hey guys,
I am in the market for a bat, thinking about H4L Warbird in pro grade or 1. Is that really that good as their website claims? How does it compare with M&H CK22?
-
SSome would SSay you'd be better buying a h4l, guarantee of it being handmade here in the UK. And every h4l I've ever seen come up on here has been a jet looking bat, and the few I've handled have pinged so.

Buy which ever opens up faster and lets you enjoy your batting.
-
H4L you might as well buy an SS rather that spend a fortune on an M&H, made in the same factory
-
Avoid M&H like the plague. I play in Somerset and the number I have seen that have cracked is unbelievable. Way overpriced, many overly concaved and none made anywhere near Taunton, let alone the UK. I have no respect for the company or brand. I have 2 h4l's and they are both excellent.
-
no comparison imo, iv used both, iv had 3 h4l's and all have been fantastic
-
H4L - they are guns
warbird vs ck22 is odd as they are quite different shapes focus of what matches your batting
-
I would go Warbird, I have a G1 it's like a trampoline. I personally wouldn't buy a sub continent made bat selling at handmade UK prices.
-
Go for the warbird which you know is genuinely hand made rather than something from
M&H which you don't know where it comes from
-
I would also agree with gurujames comments regarding M&H
I too have spent many years playing cricket in Somerset and have seen enough of M&H bats break to question their durability etc
I've got three myself, of which one snapped in half. The response you get from the Taunton shop, when you have an issue is enough to put you off M&H for life.
Leave their bats to the millfield and kings college boys
It's a shame as the bats are held in high esteem by many, and there are one or two stunners out there.
But the essence with which they break and lack of any customer service or understanding whatsoever, means I wouldn't have one given
Again, as many have posted on here, h4l bats are pure class, Matt has his own willow, and the bats are all made by him.
I would also say, arguably his grade two,s and Devils are the real bargains. As performance is superb from all his bats
-
Had a few M&H's all have been guns and haven't had any issues with damage. That said I've also had a good few H4Ls and would recommend them over an M&H. The difference in what you get for your money is obscene! You can go direct or through a forum sponsor

Ok thanks guys H4L it is then, now which one from H4L? I like warbird but does the shorter blade feel different? And do u guys miss Yorkers? Also what's the difference in g1 and pro grade?
-
The warbird i picked up was lovely and as long as you hold it where it feels natural and not choke the blade then itll play like a normal SH, but id go for the profile that suits your game bst and whoich you like most id say the hell fire is the most all round profile however the nv does look lovely too all down to personal preference from here im afraid

I had both bats ok the mh I had did ping but way over priced fro a Indian made bat 🙈I am now a h4l man the bats Matt is making are some of the best bats I have seen and with over 50 bats to pick from my h4l custom scatt copy is my weapon of choice and boy does it ping the warbird is a superb profile just all depends if you want a full size blade or not but it is worth having a chat with Matt and tell him what you're looking for and I am sure he sort you something special out
-
Never had issues getting yorked using short blade bats, as Alex says as long as you hold it naturally you will be fine. I've got Customs, Pros & G1s and I've had G2s in the past. All are great bats, you can get some really special looking G2s and they'll all perform well. I got a NV G2 in a Black Friday sale that Matt put on, sold it to a team mate and it's an absolute gun!
-
Used my Wardbird in nets last night as think it still needs some playing in before i use it in a game, dug out a few yorkers and the difference in blade length in negligible. It makes an amazing sound off the bat too which is always good to hear to put some fear into the bowlers :D

Ok great I'll get a g1 warbird 😛 Thanks guys

great shout!

Warbird no question

Don't discount g2 warbirds either, same performance less money.

Yep, I've had a G2 hellfire uptil last Saturday when it split(storm damage not spotted), performance as good as any grade 1 ive ever used.
Would'nt hesitate to get another H4L tomorrow, personally I think the Hellfire is the best shape but lots of others like the Warbird.
You can't go wrong thou, great bats...
-
I have both shapes, although the hell fire one is in a Devil grade, the Devil is winning at the moment if I am honest, but keep working on the Warbird.
