Title: Phoenix Cricket Bats
Post by: madpra6 on July 25, 2016, 02:39:33 PM
Hello to all the lovely people out there. This is Madhav from Kerala, India. I play 1st division club cricket here. Basically a opening batsman & offspinner. Now coming to the point, has anyone in this group ever heard/used bats made by Phoenix Cricket? The reason I got into this forum is a friend of mine told me about the experience people got here & sensible discussion/suggestions/advice. A team mate of mine got a Phoenix fireblade & problade from these guys. I used them both in the nets & a couple of matches & I was blown away by the performance, pickup & balance. So I'am tempted to buy a problade match bat & a blade for practice matches & nets. I even had a look at their facebook page, "Phoenix Cricket Bats" .....these guys have a very good overseas customer reviews & some good posts as well.....I have used almost all the Indian brands & found nothing like these. So what do you guys say????

So what do you guys say????

I say you are a shameless plant, appearing on here to promote the brand seemingly as an innocent member of the public - but that you really have some kind of connection to - in order to avoid the thorny issue of having to pay any sponsorship on this forum.

But I could be wrong of course.

@FattusCattus - 1st of all, mind your language. If you can call me a "shameless plant" then I say you are a "Narrow minded slug" for your stupid conclusion that iam here to sell/buy something. I'am good enough to understand policies & procedures of forums. Moreover I'am no where associated with these guys in anyways. Most of all  I stay 600kms away in a different state all together. Even after this if someone has a problem then it must be the forum admin who should pitch in. Said this, if you are the forum admin then iam sorry ;)

I can't tell now if he's out irony'd me or if that's a straight answer :D   Oh the irony!!

I think slugs by their very definition are narrow minded - I mean all they're ever on about is plant this, plant that, who's got the best slime etc.

I know - we'll call in the admins and they'll sort this outrageous farrago out!!!!

I have communicated with them via FB, a) they responded b) understood my requirements c) bats have nice grains d) they have a knocking machine  e) seem to get good reviews from people who supposedly have used the bats

The only con is they put scuff tape on too many places on the bat other than the edge..this I do not like.

Overall recommend based on photos  :D  And lets keep the plants vs. zombies going..it is entertaining.

Low-density slime is the future.

Please don't tell me Nick Knight is commentating on this. This couldn't possibly get any blander could it?

Finally after a lot of thinking called up these guys & spoke to Ravi there. A true gentleman with loads of experience. Spoke to him for almost 90mins.... asked him all sorts of questions. He has all the patience to answer any question, silly or irrelevant..whatever. He asked me a few questions like order i bat in, batting style, front/back foot, favorite shot etc etc & finally we rounded off on their FireBlade which is a G1 & shared a pics of a few bats he picked as per my need & I rounded off a beauty. Should be reaching me in a weeks time fully knocked & ready to play  :) . Will update further details once I get it.....

This should help @madpra6; with a bit of experimentation the link to Photobucket can be removed & the image will be pasted in the post itself.

it's a shame the grip and finishing were only rated at 9/10, I'd have ordered 12 of them otherwise...

Oh yeah , just wondering... when did '8 pretty decent straight grains' equal perfection . Sure , i prefer 8-10grains myself , but i would likely view them as either pretty decent or near perfect , but not both . I'm sure the grain enthusiasts would have an even stronger opinion on that .
I now rate my reply as 10/10 !

since its been raining continuously tried it in the indoor nets only yesterday. The balance, pickup & ping are all very good. Feel i need a few more net sessions to get used to the bat before using it a match.

Grade 1!!!! Imagine the furore if B3 or H4L sold that as grade 1!

I paid INR.14000 for the bat & INR.750 for the preparation(its oiled, knocked & face/edge tape applied). Not sure how much it would cost in pounds.

Grains 10/10 hmmm they are even,  prominent and straight.

Id say 7/10 large blemish front and back. Low grade 1. Not to say it would not perform, it may well be better than any bat I have tested.

The rest of your grades shows you are very happy and that is all that matters. Rose coloured glasses? Perhaps, but it enjoy it while it lasts. Now you are on the forum you will soon find ways to criticise it in order to justify buying another bat or five like everyone else. Enjoy.

£162 for that? I suppose it's not that bad.

I actually don't mind that bat. Not 10/10 like it but id be happy to have that as one of my own.

If you chucked on some H4L stickers and gave it a decent finish most of the people on here would put a Homer drooling picture up as their comment.

That is actually pretty good if the bat actually does perform as well as you say it does. I checked their FB page.. looks like the bulk of their customers are based in the US.

Had a go in the nets today. Conclusion, definitely have wasted money all this while just paying for stickers. There are so many small brands which deserve attention both in India & UK. Just getting to know a few UK brands after joining this forum & going through the different sections & posts & happy to see many people here are not fans of big brand stickers  :) .There is no blemish on the face of my bat, on the back yes. But overall I consider it a very good G1.

Edge tape on the back of the bat... Grr...

Other than that, looks OK, especially for £160.

Would be nice to see some smaller Indian brands being reviewed, the more you know and all that.

Those edge stamps are a bit funky. Is it the ink in the stamp leaching into the willow or have they been applied on a blemish? Either way, looks a little untidy, but still, £160!

No blemish on the edges. Initially even i thought its ink, but its not. The logos have been heat pressed, but yes, a bit untidy.

Ah, I see.

Nothing to worry about, just something Phoenix can work on going forward.

Certainly a lot more interesting than a standard SS stamp. Nice bat, Madhav. Hope it goes well for you.
