Title: Some Of My Kit Possibly For This Season
Post by: Watsontotty on January 07, 2010, 08:56:01 PM
Putting together my kit for the forthcoming season and looking to see what else I'm going to need, got a few things on the way to add to it and a bat or 2 away for a refurb etc. Apart from the SS Ton and the Laver the rest is brand new and not been used yet, not replacing my Nike boots or my Aero bag or my p1 strippers. Will dig the rest of the kit out as and when as i will have a number of things to sell on but I've not decided whats staying or going yet so in theory i may sell some of it if people are interested.

Got a few things other things like gloves and pads some new and some used and i will try and add them asap, i will be keeping the Mongoose and the Solitaire i think lol.

What weight is the Solitaire? When you've used the Solitaire I'd be interested to know how it compares to your other bats (specifically the L&W and SC).

Kit looks very nice - loving the Screaming Cat gear but it must of cost you a fair bit.

My initial thoughts and opinions on solitaire are very positive, i got exactly what i asked for in terms of shape size pick up balance handle etc. Not had a chance to test it just yet but i have had the mallet on it and feels very good, for the price I've not found anything better but early days with it yet and I'm not going to match it up to the other brands until I've used it fully only then would i try and compare.

Yer just the level the bat is on i guess, looking closely at all the bats only the laver has perfect shoulders as in both identical if that makes sense.

Lovely Kit, what is your favourite bat?

That's a hard question to answer as i have only used the Laver and the SS Ton ? but if any of them match up to the SS then i will be more than happy and I'm confident a couple of them will or i hope so at least. The Matrix is the best bat I've ever used so far.

What other bats have you had previously? What weights are the bats?

Not used it yet and needs knocked in some more, is any bat worth the money until I've used it i cant say ? out of 50 or so bats i have used i would say half have ended up worth the money in my opinion.

To be fair i cant begin to remember anywhere near all the other bats I've owned but will list a few brands from recent seasons. Laver & Wood x 3 , Bas x 2  , GN millennium now no more and I'm still sad , GM PURIST and a fair few others. Most in the pic are 2lb 10oz.

What are Laver and Wood actually like, i hear so much about them yet so few people actually have them

To be fair I've never had a bad Laver and I've had 3 myself and I've sold around a dozen and they were also very happy with them. I'm a fan of James Laver and his bats are better than most in my opinion and if he was based in the UK I'm sure he would have a very large following although a good number of people have them.

I'll go along with that chap! I have three lavers and they play better and better the more you use them.
It was my main bat last year and it did me proud!
Class batmaker for sure!

Pete the Laver in the pic was my match bat from last season, partly due to the split in my Ton but the Laver got better and better the more i used it better than 90% of bats I've used and it was only a net bat ? not bad . Sending it off for a refurb once the Puma is back ! Possibly a forum member may recognise the Laver as it was not one i purchased direct via James a forum member sold me this cheap as he didn't like it but he lost out for sure.

It looks similar to mine - I have the Firefly as main bbat, but also have a Private Bin.
The third Laver I have is the Churchill - Its grade 2/3, although I kid you not when I say that it goes as well as the Firefly!!
I got the Churchill cos ?James had a special offer on throwing in a feww Churchill if you have a Firefly made!
I did that and they were made to exactly the same spec (2lb 9oz with half inch longer blade) and the CH is used as net bat, although it goes like a gun too!

Is your a FireFly chap?

Pete the problem i had is i was running a website selling cricket equipment so i was buying most things at trade and selling them on at a decent profit so i never kept hold of things very long even if they were made to my spec. This Laver ain't a Firefly but I've still got my firefly in the loft. Ask MHB what it is as he sold it to me a while back ? what a mistake !

MHCC was the website but other business commitment's means i no longer have time however it was more of a hobby to me. Just not used the firefly yet that's all just got put up there when we moved to the new house, plenty of other stuff up there its a bit like a boys room for a grown man lol, my golf gear and all my fly fishing kit also tucked away just don't have time with a young family.

I remember John Hardy tapping the Laver up before I sold it and raving about it, don't remember selling it to Uncle Rich but I've sold a few so cannot keep track of them all. Glad it's a gun.

Perhaps if anyone is looking for a new bat and wants something special and a bit different email info@laverwood.co.nz and address it to Pilar/James and you wont be disappointed.
