Title: Anyone seen this?!?!
Post by: Australian fast bowler on September 05, 2016, 03:00:27 AM
Hi all,

I saw this on another forum.

I've personally never seen damage like this, anyone got any ideas how it could have happened?

Knocking in the stumps with the face of the bat?

Could be just waterlogged, like the wood has somehow been over saturated

Either hitting stumps into the ground with the face, or used when (very) wet I'd guess.

Now bat required...

Only times I have seen that sort of damage is when the bat face as been used as a hammer

that could quite possibly be reply of the year, outstanding from you Hosk.

By forum i meant another social media platform, not a Cricket forum as per say so you are safe

Thanks everyone for the replies so far, I have sent to a number of bat makers as well so hopefully they can shed some light as well

Looks like someone may have tried knocking it in with a hammer!

ive seen something like this before (thankfully not on one of my own). i think it was a mixture of not properly knocking in a bat and netting against some very low quality balls. from memory it was almost like a mixture of cracking and delamination

I had a Kashmir scoop when I was a kid that this happened to.

No idea, can't tell if it had an effect on performance either as it went like a door panel from ball one.
