Title: Dale Steyn off to Wales
Post by: justnotcricket86 on May 19, 2016, 03:02:02 PM
He's only gone and signed for Glamorgan for the T20 Blast. That's great news , if you're a Welshman

Interesting move. In now way putting a downer on this great news for Glamorgan fans but is he less in SA plans now or is it just a case of getting match fit?. Didn't star in the IPL much did he?

So "rested" from the tri series yet he's playing t20. Maybe he's got the hint his limited over career is over for SA

Could be the same way Jimmy is going. They are a similar age I believe so taking the longevity route as far as their Test careers go

I read an interesting article regarding quotas earlier this week. Article suggested the likes of AB, Faf and Steyn could quit South Africa if their government forced the inclusion of more coloured Players into the national side.

SA is becoming a joke. It wouldn't surprise me if they all quit and tbh, it might be needed to drill home you simply can't have politics in sport

I don't think that article was groundbreaking - both de Villiers and du Plessis have openly said as much in the past year.  Its also one of the reasons why exceptionally good South African rugby players are migrating to France, England and Ireland in such numbers.

You can see the point - for international sport, selection has to be merit based.  Its fine if you're "transformation" players are Tahir, Amla, Philander and Rabada - all test class.  Its something rather different if you're having to pick, say, Phangiso over Harmer purely to meet a criteria.  Its worse for the Springboks rugby side - they've been cosseted for years on the basis of having Habana, Pietersen and Mtawawira, but all three will be playing in Europe next year...and there is not the township talent coming through as yet...
