Title: Cherries on your bat
Post by: WalkingWicket37 on June 27, 2016, 12:33:49 PM
Hi all

I've had a few comments when going out to bat this season regarding the cleanliness of my bats.
Apparently it's "village" not to have any cherries.

I personally don't like cherries, so clean any off my scuff sheet as soon as possible  after each use as I like the clean look better than a load of marks over the edges and back of face of my bat.

Am I the only one who likes to remove all the cherries off my bat, or is it a kit badger thing? Would love to hear peoples opinions on this  :)

It's never bothered me that much but I'll normally wipe down the scuff sheets as best as possible during my annual end of season kit bag clean up operation.

no it's total OCD to remove them, but if you are the wife/mistress/a one night stand comes in handly as nail varnish remover is brilliant

having said that I will be using the old cherry removal myself tonight as I was caught yesterday, missed the face of the bat totally and hit right on the edge

 :)

Whilst i dont score enough to get cherries, id definitely think about cleaning up my bat for a Williamson style grouping(http://i1381.photobucket.com/albums/ah216/danielcullen8/Kane-Williamson-of-New-Zealand-bats-21_zpsfzesul7g.jpg) (http://s1381.photobucket.com/user/danielcullen8/media/Kane-Williamson-of-New-Zealand-bats-21_zpsfzesul7g.jpg.html)

It's very badger. And that's why we all do it! I think it's village to have cherries to be honest...

You know you've got problems when you buy a bottle of white spirit specifically for wiping down your bats...

This is embarrassing. Turns out I've been using my bat the wrong way around all these years.

Cheers guys. Stumping was decent enjoyed thst. I have quick hands just lazy feet. Need to shift some weight. Hallams keeper is class best in league from what I have seen.

Nice lad too, had them several times this year in cups and T20 and he rarely makes a mistake. Shame I didn't get to do the final though.

I went through a stage of doing this, then I just have up as it seemed a waste of time. I e almost gone the other way now and like the cherries. Even found myself contemplating not using a scuff sheet but quickly realised that would be a stupid idea

I've only faced 5 balls in league cricket this year. I'll take every cherry I can get!

Never ever cleaned a cherry off a bat

No one from up north carries women's nail varnish with them as they are all double hard.

I've only removed mine from the weekend because I missed the whole face of the blade and it hit at the edge on a right angle
Embarrassing!!

Crap balls half the teams use in our leagues don't leave cherries! Just big dents

cherries don't bother me, the more cherries the better I like the well used look rather than the usual crack of ' aww he's got a new bat'

I dont care either way as i get a new scuff sheet /refurb every season . But , when it comes to my bowling machine bat , i love marks (wouldnt call them cherries) ....its like feedback/proof of how many balls ive faced and seeing a fully marked face just seems satisfying.

Here in South Florida we have stopped using red ball.
All games are played with white ball and colored clothing.
So no cherries for us, mainly dirt marks or green colored marks during practice on turf.

Had 1st pre-season nets last night, finally cleaned by bats, new scuff sheet, all looking beautiful. Now my bat has dirty yellow marks on them from the training balls. May as well have kept it as is, no way my #1 bat is getting used until we get onto outdoor training with red pills...

The first task i do on a Sunday morning Is try to bring my kit back to a pristine condition boots are scrubbed gloves are wiped and inspected pads are clean with non abravsive cream cleaner bats are checked for damage and  repaired toes are  resealed grips changed all marks cherries etc removed  this season had a new guy at our club who had noticed there were never any marks on my bat look at me in a funny way and asked  me  I removed all marks from my kit think he thought it was OTT.

For the first time in ages actually used a bat long enough to get it used all season in all league games and had to give it a tidy up as was really starting to bother me hoe many cherries, marks etc where on the bat. Will look like new when I next play in 2 weeks, before I cleaned her up showed I'm having a good season with the bat now I'll look like a rabbit with a new bat lol
