South Africa knocked over for 188 on a spinning wicket.
West Indies team selection continues to change from series to series - pollard and narine recalled. Sammy, Russell and Gayle not selected.
Narine picks up a 6-fer on his return with his new action

Is this on TV in the UK?
-
Sky Sports 4

Back to WICB nonsense again ... Gayle, Russell, Sammy, Bravo, Smith etc are sitting outside. I am sure WI plans to not win this series or any series in the immediate future ..
-
Both the returnees performed quite well. Pollard especially played a mature inning to get the windies over the line.
-
Delighted to see some of the Windies global stars back in the line up. Sunil Narine is undeniably their premier spinner and when he's on sound, he's a formidable opponent. Kieron Pollard now approaching his peak at 29, finally seems to be able to play the role of a senior player.
If the pitches remain like this Narine could run riot as neither Australia or South Africa have much clue against high class spin bowling.
With regards to the like of Gayle, DJ Bravo, Russell, Sammy and DR Smith missing out. Firstly of the five I only see Gayle, Bravo and Russell as being seriously contenders. Smith and Sammy aren't going to displace Brathwaite and Holder. Gayle and Bravo could both open. Russell only gets a place if Samuels is axed, but I've never seen an international side select 6/7 all rounders and only 2 specialist batsmen.
-
Also will be interesting to see whether Narine will be around for the 4 Test series against India, he could cause them serious problems.
-
West Indies crumbled like a deck of cards in the second match of the tri series. 118 all out. The returning Mitchell Starc bagged a couple and he was up near 150kph - not too shabby considering he's been on the shelf for 7 months. 3 wickets apiece for Lyon and Zampa.
-
That ball from Narine to get Maxwell was an absolute beauty
-
with decks like those it is surprising that the windies have a history of producing great quicks

Aussies getting a hammering from South Africa. Rabada showing his class once again!
Been a while since SA have played 3 front line spinners
-
Umpire Wilson is a rather terrible umpire or he doesn't understand the LBW laws. Poor chap Thamsi has been robbed two of the plummest LBWs you'll ever see in your life.

Now that finch is gone we are done for

Tri Series moved on to St Kitts for the second round of matches.
Australia played South Africa on a pitch with was considerably better for batting than Guyana.
David Warner breezed to his 6th ODI hundred and it was a mighty fine one. He's finally getting his ODI record up you scratch. Warner is without question the best opener in world cricket. Steven Smith and Usman Khawaja both chipped in with fifties. Australia ended up on 6/288, which should've been a whole lot better but the innings stumbled after Warner got out and the South African spinners suffocated the middle order.
South Africa made a good start with both Amla and du Plessis hitting fluent half centuries. But after they fell, South Africa fell away. AB and Duminy both gave their wickets away and with their very shallow batting line up they couldn't get over the line. Succumbing to 252 all out. 3 wickets a piece for Starc, Hazlewood and the very impressive Zampa.
Unfortunately for Australia David Warner is out of the series with a broken finger.

ABD is having a pretty rough odi series. Captain doesn't seem to be leading the way with runs. Guess he is still not out of the t20 mood .. :D

West Indies put in a clinical performance last night to move to second place of the tri series table.
Australia managed to muster a way below par 7/265. Usman Khawaja top scored with 98 before he ran himself out. Steven Smith and George Bailey both passed 50. But after being 1/150 after 30 overs, Australia's innings fell away when the Windies bowlers turned the screw with the older ball. Australia seemed mesmerised by the spin and slower deliveries and couldn't do anything. They went soon 15 overs with a boundary.
In the run chase West Indies got off to a flyer with Charles and Fletcher smashing it to all parts. But Australia gifted both chances as the hapless Khawaja dropped both of them. West Indies innings threatened to stutter but Samuels played a brilliant innings of 92 to get them all but home. He particularly took a liking to Zampa...
With tours to Sri Lanka and India coming up it's a massive concern how inept Australia are against spin.
-
I can't help but notice, both games Mitch Starc has been rested, the Australians have lost. It's frustrating to be losing games and Not having the best XI on the park.
Positives are Zampa doesn't seem out of his depth, took a bit of tap last game, but good shots, small grounds and big bats mean the batsmen are going to hit you for sixes regardless of how well you bowl sometimes. Also Travis Heads bowling was reasonably impressive, unfortunately he didnt get many with the bat but I hope they stick with him for a few games.

TBH when Starc and Cummins are missing(in the latter's case always) the bowling attack looks ordinary.
Faulkner is a shadow of the bowler he was prior to his knee injury. He used to be up around 135-140kph these days he's more 127-130kph.
Same with Coulter-Nile, prior to his shoulder injury he was 140-150kph all the time.
-
I've never been sure about Coulter Nile, took a few big wickets against the saffas but bowls alot of ordinary stuff and they talked him up as a big hitter, never seen him make a run. I'm convinced someone at CA keeps getting him confused with Ben Cutting during selection meetings!
Faulkner has been very average of late, the only way I see him having any sort of prolonged stint in the ODI side is if he he works his way up the batting order. Now that everyone has caught on to his bag of tricks slower stuff, he just doesn't look dangerous.
Mitch Marsh also needing runs and wickets...
It's only now we see the value of Shane Watson haha!

Err, OK

That's the problem with most Australian fast bowlers, they are too brittle. Ben Cutting was another who used to bowl 135-140kph, but after returning from injury he's more 130kph these days.

Does make you wonder about those ones that miss by a kittens whisker, or come back as"umpire's call" doesn't it...
-
Love seeing the progress that Zampa is making. All the money CA has poured into Marsh...getting a very poor return. Makes you wonder how long they persist with guys like him, Cummins, Henriques, etc.

Cummins I would have persisted with, I can't see Marsh ever being good enough with bat or ball to be a top line player. Zampa I like, plenty of variety just needs a little more patience.
-
I hope Pat Cummins comes good in the next 12 months. That man of the match effort in South Africa is a long way gone and there is a bunch of hotshot 18yr olds lining up for his spot.

Second round of matches concluded today with West Indies taking on South Africa in St Kitts. Aside from the toss(which Jason Holder and elected to field) nothing else went right for the Windies. South Africa comprehensively routed the West Indies.
South Africa's power packed top order finally came to the party as they rocketed to 4/343 off their 50 overs. Hashim Amla registered his 23rd ODI century. Quinton de Kock and Faf du Plessis weighted in with 70s and pinch hitter Chris Morris(he batted at 3) helped himself to a quick fire 40.
In the run chase the Windies got off to a flyer and where 1/74 off their first 10 overs. But the wheels fell off once Tahir and Shamzi came into the attack. The spin twins shared 9 wickets between them. Imran Tahir in particular had a day to savour as he took his 100th ODI wicket(the fastest South African ever and 4th fastest overall) and he finished with 7/45, the best figures ever for a South African in ODI cricket.
South Africa obtained a bonus point victory and as such moved to the top of the table.
One observation was that South Africa looked a much better side with Morris, Parnell, Rabada, Tahir and Shamzi at their bowling attack. Three genuine fast bowlers plus two very good wrist spinners.
Any how the roadshow moves on to Barbados now.

Couple of updates on this.
Final round of matches started in Barbados on Sunday but the game was rained off after a solitary Mitchell Starc over. Two points a piece for South Africa and Australia.
Meaning that Australia had to win their final match against West Indies to advance to the final, which they did some what a canter.
West Indies registered 8/282 with Marlon Samuels smashing his 10th ODI hundred(his first against Australia) and Denesh Ramdin with 91. Mitchell Starc bagged another 3 poles and needs to 2 wickets in his next two matches to be the fastest ever to 100 ODI wickets.
In the reply Finch and Khawaja got off to a fast start but both fell within an over. Debutant Shannon Gabriel was bowling rapidly. But Smith(78) and Bailey(34) steadied the ship before Mitchell Marsh(79*) and Maxwell(46*) sealed the deal. Good to see Maxwell get some form back as he's been dreadful is recent months.
-
Slowly playing himself in but Holder just hit an absolutely massive six out of the ground
-
Pollard fielding at short leg with nothing but a lid & snaffles a catch! All the practise the shorter guys do for short leg and then the big guy just strolls in and owns it.
-
South Africa has been terrible this tri-series and it seems like they are carrying that momentum into the final game as well ! 82-6 ... Need another 200 to win ... Behardien and Parnell on strike .. rest of their batsman are back in the pavilion ..
-
Quite a brilliant victory for the West Indies yesterday. Reeling at 4/24, Darren Bravo and Kieron Pollard resurrected the innings and then some. Bravo was somewhere near his best with a superb 100, good to see baby Lara find some form as his career has stagnated somewhat in recent times. Pollard was his usual aggressive self but showed a lot more maturity. Holder and Brathwaite added the icing on the cake. Young Buck Rabada was sensational early doors but there wasn't much support from the other. Morkel was particularly dreadful.
In the chase West Indies never let South Africa get going. Big lad Gabriel was fantastic, bowled rapidly bagging 3 wickets. Narine them suffocated the middle order. The batting was pretty poor but the bowling was fantastic.
West Indies vs Australia in the final. Should be a cracking game.
