Title: GN 50 Plus
Post by: ursmasti on May 29, 2016, 01:00:34 AM
Got this from Kings grove sports Center from Australia. Order it a week back and received it yesterday after KGS have knocked it in. Where do i start about this bat , its HUGEEEEE Monster and Pings like Crazy. Even though it weighs 3LB it feels lighter than dead weight may be around 2.13 or so. Huge edges and full profile makes it even sweeter deal. Stickers are really nice.

Weight : 3lb
Grains : 10
Edge : 56mm
Profile : Full
Sweetspot : Not sure pings and bounces every where

Now the pictures

So are you actually going to use this? If I remember you rejected an Aldred for being too heavy at 2.10?

No where in my post i said i m going to use this ... Did i ? Aldred bat i rejected because i asked for 2.7 not 2.10 and this i know for sure what the weight and KGS told me before buying its heavy and how it is ... Thats i call it perfect customer service.

Did you not write that you tried swinging them around but they were too heavy?

Good luck with this.

I think the difference was that the Aldred was supposed to be a light, match bat @ 2.7. That's not what he got (Not getting into pickup or finger pointing again). This was always going to be heavy, and he's accepted that. Ursmasti may never use the bat in a match because he uses 2.7, but he's got what he asked for. The benefit of buying off the shelf, long distance I guess? Sure, you can't pick it up and swing it about, but you're certain of the dead weight.

Yes, true. But he also can't spot a wonky handle either.

In the original Aldred post 2 7 naked was asked for. Given the grip I have from Paul's bat is 2oz...

Only on this forum can a guy

"Order light bat and recieve heavy bat"
Followed by
"Order heavy bat and recieve heavy bat"

And then get abuse for it.

I suppose to some the forum is about hovering about till someone make a perceived slip up and then try to punch them in the face about it as if they get some man points.

How's about we return to loving bats and cricket instead of the pathetic one up man ship.

I wonder if we're moving towards grading willow on lightness/performance going forward. That's a very clean looking bat @sarg and I bet I pings like crazy, but G1 for 5 grains? I guess it's not all about the grains anymore?

GN grading is the big Unknown, that said Stuart Kranzbuhler picks these so I would think its cleft weight and performance before grains. He's a master so I'd say they all go. I have to be honest as its not my bat and I haven't ping tested it yet. I have this and a Impala Pendulum here for knocking and if I'm honest I actual sort of wish these bats were knocked by the owners. Having bats hitting near £450-500 it is a big responsibility if something goes wrong. I take it on to have pics and info for my page but it's a risk.

At 2.147 it picks up like 2.127 (forum humour). I had a 3lb E41XL Oblivion in a few months back and that was like the cleft at the end of my photos. This bat is actually usable.

A bespoke bat maker showed me a huge bat like this the other day. It was impressive but weighed over 3lbs. I thought the idea of these $1000 plus bats was that of huge dimensions at light weights? There's nothing impressive about a big 3lb+ bat that most people can't use. And how does that qualify as rare and worthy of $1000+?

Don't get me wrong, it's the best 5 grainer I've ever seen! gun barrel straight & no blemishes but then I'd expect that if I was shelling out £500  :D

Understand the responsibility of knocking a £500 bat though, that's why I sent my bat off to IJC. Best of luck with it, let us know how it goes.

They aren't $1000+ for starters but they are light for the size, I agree though unless you like using 2.12 plus they won't suit but there are plenty of guys that do.

To be fair it was $875. At 2.14 or 3lb these bats are A) Gray Nicholls and that name sells bats in Australia B) hand made by Stuart and he is world class, lastly C) it's massive and its grade 1 pro grade willow. That last point was actually 2 points so lastly its Massive. Haha

Pictures don't do them justice in terms of size, it's not until you hold one to you realize how ridiculously big they are. Too big really.

What's the point of a 50+ mm edge though?
I can snick off perfectly well with a much smaller edge than that...

I say this in all seriousness, these bats ( I have one ) are prime candidates for theft from the field.

@ursmasti  in all seiousness this bat looks huge amd to me doesn't look to bad either. I am trying to shift 2-3 bats and when done will be ordering this straightaway. Really impressed with the wood and profile, personally like it more than the Kaboom.

Lovely example behind the counter at Cricket Warehouse Adelaide. 9-10 grains and a 3/4 inch of heartwood on the inside edge for a RH player. On your marks, get set, call
