Title: Warranty advice
Post by: BigBlueMachine on August 16, 2016, 11:25:22 AM
Need some advice for a mate. He bought a bat approx 8 months ago from a store. The bat has gone at the handle, he doesn't believe there is any shoulder damage. He took it back to the store and they have told him they'll send it off for a re-handle. My question is does he have to accept that or is he in his rights to ask for a new bat??

Why would he have the right for a new bat?? If the retailer has offered a free re-handle then that's more than fair IMO

That was my thoughts but he wasn't convinced.

If your car breaks under warranty you don't get a new car they just repair it, can't see why a bat (or anything else for that matter) would be any different.

After he gets it back with a new handle, he can split the blade into two large pieces with an axe.
Throw one piece in the river and take the other piece (with new handle) back to the retailer and asked for a replacement.

If you REALLY want to abuse the privilege, that is.

Sounds like good service, to re-handle a bat FOC after 8 months.

Care to name the retailer, so we know who gives good service?

Most retailers send the bat back to the manufacturer (if they are local to the area). I think its up to the manufacturer. If they can fix it, the new handle would be the way to go, if its broken beyond repair they can offer to make a replacement as well. However i don't think your friend has much of choice here, since its almost 8 months old. Most retailers in USA won't entertain any such discussion ... :D

I bought a ton from Uzi

Handle snapped, Uzi sent to ton(cough hunts cough) who replaced the handle and had it back to me within a week! Top and proper service.

I never expected a new bat, and that was only after about 6 weeks, wanting a new bat after 8 months is seriously greedy.

"Most"??
I would say none!
I recently sent my bat to Gray Nicolls in UK through Paul Ward of WUSACRICKET after talking to a couple of guys in USA who were supposed to provide re-handle service for $150.00, but they sounded pretty low on confidence on the phone. I knew it right away that they will mess it up.
