Title: SG or SS
Post by: SOULMAN1012 on September 14, 2016, 06:28:09 PM
Looking for those that have used both and your views please.

If I was looking at a purchase would I be better off with a SG VS219 LE or a SS virtue?

Iv used SS/TON bats and always been impressed but do t know much about SG

There is only one correct  answer and that  is to buy both.

I have see VS219 bats...and they looked good.

From my own experience, I found SG to be really hard, but apparently they've improved a lot now. SS are excellent, apparently the Maximus is a step up from the rest of the grades. Only tried LE, but having knocked in some Players and Gladiator models, there is a noticeable difference, even though I felt my LE was exceptional!

SG bats are more soft pressed these days. Buying both will be the best option as suggested ;)
But if you have to make a pick then go with SS

I've used them both. I had one outstanding SG King Cobra but the couple of 219's I had were absolute planks. I recently purchased a TON Slasher at a good price. 20 odd grains. I can send you some pics...if you are interested  ;)

The SS's/TON's I've had have been much better quality than SG.

The recent SS bats are very good even the mid range models. I recently purchased SS Viper for £75 and the ping on that was top notch straight from the packet. SG bats are also good but they are a bit hard pressed and take time to open up. In SG the top end ones ping straight away.

Between these I would say go for SS.

SS, you can try for larsons too in the same price range.

I've had 2 SG's both of which were heavily scolloped (before i became a bit more of a bat nerd).

One had a centre about the size of a 20c piece. I'm sure the other one has a centre, I was just unlucky not to ever find it....

I have owned both. SS have better quality than SG. However most SS bats come in around 2.10+  weights while in SG, you have better chance of finding one closer to 2.9 or less. Another difference is that SS bats have lower middles generally while SG tend to have higher middles.

SS seems to be making better bats right now, SG takes some time to open up.

Agree with what most people say. Bought an SS LIMITED EDT and a SG Sierra 350 at the same time. The ss pinged out the box, but the sg has taken a beating by the mallet 4-5 hours before starting to respond. Good bat now though.

SS or SG, well its a tough question, its just like comparing Audi with BMW, both are really big companies, both make great bats and both have their set of loyal customers.

Hallo

Tough one, think they both make great bats, agree with the previous analogy of comparing prestige cars, both have pros and cons.

Both tend to have horrible and heavy feel to the pickup. SG is the worse. And SS is over rated.
Till recently ALL of the SS bats had just one shape. Different stickers, different prices depending on the willow looks. And that's about it.

So neither of the worlds largest bat makers are any good then?

SS have been massive for us so far this season, way ahead of SG for me.

It's a wonder so many pros use these bottom heavy planks really, isn't it... Those high middled duckbill ones must pick up terribly  ;)

Most of them int'l players only use SS stickers after being heavily paid.
I thought you'd know better.

As I said, every bat SS makes is almost the same profile and same shape. Willow looks and stickers, determine the price.

I once also met an Indian player who thought he was a bat expert, and he said "SG" stood for "Sunil Gawaskar"

SS is way ahead of any brand in the world. Most of international players are using SS bats with different stickers. I know half the Pakistan team who use SS bats with CA, MB and other stickers.

Half of Pakistani team? How do you do half of eleven players?

Yes I also wonder that lol. Easily SS bats are way ahead as most pros use them.
And no players don't put SS stickers on its the opposite players get SS bats and put their sponsored stickers on.
Went to watch a t20 game in Pakistan last year and Afridi had so many SS bats he was practicing with and when he came to bat he had MB stickered bat and you could see the Ton stamping on side covered with something. And many others do this too.
SS bats especially the duckbill shape have one of the best pick ups even if they low mid. I bought a Kohli replica from SS and it was a  low mid duckbill shape and it had a one if the best pick ups. Was 2.10 but picked up like a 2.8.

This thread is going well :)

For what it is worth my views...

I have seen / tapped up several SG bats. Generally, the majority of them have been "hard". And would seem take a long time to "open" up to Optimal performance.

I have seen / tapped up / and used couple of SS bats. And majority of these seem to "ping" almost from new. Performance wise they have been amazing.

But like anything, I am sure you will find good bats made by either brand. A little luck of the draw is involved.

Team isn't made of 11 players. They always select a team of 12-16 and on match day final 11 is announced :-)

Yes SS seem to ping right away and they are ahead of anyone at the moment.

Some of the new SG bats are bit better pressed then their previous ones but still behind SS.

That's weird. How were you able to see the SS mark on Afridi's bat when you stated that it was covered? Was it covered with transparent tape?

Had both SS bats if bought from the right places are outstanding no question

The lower range sg Sierra was too decent but one of my SS bats I have had in the past was exceptional

To be fair ss can make quite a few different shapes. Go check out the m and h catalogue for proof.........

In fairness to M&H(SS). If you use the middle of the bat, it would still go as far  ;)
