Title: Fundraising for new nets
Post by: hopwoodbear on September 22, 2016, 03:06:05 PM
we need best part of £28k for a new 2 bay net cage

we've raised £4k as a club over the last 18months and been investigating grant funding with no joy

sports england inspired facilities is closed, lottery is no go, we're not eligible for landfill and carrier bag schemes

the only sniff i've had is from the local council and the new homes bonus scheme which is due to open up soon, can apply for a max of 28k but expect if i get anything out of them i will need something from the ecb to top it up

anyone had any money out of the ecb for nets in the last 12 months? i'm being told by our county development officer its very difficult...whatever that means

anyone put some new nets up recently? how did you fund them?

would make such a big difference to members to have somewhere we can actually practice other than 30 in a net on the square

tia

54k! Are they paved with gold ?

I'm currently going through this process at the moment and applied for 20k through 4 Grants. I was put in touch with them by Cristian Durant @ Durant Cricket , who plays for the same club as the vitas boys. Cristian is a great guy and well worth speaking to about this.

i've tried several grant funding companies

did the assesment report for 4grants and they came back to me earlier this week to say nothing was available

just out of interest who is providing the 20k of grant funding, what's the scheme?

Not quite paved with gold, but impressive non the less.
Fully enclosed(don't ever lose a ball)
Twin lanes
Long run ups
Stump lines in one net.
Anti vandal fence round the perimeter.

They are some serious nets, when did you get the funding?  We don't have room for anything that grand.

4 Grants are currently working on it, I haven't heard back from them yet. I completed the assessment form and approved them to start work recently. How far down the road did you get before they said no funding was available ?

We applied during the 2015 season and it was approved around September 2015, work started February 2016 and they were ready 1 week into this season.

Have you tried sport England  when I was treasurer we had 50.000 for ground improvments and equipment within 6 weeks of applying also know of a other  local club who had 30.000 in jan 2016.

Love the stump to stump lines i find they really help when trying to grove a technique, have you any clue where you get those stumps from?

The stumps at this end, single no fall over ones are NatWest branded, believe they came with a youth training kit one cricket force.

The line is helpful both for batsmen who fall or trigger to much, and for bowlers, amazed at how many bowlers realise with lines that ther elbow appeals probably were turned down for good reason.

a little update...

we placed an order for a new 2 bay nets this week and funded it in part with grants from district council (new homes bonus scheme) and parish council

but the difference maker was a grant from the ecb, it took us years to get access to this support but was worth the wait

my advice to any club in a similar position is to get some matched funding / grants secured as early as possible, put that with any of your own fundraising and see how far you can stretch yourself with an interest free ecb loan - when you've got that funding pot in place the ecb and other funders are a hell of a lot more likely to support your project by topping up and matching your contribution.
