Title: Toe Guard
Post by: InternalTraining on April 18, 2016, 10:04:22 PM
Anyone know where I can get a decent toe guard for shoes? Has @StrettonFox Sports invented/completed its toe guard design?

George isn;t releasing his products for this year as he is in negotiations about it all for next season.

As with many others on the forum, I was interested in the stretton toe guard, but if it's not coming til next year I thought I'd develop my own.

I've got access to a 3D printer at work so made a quick prototype. This was made in PLA as a reference piece but I can print in flexible polyurethane.

Is this the kind of coverage that would be needed? There's some work to do on the shape and finish, but if theres any interest I may be able to make a few samples.

@geeders , this is great. Well done!

Questions:

1. How would you use it? Outside? Inside the shoe? How would you hold it in place?

2. I was hit on the left big toe's nail, i.e. area between the right most tip of the guard and your index finer (in the picture). Would it be possible to extend it to those areas. I'd rather the guard has fuller coverage than not.

I am not concerned about finish at all as long as it does the job. :)

Looks bang on @geeders - although I agree with @InternalTraining that it could do with covering both sides of the foot (especially for me personally, love to get a good stride in so it leaves my foot somewhat exposed at times!).

Would happily pay to take a flexible polyurethane version off you!

Was thinking along the same lines, the big toe is the one that usually bares the brunt of any contact for me so could argue the guard should be on the other side, covering more of the longer toes. Seems a great first draft though and I guess it would be fairly easy to personalise ie match colours to boots.

Thanks for the feedback.

I'll tweak the design over the weekend - currently decorating the house so a bit tied up with that.

In response to the questions, the intention was for it to fit on the outside of the shoe - and be bonded to it.
Thinking about it, it may be possible to have it removable/detachable using Velcro but I'll have to trial it I guess.

I've had a couple of pm's about samples. I have limited access to the printer at the moment but I could make say samples for 5 people in the next couple of weeks to those interested - just cover postage I guess

I'm not sure how to handle this - can a mod advise if this would be considered selling via pm?? Should I set a sale post up??

@geeders , I would be interested in a sample.
