Title: Fielding pads for keeping fit?
Post by: Nothing2SeeHere on June 08, 2016, 11:32:43 AM
Due to poor technique (and decision making) I have taken a couple of balls to the same knee joint to the side of the knee roll already (in 2 games). As better protection is easier to buy than better technique is to learn, I'm looking to see if I can get a tighter fitting pad that doesnt expose my knee som much when my knee is flexed.

The fielding pads look a tighter fit. Anyone tried them in a match? Do they have any drawbacks I should consider?

The stretton fox pads also look good and are within budget if they are up to the job.

Depends on the length of your shins. I keep in TON fielding pads (same as newbery test) for T20 but they only come up to the bottom of my kneecap. GM have some fielding pads that i decided to try but they are a similar length.

At 5'9" I'm pretty average height with a fairly normal 'ape factor'.

I was hoping the Newbury Test or Merlin pads might be on the right track but it sounds like they might be a little short.

Useful info. Thanks

Son is 6' and keeps in the Stretton Fox Pads. V V comfortable although took a while to get fully comfortable and stop the tops rubbing. They cover the whole leg including the knee. They aren't as light as some of the other fielding pads but offer total movement and awesome protection.

Biggest feature for me is taht they can go in the wash so the garage doesn't smell quite as bad as it used to.

I also have the stretton fielding pads. I got them from ebay and was surprised of the size of them when I opened the packaging. I first thought they would be huge and cumbersome to wear but I soon got used to them and now feel naked without them. I'm over 6ft and they offer enough protection for me knees. They don't interfere while bowling and are great when the ball comes back at you at speed.

Thanks for the feedback on the Stretton Fox pads. They sound like a good option.
