Title: My first B1 LE beauty!
Post by: rockymoghal on May 30, 2016, 09:28:34 PM
This is my first review on this forum so bare with me, however I do think this review will be worth it.

I was looking for a new bat and as I was looking for some off the shelf options. By chance I came across the CBF and decided to join the forum. Boy did I make the best decision ever! The amount of talented batmakers, knowledgeable people and great deals was just perfect. I had spent forever reading through the different threads and the minute I came across Blank Bats I was hooked. The stickers just oozed pure class and the willow I had seen was just beautiful. It was honestly love at first sight.

I was talking to Paul at @ItsJustCricket and he had given me a few suggestions of bats that would suit me. I had mentioned that I loved the Blank Bats range and he agreed that they were a class above. A few emails later and I had my heart set on the B1. The lack of concaving and mid middle just suited my style of batting and I couldn't wait. I patiently waited for 2 weeks for Paul to get the delivery from Blank Bats. Because I couldn't pick the bat in person I left it to Paul to pick me out a stunner, but more importantly a bat that just goes! He sent me some initial pictures and I was sold.

This is where the story almost loses its fairytale ending.

Paul had actually taken a deposit from someone else for a B1 and told me he had to show him the bat he picked out for me. This was fair, I was jsut praying the guy would find it too heavy and go with another bat. I waited patiently looking at my phone wondering why I hadn't just bought the bat instead of contemplating and wasting time. I then received an email, THE BAT WAS MINE. I then asked for the bat to be knocked and engraved (For the Mrs of course) and picked it up two weeks later.

The bat is AWESOME. The looks and pickup are both brilliant. The bat is slightly bottom heavy but that's exactly what I wanted (Had an old bat which was the same). But the best thing by far is the performance. I was amazed not only by the response but also the size of the sweetspot. It extends through most of the bat and it's a very wide sweetspot. Definitely an advantage of having a bat with no concaving. I can now say that @Blank Bats and @ItsJustCricket have made a very happy customer who will definitely return for more. Okay enough from me.

Spine Height - 62 mm
Edge size - 37 mm
Toe size - 20 mm

Which side is the  engraving
It's actually on both edges. First and last name which was a nice touch and the Mrs loved it!

What kind of a bow ?
Hoping I don't sound stupid but is that the bend in the bat? Really new to this and always learning. I would say very slight and more near the bottom of the bat. Nothing like my CA

Bow is the bend in the blade. You got it right.

Congrats on picking up a stunner.. You made a sound decision for letting IJC hand pickng the bat.. IJC is one if the best when it comes to hand picking bats.

Lovely stick. Can't fault the minimalist stickers that let the willow shine. Now go reap the runs with it!

Thanks for the comments guys. The irony is that the only runs being scored will be in my garden. I'm actually out for the season. Just couldn't stand waiting to get my hands on this bat and I'm so glad I did. Pretty sure my living room score is 76* going into tea  ;)

What's the face width?
There are a couple of nice looking bb's on ebay in super light weight, and upon my inquiry, one was 102 mm and the other was 104 mm.

As the legal width is 108mm, I'll go out on a limb and say that the 104mm one you wouldn't even notice was thinner unless you were told.
102mm is still only a 6mm difference which is not a lot in the grand scheme of things. If you've had a bat refurbished they'd be a similar width to those stated above and most people get their bat back and use it without a second thought. They still perform just as well out of the middle at the end of the day.

Always confused when people say this, how much do you sand off the edges of a bat when you refurb it?! 3mm either side is a hell of a lot of wood to remove. Think I'll measure next time I do a refurb.

I read it on here (possibly from a bat maker) and it sounded believable, so I didn't question it lol

I measured both the B1 and B20 I have and they are 107 mm in my eyes. Again looking at I doubt you would ever realise if I lost a bit off the edges. My CA actually measured 104 mm and I never would have known if I wasn't curious and checked the bat.
