!
And the 17 year old batsman looks pretty damn useful too! I think he's the wicket keepers younger brother!
But he's looking set for a good future!
-
Its still raining in Sydney!!!
It's nice to know that we are not unique in England with rain causing delays!
They're talking about Steve Waugh on Sky sports at the moment.
-
christian your filling in for the forums biggest phil hughes fan while aidy is away hahaha
-
LOL!
I wander if Aidy has been banned from the Sydney ground for stalking Phil Hughes??? ;D
-
hosk pal get the speeling sorted! WONDER* and yer i am taking over the reign on aidy as phil hughes biggest fan!
-
Ameer the bowler is 17 yrs old, the keepers brother Umar Akmal the new batsman is 19..
Stupid rain needs to stop so the match can began already..
-
dropped on the first ball.. better take this chance and score a ton..
-
forget that ton...
-
Or pontings.....
-
way to aggressive need to calm down.. its a test
-

What's speeling Christian? : D
I think you over hyped his return, gone for a duck and Australia all out for 127.
-
purchase + hughes = unhealthy obsession!
-
Tommy - I think that Christian was being humourous about the fact that I used wander instead of wonder in my sentence!
And then he was being ironic when he said speeling (as apposed to spelling) ;D
-
Sorry, if that was the case then I missed the irony. Apologies.
-
No worries - I almost missed it too and it was meant for me! :)
-
whats the deal with hughes? why do we like him so much... its not like hes even a test match regular
-
LOL 15 ball duck for Hughes
-
I think its the flambouyant style of his batting!!
He plays shots that test players don't usually play and therefore he's quite exciting to watch.
Thats the only thing I can think of!
I do like watching him, but I prefer watching Sehwag or KP when they're on form personally.
-
He's an exceptional talent and always great to watch in part due to his unorthodoxy and his aggressive batting. Also he averages (52.44) higher than any current England batsmen (besides Trott) despite having been dropped and he's only 21.
The stats are correct before the aforementioned duck.
-
yeah he did well against the yarpies but very quiet since
-
He got a duck on his debut but came back from it! Hopefully this time he'll do the same.
-
I'm all for players playing to their strengths and if that means being unorthodox than fine. But Hughes' technique isn't up to scratch for facing high quality fast bowling.
Players like Sehwag and Pietersen are fairly unorthodox but at least they go back and across. A Test match opener shouldn't be running away to leg, to smear the ball thru the off side.
Hughes was very lucky to get into the side, his domestic First Class form hasn't been anything to write home about. He's scored 1 hundred since being dropped during the Ashes. The hundred scored was done so against a very weak Victoria attack, missing Nannes, Harwood, McKay, Pattinson.
Don't get me wrong I like watching Hughes play, he was a joy to watch during the Champions League T20, but he needs to iron out the issues with his technique.
-
I personally think Warner is a much better opening option..

I would pay money to see Warner's Test debut!! If he got in, he would cause carnage
-
I'd like to know why Rogers doesn't get a look in, I'm sure his face doesn't fit. He's coming off the back of two top seasons in England and carried his form on in Aus, interesting one..

What about Philip Jaques? The guy scored a hundred in the last Test he played, then got injured and hasn't got a look in since.
-
Correct, but I don't think he's scored the same volume of runs as Rogers since being away from the side however I think both are a better bet than Hughes. I think he is a talent however he has soon been found out and natural flair can only get you so far.
-
Jacques is a class act and scored mountains of runs last time he played.
As is Rogers. Dont rate Hughes at all really, i think theres batsmen out there (like the above) who deserve a place far more.
-
i think hughes must be picked ahead of these guys as they probably see them as 'on their way out'. whereas they want hughes to play as many tests as possible and learn his game along with the other guys, siddle, hifenhaus, watson, north etc... thats the only thing i can think of as i would have had jacques!
-
As much as I like Hughes he is looking increasingly more like a player for the future. In a few years time I can see him as one the best batsman in Aus but not at the moment. Jacques did a great job last time but seems to have been forgotten about since his injury.
-
Hughes just needs time In international cricket to develop and become the worlds best opener if not batsman, the same must be said for the young Pakistani players, kemar roach and the Many young talented Indian cricketers.
-
The worlds best opener? He's been found out after a handful of tests, just playing more won't improve him he needs to go away learn his game and make some technical adjustments before even being considered again in my opinion. Guys like Rogers know there game inside out and consistently score runs so should be given the gig ahead of Hughes. And with the whole too old thing, surely it should be horses for courses, not building for the future.
-
Ponting really only inherited the team from Steve Waugh when he became captain and is now actually building his own, so Hughes seems a good option when you think of the future.
-
I never said Hughes is the best opener in the world, I said he could be. Let's face it, he has the potential to consistently score big runs at the top level. He shouldn't change his technique much if he is consistently scoring runs in fc cricket, however if he has found weaknesses than adjustments should be made!
-
He does seem to have been found out a bit at test level and I think he needs to make changes to his technique so he can come back better than before.

do you know how he got out this morning? Haven't seen it!
-
He had a drive at a full delivery outside off stump and edged to 2nd slip.

that's his area, that and the short ball!
-
Boys, I was there on Day 1- pouring rain all morning, just like home. The beer is 3 percent too, and only served in schooner size (like half pints), and cost £3 per cup. RUBBISH.
On the plus side I sat amongst 20 pirates who were great fun!!!
Nice venue too, big ground.
-
Hopefully Hughes can get a few in the 2nd innings but even then when Katich returns I doubt he'll keep his place.
-
Just about to leave for the test today, and the weather looks great for once. Could you believe my disappointment on day 1- I went expecting sun, beer, Hughes and Ponting to make millions and actually got rain, half pints on low alcohol beer, and 10 balls between the two players!
Looks set for a big day today, hopefully Hughes and Punter can get stuck in. The press out here are HYPER critical of all the team here, it really is strange!
-
are you out in aus playing, leeroy? if you are could i ask you a bit about it on PM as im really considering going over next winter, cheers
-
Not a fan.
-
was just on aidys facebook and looks like he is going to the test tomorrow so he will be loveing seeing phil hughes.
wouldnt put it past him dressing like him with his kit on ;)
-
Young phil is just about to bat on a pair! Fingers crossed!
-
He's on 8 from 34 deliveries. But seems eager to start racking the runs up!
So two very attacking batsmen obviously on strict instructions to take it slowly! How long before they start playing more attacking shots???
-
not long i bet you! but i want phil to score some runs!!
-
Shane is looking patient, but in great form!
His drives are immaculate!
-
missed another century.. it must be annoying now..
-
Watson does seem to have a habit of getting out in the 90's.
-
Nice to see Hughes making use of the oppurtunities given to him to open the batting for australia ;D
He looks so out of touch and shouldnt really be playing!
-
He never really looked in touch though did he! He's so far from textbook, its difficult to tell wether hes in nick or not!
-
back from the test yesterday, turgid day, Oz were on top but collapsed. hughes/ ponting really scratchy. Watson is just about the most hated man in Oz- most of the crowd were chuffed when he was out, which was odd.
also put $75 on australia to win at lunch at 80 odd for 0, which probably explains the collapse!
-

why is that? is it the pseudo-macho following through and preposterous sledging after yet another dobbing medium pacer?
-
Ouch hard lines leeroy_acko.

hosk pal get the speeling sorted! WONDER* and yer i am taking over the reign on aidy as phil hughes biggest fan!

Don't give up on winning that bet just yet!

There are VERY different standards of first grade, depending what competition your in. Bit like in england. Theres first team village and theres first team premier league
-
You won the bet! Well done mate.
-
Wow, you've won your bet!
-
Boys, I WON THE BET!!!!
Ha ha! cant believe that. the reaction over here is unreal. All week that team got so much stick from the press, especially Ponting for batting first. I have never seen media so critical of their own team... and now they are all heroes and no one ever doubted it! I thought our press/ crowd was critical, but this is something else.
What a game!!!
-
ponting still should have batted first
-
how much is 70 AUD in pounds, and how much did you win?
-
I won about $200- you dont get your stake back which I was a bit disappointed with!
I got odds of $4 (4-1) at start of day 4 when Pak were 9 down in the first innings. It was boiling hot and I thought after the first innings Aus would really dig in, especially given the press criticism, so I put all the loose money in my wallet on (around $15).
At lunch Aus were 80-0, so I went to the ATM and got more out, but could then only get something like $2.60 (2.6-1).
By the end of day 3 with Aus 80 ahead for 8, I had given up and left for the pub a bit down in the dumps. They were cruising, but collapsed in the last session.
Good couple of days at the test though. the SCG is a nice ground, a bit "concrete" if you like, and the security peed me off (you cant walk around the ground once inside, you cant leave the ground once inside, the beer is low/ medium strength, you even have to take sunnies off to order drinks, the beer is $6/ £3 per half pint- plenty of grumbles!). I guess a different culture basically but a good couple of days regardless!
-
Ha yeh mate i went to the game aswell, the security are rediculous i went for all 4 days at the SCG great ground, security chuck people out for mexican waves and generally stop a lot of fun, fans are a bit racist over here and get away with it saying stupid Paki which is wrong etc, but my god did umar gul and danish kaneria take some stick near the fine leg boundary one end and long on ish the other end, umar handled it well but danish was getting angry and a few people chucked out lol, people where saying when umar was signing small bats stop defacing those bats etc and calling him crap for not being able to get a tailender out so funny all round.
Shane Watson Funnily enough got a lot of abuse because he moved from queensland to NSW and when he came to the fine leg boundary people where shouting (No Swearing Please) Still a Queenslander in my Eyes, Your Daddy Molested u, Cane Toad Lover & Stupid Banana Eater so that was hilarious.
Me My Mate Both From Uk Got Abuse When the Aussies We Where with started pointing at us and saying pom and my god did the crowd abuse us but all in good spirit some of the chants "rather be a paki than a pom" You Sent us to a tropical paradise" "rStand up if u hate the poms" so it was a great day apart from being chucked out by security on end of the 3rd day for making a beer snake lol.
and yeh leeroy the beer is rediculous $6 for a scuna (half pint) and it was VB which is the worst beer out here hate it, and the food is rediculous for price aswell.
the best bit was on day 3 me and the mates was on local tv on channel 8 for wearing pink zinc pink hats and pink bandana so it was quality and on say one we got their early to watch players net and we got on the big screen and the guy spoke to us on the microphone.
nearly snatched myself a BN £160 kook ball by the net area as asif bowled in the nets to salman butt and he creamed one near the gate so i put my hand through the gate and pused a sighscreen so the ball rolled down som i put it in my pocket and the pakistani coach didnt care so i started walking off and the police stopped me and gave me a warning and made me chuck it back, but all in all defo recommenrd people to go to the SCG great stadium great atmospehere
-
I was at the first day and the NSW fans are dicks the boo Watson, This does not happen at Adelaide oval.
-
I imagine Watson is one of the least popular guys in the team despite how well he went this year, i bet the abuse he copped at the gabba was far worse then what the Cookkies gave him at the SCG.
-
