Title: East Anglia winter nets
Post by: wayward_hayward on September 20, 2016, 08:32:24 PM
I failed miserably last year to organise a net, so trying again!

I currently work near Bury St Edmunds, people of Norfolk, Suffolk, Essex and Cambridgeahire, do you fancy a net either midweek or at weekends?

I'm already missing cricket and it's only bloody September!

I live in Ely during the holidays so can fit one in during half term, Hills Road in Cambridge always a good one to use!

When are people available?

I work in Bury St Edmunds as well @wayward_hayward happy midweek to net, weekends are a bit harder with family and football but can make it happen like you missing cricket already

I work away during the week now so can only do weekends, Saturday is rugby so it'd be Sunday.
But Cambridge is the best bet for it all, as they have a couple of indoor facilities

I live and work in Mildenhall so would be available for a net around Suffolk or Cambridge. Would be happy to fit around other people's schedules. I'm sure I could round up a couple of other netters as well.

I'm in, I'll be coming from Essex. I'm not so flexible around dates due to my son's football and wife's horse riding comps. Sat or Sunday afternoons are easiest , can't do weekend Oct 15t, but other dates are free at the moment.

I'd be keen to come along - fairly flexible with regards to dates but weekends would be better as i'm about an hour from Cambridge.

OK this is looking promising. Having a look around, Culford school is just north Bury and seems to offer indoor nets. Anyone had an experience there?

I will find out some available dates and prices.

They are awful, it's like batting in a cave!

Played Rugby against Culford school when i was younger, good school and facilities in general so i imagine the nets will be fine for us willow nerds to bowl some lobs to each other.

About 40 miles from me, i'd be up for it, would prefer weekends.

Well...it's a good school but I wouldn't say the nets were fantastic. As Thommo wrote in his response it's a bit dim batting in there.

I think the Bury ones are meant to be quite good and relatively new.

If we want to use Culford, my mate is director of sports so I can get us in there. And I know they have brand new bowling machines

That's sounds like a handy way in, any idea is you can find out when it's free or the cost?

Bury are at burys ground, the only problem is because they are brand new every club wants to use them so pretty tough to get into.
I can give him a text and find out.
Ones in cambridge are still the best though by miles

Agree Culford isn't great but I haven't netted any were also around here but would be good for a coupe, of hours in an evening and then maybe a better net session at a weekend in Cambridge or Bury ST Edmunds CC

OK, how about we give Culford a go (if available)? Would be a good way of getting to know each other and then we can take it from there?

Cambridge is about 20 odd miles nearer for me, but happy to go with the majority.
