Title: Custom Made SS Gold Player bat
Post by: Uzi Sports on January 13, 2010, 08:04:38 PM
I have a Custom made bat available for sale. 5 custom bats were ordered from SS for a few county players who are close friends of mine, but by mistake the SS guys have put SS stickers and stamp on one of the bat.
I am looking in excess of £200 for the bat.

I never used to think of SS as great looking bats with excellent profiles. But after seeing some of these Gold Eds and premium and custom SS bats, they are going very much upwards in my estimation!!!
I think they have got better and better in the last few years!

It all depends if they are the EXPORT quality.

What is the difference between normal and export quality?

I know one of them is kept for the indian market and one is sent to the other countries I think the export quality are the lower of the two?

Different grade of willow is used for export products against the products made for the domestic market ? they wont sell many bats out in India at £250 etc hence why they do it. EXPORT GRADE IS HIGHER.

Are u sure about Leo? Local market bats are lower quality comapred to export Quality. There is fair difference in quality hence the price
ALL OUR BATS are EXPORT QUALITY

Think that's a comment made with no knowledge of what products are made for certain markets, huge difference in quality.

I would certainly agree that exported soft goods are better than those for the local market.  However, for bats, in my experience it's a mixture.  I've personally picked up some beautiful SS Gold/Player bats from a retailer in Mumbai (when SS weren't able to supply directly) which look as good as Asad's.  They cost me a lot, but I carried them back with me, so saved on VAT and carriage.

Like Aswani said, we have to travel to the factories in India and pakistan to hand pick cleft and then get our bats made there. Working the factories is very interesting as you learn a lot as well as see ur bats made according to ur specification. I am going next month and looking forward to it.
I don't think many retailers do that.

Going by Asad's pictures, those bats are worth well in excess of £200 ... and if you look after them well, they will look after you!

SS cricket gear is rising up in my estimations, i think they are one of the best gear companies going at the moment.

Yes totally agree with you Pete! Their softs are world class, the keeping stuff is high quality as well and if they keep churning out beauties like this bat in topic, they will begin to dominate the english market along with the more renowned brands.

They have always been the best of the Indian brands, but now they are adding the price tag to it.

What do they do that others don't?, its down to willow, pressing and finishing for quality, can they do more than others?

Well whatever they are doing it is working as they are now attracting big stars of subcontinental cricket. In terms of styling with their softs/styling they are right up there with the bigger brands. Particularly now when many more pros are joining SS perhaps the prices of products are increasing, but at the end of the day i wouldnt mind spending a couple of pounds more to buy a quality product over a less inferior one that too, i know is made in India.

I actually have a gold edition and it feels as good as my better quality bats.
I cant comment on long term quality - in other words, how long the bat will perform well for, or how long before the handle cracks. As I'm sure there seems to be a slight question mark over how well made they have been in the past. But the proof of the pudding... and all that!
But first impressions are extremely promising!

But although the labels on the gold edition look a little improved, I still think they will need to get some nice labels designed before they attract some of the larger numbers who go for looks as well as performance!

SS make fantastic bats, they're incredibly highly rated amongst players I've spoken to as well.

SS make some top quality bats and I've not been disappointed with the few I've had, as good as any of the so called leading brands like GN Kook etc however i will also say i only ever bought the top end quality bats pads and gloves but they do do a lot of low end kit which ain't great. I agree with Mikes comments about the price being pushed up a bit in recent times which is a shame for the consumer but you can always look at Bas which are also superb.

I've used SS bats for years and its heartening to see that they are getting more recognition now.

Petehosk - Personally I've never had issues with long term playability. Handles could be improved even further although on the export stuff they are already much better. If they work on the final finish and the labels, they can go a long way in competing with the top brands.

Their Export quality bats are always top quality, i am talking about all 3 big makers in India, namely BAS, SS and SG. I think some greedy sellers on ebay have destroyed their(SS,BAS and SG) names by buying local market bats and sold them cheaply here. At the end of the day it also depends on retailer How much interest a retailer takes in his goods.
My interest is to sell the best bats I can,  and for that I pay the price manufacturer asks. If i wanted I could get local market products and sell them cheaply.

Now you know where to come for Quality and best price.

Products of the BAS,SS and SG are quality and their products are used by many well known Test Players. Don't ask me to name them.
