Interesting little video from Jonny Bairstow about his technique, especially when talking about being relaxed. Completely different approach to Moeen, which shows that though a lot of England players are standing taller in their techniques, there are still quirks and individuality is important.

HIGH BACKLIFT

HIGH BACKLIFT
We knew that already, though, didn't we?

Sorry, was just posting obvious drivel for a joke. His transformation has been something else.
I use a fairly high backlift myself, stand up straight and still. Doesn't get me anywhere mind...
-
I like that he is making changes to work on a principle. which is play the ball late.
there isn't a rigid method for everyone. everyone is different but the result is important. some thing work different for different people.
shows what a thinking cricketer he is. great lesson for kids
-
it's a very very high backlift. but as been said batting technique is working out what works for you, not what other people tell you will work for you
watched him early on for England and he was out playing across the line god knows how many times
now he plays much straighter. he must think(and it works) the high backlift helps to play straight.
really like Bairstow, terrific player and seems pretty down to earth
-
He's been very open about the changes but the thing with the back lift is look where his bat is when the ball is released, in a "normal" position, and you can tell be looking at him how relaxed he is at the crease now and the runs are coming which is great to see.

There is a thread here about upright stance in batting.
I am encouraging my kids to be more upright than I am when they bat for a number of reasons..

Surely if you're standing in a more relaxed position you weight is then evenly balanced, neither front foot or back?

Absolutely.
In my case I can be a bit too crouched.
