Title: Midlands net
Post by: 19reading87 on September 30, 2016, 09:58:46 AM
Righto...

Seeing as a few of you are organising nets for other parts of Blighty, how about we try and sort something for the midlands people on here?

So far I know there is

@horseman
@Maverick79
@alexhilly1492
@kenbriooo
and myself here.

Anybody else in the midlands willing to join? People outside can obviously commute too?

I would definitely be up for this. I'm in Coventry but have to say the facilities at forward drive are top class. Prefer them to bounce nuneaton in my opinion.

Hey @alexhilly1492 the forward drive academy is in Birmingham near the digbeth/sparkbrook area if I can remember. The facilities are quite new and it's a nice place
. It's also a bit cheaper than bounce. I know the guy there, farukh, and have to say he's a great guy and an awesome coach. Finally make use of my countless bats.

Haven't played for a club for 2 years now. Just coming back from knee surgery so will be looking for a club soon.

Shouldn't you boys be supporting forum sponsors and talking to @Uzi Sports  Asad  about his net facility on the middle of Birmingham?

A party of us southern Softies even managed to pile up there in our Bentleys and have a 2 hour net and be forced to buy things from his superb shop.

Unless it's been burnt down, surely you can give him a try?

I'm going to beat @smilley792 to the punch as the miserable northerner and say "how is travelling from one side of the city to the other too far, when I was a lad I had to walk 37 miles there and 37 miles back to my local cricket club and it was uphill both ways!!!"

Online bullying. Wonderful. I thought better of this forum... Why don't we think about what we are saying before bashing away at the keyboard?

As most of the previous discussions centred around Coventry and it wasn't mentioned where 'Forward Drive' was I assumed it was all East Midlands based. I'm not just on one side of the city, I'm a decent journey west of Birmingham like Coventry is to the East.

Online bullying? Are you serious? I'd take your own advice about what you put, because suggesting my small joke about you not wanting to make what is a short  journey as bullying, is pretty offencive towards people that received actual online bullying.

As for the traveling distance, my work area is kettiring all the way across to Birmingham and upwards of Derby. And I'm based in Sheffield.
England is such a small country, all easily travelable within a day. Your journey really isn't that far.

I just replied while you wrote this, genuinely was making a joke, nothing serious, based on the fact I have previous with people not wanting to travel(usual southerners don't like to go north)
Hence me being tagged in the post before.

Before this explodes, I was referring to your comment of "and a few of you to carry me to the toilet when time needs". Feel free to mock stereotypes and I'm all for banter but that was a little too close to home for reasons I won't throw up on here. So yes, that is online bullying with the implications of what you're typing. That's why I'm saying think about what you type before you type it.

As far as I'm concerned it's done and over now.

Onto trying to get some nets sorted!

Just to stir up the pot a bit more...

You may have found it hit a nerve @Mr_Orange but you have also said it's for reasons you "won't throw up on here."

With the fact you've only just said this, after the post in question, there is no way @smilley792 could have possibly known it would cause any distress, so to say it is bullying is a bit off.

The comment was misjudged if anything, but I don't think it was intended to be malicious, and now we/he are aware you don't like comments like that I'm sure there won't be any more made.

We are (mostly) a cheery bunch on here who like a bit of a joke, so I don't think it was an attack on you at all. Anyways, all water under the bridge now (I hope) so we can go back to all* being friends again  ;)

*all does not include every forum member, as some seem to like being total helmets just because they can!

My point was that I shouldn't have to declare a reason it hit a nerve at all, just think about what is being typed before it's sent. Misjudged being a better word to use, I'll give you that!

Apart form that, I couldn't agree more. I understand there was no malicious intent, and when it's merely text on screen sometimes it can come across in different ways.

As long as the water stays under the bridge and not on the cricket field!

If this were the pub I'd happily get us a round in after a slight misunderstanding.

Jeeez. A simple thread started with the aim of getting local forum members together to have a net and once again the thread has turned to trash by people feeling the need to needlessly comment. No wonder I find myself spending less time browsing/posting on here. It's become a joke.

So basically, with bunch of arguments on the midlanders net, and no-one being bothered to go to the Northerners net - what we are saying is that the Southerners are the best, the most organised, the friendliest and the most able to organise a p*ss up in a brewery. All this, and we let a Northerner come to all our nets!!!!

No drama...everyone from the southern net hikes up to the midlands net stopping at hooters in nottingham for beers and bra size guessing
Then flys up to the northern net for a decent pint and trains it up to scotland to see our scottish member.
After that we are so far from home no one will know @WalkingWicket37 from a haggis.

Pack some gear lets get moving and bridge the countrys north south divide in one hit. :)

You wouldn't think so listening to me speak, but I've actually got Scottish grandparents so I'm not quite as Southern as you'd think.

Yep, completely unacceptable! I'd still be up for a net session if people are keen, it's about time I started getting back into the swing of things.

I think it's £30 an hour for the bowling machine at Forward Drive in Brum, £20-25 (can't remember which) for the lane alone?
Title: Re: Midlands net
Post by: rockymoghal on December 25, 2016, 09:47:03 AM
Yeah let's get this sorted again. I think the sooner the better, more time just means more chance to cancel or have other plans.

Would we need a bowling machine? I assume if we get enough guys we can treat it like a normal net. For the date how about the 7th/8th January?

Yep, you Midlanders want to pull your fingers out and get it sorted,  we've had about 23 nets in the time it's taken you to discuss one. You lot couldn't organise a brew-up in a Bovril factory.

Perhaps you should mix with us unclean, outcast Southerners and have a net?  We could meet in Oxfordshire and have the cricketing equivalent of a 'dance off', it would be like the Sharks and the Jets.

We'll keep the Oxfordshire boys as honorary Southern Softies - @Northern monkey , @petehosk , @jblowe  - but you can keep @uknsaunders and his unnatural relationship with the bowling machine!

Right guys I went forward drive on Saturday and had a look at timings. 7th is looking tough but we can manage times on the 14th if people are up for it. Obviously we can also look at setting up one with the southern guys. Just wanted to let you guys know for those who maybe prefer somewhere a bit closer in the Midlands. Obviously completely down to who wants to go. I will call tomorrow and get timings and prices. I will let farukh know that I want to book a few slots and he should hold them for me. Final booking will be made Wednesday so whichever timing slot people prefer the most will be picked

For those that see this message just reply how many hours you would like for a session. My vote is 3 :)

Please come or else it's going to be quite lonely :(

 I called forward drive about a 3 hour slot on the 14th and they have given me 4-7 as the only real slot that isn't too late.

Obviously if this doesn't work I can look at booking earlier. Just let me know what you guys think. I haven't booked a bowling machine and only done the one net for now. Obviously if there is interest then I can look to add a bowling machine and extra net.

I might not be able to get there until 4:30-ish but that works for me. If we need an extra body or two as we get closer to the 14th then I can try and rope in my nephews as I've recently been trying to teach them cricket.

Thanks for the replies @Big Mac and @alexhilly1492 . I know there were other people that showed an interest. Please could you guys let me know ASAP so I have rough idea of numbers. No deposit or money needed, just let me know and then turn up so we can just split the cost with whoever shows up on the day  :D
