Folks,
I am contemplating my choices for shorter format and these are my options. The criteria for selection are listed below:
- sufficient bow for shot elevation
- Sheer power for shots
- middle for both front and back-foot shots
- Soft press for rapid match readiness
- Confiugured for bat speed (weight between 2-11 and 2-12)
- Thin oval/semi-oval handle
- Prefer performance or ping over looks of the face or number of grains.
- Can adjust bottom heavy bat with a second grip, prefer nicely balanced bat.
- Edge size and concaving (or lack of) are irrelevant .
Hell4leather Warbird or Newbery Blitz?
-
Warbird all the way, the counterbalance handle is nice, and nice and thin as you wish!
-
Warbird for a balanced & light pickup.
-
@InternalTraining I've got a 2.12 Warbird Pro. I'll try to put some pics & specs up for you to have a look at tomorrow night!!
-
H4l they are cooler

Just going to throw it out there, Norfolk kraken players bat.

I tried batting under the influence of Kraken once, didn't end well... :-[
-
Depends whether you can find a blitz like Simon Mays one, but from what I understand that was quite a rarity and to be honest from the others I have seen the blitz seem to be quite hit and miss so I'd choose the warbird purely for the constancy that very H4L I have seen has performed exceptionally well

That's how Blitz ended up as an option. Also, Blitz is available in one grade only and Warbird PRO (top end) is pretty pricey. If I can get that rare Blitz, it is going to be a bargain.
My 2017 stock is on its way and I am pins and needles. :) If I can't use my 2017 stock for a T-20 slog fest, I have to make a decision on these bats.
-
Yes for sure but if you don't care about grain why would you be getting the pro version why not the grade 2 option which would be a similarly price point to the blitz grade

That's a great suggestion!
My understanding (or thinking) is that "PRO" versions are better performance bats as _them_ (bloody !!! ) grains guarantee that performance. This probably is the marketing ploy but not one bat maker ever says that my Grade-2 bats (although ugly) get you same performance as my Grade-1/PRO bats. I'd be happy with a Grade-2 Warbird if I get that amazing performance. :)
Having said all that, my L&W Legend (their entry level offering) is a piece of work but I always thought it was an anomaly.

I have both a Warbird pro 2 11 and a Blitz which is a bit heavier 2 14 max, they both feel their respective weights, in my hands in a pair of H4L custom gloves, surprisingly the Warbird feels marginally more bottom heavy. One criticsim of the Blitz is the pencil thin handle on mine, already has two grips borderline needing a third. Either way you shouldn't be disappointed.
-
I think the way Matt presses his clefts he is always getting optimal performance from each and every piece and therefore I wouldn't worry at all about the pro grade performing better at all. The pro will look nicer don't get me wrong but for pure performance there's no need to worry
-
@InternalTraining my G2 Warbird pings fantastically and I have never thought of moving up the grades for this particular model.
-
@WalkingWicket37 - images of your 'dark Kraken' cannot now be unseen!
-
I have a Warbird G1 that will up for sale soon. around you weight point - I need to check exactly will stick in the for sale section
-
The Blitz ive got is a horrible bat, absolute plank
-
Really?
I'd be taking it straight back, the amount they cost, I'd be more than a little peed off
The tk made bats I've seen have all been proper stunners
-
Weight 2.14 with a second GM Matrix grip so 2.12 with single
43mm edges, 67mm spine, fairly full profile, blade length 545mm

Nearly forgot the most important thing, it's got a good bow! ;)
-
Beautiful bat!! Pretty full profile, little to no concaving.
-
If I put a ruler across its around 3mm of concaving. Used it a couple of times, goes nicely just needs a little more playing in. An hour with the LV mallet will do it the world of good
-
@JB , How does the Warbird compare to Hattori?
-
@InternalTraining sorry, just saw this post!! I haven't used the Hattori yet as I only got it towards the end of the season. The Hattori is 3lb 1/2 but picks up very well indeed! I've got 3/4 that need some knocking in over the winter so they are ready for next year.
-
^ Got it. :)
Let the knocking begin, I got a few myself that needs to be knocked. Good bicep workout!
-
Better stop by at their factories to pick and feel the balance. Just the manufacturer's name brand, bat model or stickers doesn't meet your VERY LONG list of requirements which are basically opinions that may vary from player to player.
