I've just recently got back into cricket after a couple of years off. Used to be county standard in my teens. After a few of weeks of bowling in the nets I felt my back aching slightly. Stupidly I chose to ignore it and it got worse, after looking it up online everything points towards it being spondylosis which is a small stress fracture in the lower vertebrae caused by bowling too much and with too much effort. The treatment said I need to rest for 6 weeks. I've been resting with no cricket at all for three weeks now and every now and again I can still feel it slightly if I bend the wrong way. Is there any way I can strengthen my back to prevent it happening again or is it just a case of easing into my bowling slowly and in short spells instead of bowling full on for an hour and a half twice a week? Any advice would be great. Thanks fellas.

after looking it up online
Go to the hospital or your GP.
Online diagnosis is often worse than useless.

Agree with Jake, got to GP.
Might get a few weeks off work!

Hospital/GP/physio.
Backs are the basis of everything don't mess with them.
There are some good stuff about strengthening once you know what's wrong but until then I wouldn't push the body too much
sorry to be dull
frustrating i know but less frustrating than having a injury filled summer.
hope the back improves and you enjoy a full preseason and summer 2017

Thanks guys. I know you can't mess around with backs. I'll take a trip to my GP and see what he suggests. Probably some physio sessions I would guess. Just thankful its now and not a week before the new season!!

I may be a tad late here, but I would definitely recommend getting a foam back roller to stretch and roll out muscles!

If it is a stress fracture or some disc damage then you will be out for a while....
