I think I am the last one to get B3 50% off Grade 1 cricket bat. From the look of it, with only 5-6 grains and few knots in the back, I don't think it is a grade 1 bat. I would say it is grade 2 OR grade 3. Even though B3 gave 50% off on their bats but I think they should stand behind the quality of their bats, which is when they say, it is grade 1, it has to be grade 1. Do you think it is grade 1?

Maybe it's worth letting B3 knowing before posting on the forum!
And no that's not G1 for me
-
Not defending them or promoting them but what is the current j s Wright description of grade 1? A few of probably have a ideal view which has changed recently maybe?
We sre told grade is no indication of performance so make judge it on performance ?
-
Not G1 in my book
Was delighted with my 3 stripe from B3
-
Not a g1. Did you raise this with b3 guys?

You'll catch more flies with honey than vinegar...

Quoted from JS Wrights: "There may be some red wood evident on the edge of the blade. The grain on the face will be straight and there will be a minimum of 6 grains visible. There may be the odd small knot or speck in the edge or back but the playing area should be clean."
Going by those guidelines it's arguably G1 but only borderline - 6 grains, bit of redwood on inside edge. The blemish on the face would be my query.

and from the B3 website: "3 Stripes...Each cleft will have between 6 and 20 straight grains and only minor blemishes outside of the main playing area."
does seem to fit the description tbh...but best to check with them.

This is direct from B3 website, this has also been discussed in much detail before on here.
GRADING/PRICING
Here at B3 Cricket we only make our bats out of the very finest English willow.
Because we don’t “mass manufacture” we are able to invest the time to understand the needs of each and every customer to help them select their ideal piece of willow to suit their style of play and budget.
Upon arrival at our Nottingham factory we weigh and check the density of each cleft (uncut piece of willow). We then use our expertise to grade each cleft into a One, Two or Three stripe.
Please remember that we are always happy to discuss the grain structure, heart (redwood) / lightwood preference, shape and balance with you to help you get your perfect B3 bat.
Below we explain what you can expect from a One, Two or Three stripe bat:
3 Stripes
This is the finest Grade 1 English willow that money can buy. Each cleft will have between 6 and 20 straight grains and only minor blemishes outside of the main playing area.
The weight, balance and density will be conducive to providing a bat that picks up lighter than it looks.
2 Stripes
High quality English willow with between 5 and 12 grains and may contain some light butterfly stain and there may also be pin knots but this will not affect the performance of your bat.
1 Stripe
Our 1 Stripe represents outstanding value for money as our entry level grade. The grain may not be straight in every case and will usually contain some pin knots which are all completely natural and only affect the bats appearance.
-
Definately not a looker of a bat, maybe a close video of ping test ? That might be a grade 1 can be downgraded by many batmakers to G2 but still a good question imo.
-
I would be mighty disappointed if I got that as stripe 3 with or with out 50% off. @rajesh500 can you tell us about the design of the bat :)
-
This is pushing the definition of g1 a bit too far ... Compare the looks of it to other 1 stripes.
-
@rajesh500 - Which stripe did you order ? I don't see that explicitly stated in your post.

B3 have a very very open returns policy and are outstanding with their customer care.
You are clearly unhappy with your bat, so your concerns should be discussed privately with them.
Having a moan in a public place shows now respect to the guys who work for b3.
Plus you have already got this at a massive discount.

I agree that the matter should be discussed in private with B3 first to try and come to a satisfactory outcome. However, I believe that whether this bat was bought at a discount or not is irrelevant! Grade 1 should be grade 1.
-
Yes, I find it absolutely absurd when people say that because you have it at big discount , you should keep mum . we have to understand that many people bought g1 because a normal g1 would not have been remotely.possible to buy and this voucher provided that . would you sell a car without tyres if it is sold in garage sale ? Thing is trust should be respected no matter what price you are selling a product at. Things could have been sorted out a million ways but we can definitely opine on a certain product .

Couldn't agree more. Whether or not it should be considered a grade one it shouldn't be discussed on an open forum before the matter has been bought to light with the maker. In my opinion it is very poor form. If you have an issue you should at least give the maker/seller a right of reply.

agreed, may be he should just delete this post till he contacts B3.

We have responded to this via email, but asked admin to unlock so that I could post.
As discussed on a previous thread, there is always going to be line where just on one side it is a higher grade and on the other it is a lower grade, and whilst these lines may shift from suppliers, B3's grading characteristics will remain the same for the foreseable future.
However, I am human and we do make mistakes but most importantly of all we will deal with these (offline). I dont want to re - open the debate on this but just wanted to say that we are dealing with this issue and will resolve it.
Have a good weekend and first match of the season.
