What is the best match you've played in, I don't just mean the one where you absolutely thrashed them, I mean the games were it would have been great to watch.
Mine has to be a cup semi final game about 3 years ago. We put on a massive 220 off our 20 overs... We were bowling tightly but they still managed to amass 205 off 19 overs.
Meaning they needed 16 off the last over...
First ball = 4
Second Ball = Wide
Third Ball = Wide
Fourth = Dot
Fith = 4
Sixth = Dot
Seventh = We just needed a legitimate delivery and we would win unless it went for 6
The ball was bowled and the batsman slog sweept it out to deep midwicket, one bounce four. All the other team came running onto the pitch screaming and cheering shouting 6 runs! The umpire signalled 6!!!!
There was nearly a bust up between the parents and coaches lol
-
i think i remeber that game wernt it u bowling the last over
-
Judging by my maths then they'd have needed only 2 off the last ball? Unless you play 5 ball overs.
-
u can tell it was made up lol i think that one got hit for six aswell ;)
-
Tom would it not be 205+4+1+1+4=215 :S
-
Tom would it not be 205+4+1+1+4=215 :S
3 fours in there. 1st ball, 5th ball and 7th ball. Making 14.
There should be 8 balls however to account for the 2 wide balls bowled if regular 6 ball overs are being bowled
-
u missed the six
-
Ahh I missed the bit where it said the "Umpire signals 6" I just scan read it, and read the one bounce 4 bit.
My error. But yeh even if it was a 4, there would have still been a ball to get 2 off which isn't that difficult.
-
Hmm i dont know where i went wrong but of course it wasnt made up
It was GB Sports vs my old team

1 of the best games I played in was 2 weeks ago,
40 over cricket, youth development league. Opposition scored 311 and we were 305 chasing, needed 10 off the last over and one of our guys tried to hit the ball into orbit instead he got not alot on in and we didnt win! I think we should have gone singles and push for 2's! And i should have scored more than 6! :)

School final and we need 6 to win off the last over.
1st ball wicket caught at point
Last pair at the wicket now
2nd ball dot ball
3rd ball single
4th, 5th and last balll were all dots, so annoying to lose by 5 runs when we should have won.
-
Fairly tense, ill-tempered game but it was a hell of a close finish:

2 to win, ball misfielded at mid-off resulting in a scampered single. Keeper fumbles the return and the skipper is so frustrated that he runs in and kicks the ball for an overthrow!
-
School game a couple of years ago, they needed 2 to win off the last over with 3 wickets in hand and my mate bowls the last over.
1st ball - Dot
2nd ball - Dot
3rd ball - Dot
4th ball - Dot
5th ball - Dot
6th ball - Run Out, queue jubilant celebrations :)

In a festival game last week...
We bowled a team out for 140 in about 35 of 42 overs, meaning we get 7 more overs to add to our 38. After an early wicket, we get to 137 for 4, captain on 55*. 3 to win, 6 wickets left, about 15 overs left, what could go wrong...?
Everything. Captain holed out to mid-off, and our hellishy weak tail in. 7 overs later, we were all out for 139... S#@t!!!!!
-
Oh my! Couldnt they even edge 3 runs between them!
-
Nope, couldn't seem to get bat on ball!

What team do you play for mate?
-
Normally a village called Barns Green, but played for West Chiltington in that festival?
You?
-
Just finished my last colts season with St Matthias and now permanently play for St Peters in the East Sussex league.
Couldnt raise a side for the festival so I had to play for the younger team who still play my age group and we got battered every game.
-
my best is probably my league debut, i just broke 3 records, youngest player to play in the league, youngest to take a wicket and youngest to hold a catch, batted at 11, was 2 no when we reached our target of 246 or 35 overs with 3 overs to spare
-
Mine is probably my first ever midweek mens game. 16 overs per side. First time I ever bowled in mens cricket and I bowled 4 overs for 32 runs and 2 wickets. We got down to our number 11 and we needed 2 off our last balls to win and our number 10 chipped it to mid on. Obviously our guys run and while our non-striker is shouting (No Swearing Please), (No Swearing Please), (No Swearing Please)! whilst running the ball has been put down buy the old man at mid on. He thinks he has lost and drops to the floor in embarrasment when our batters turn back for the second run. At this point the mid off sprints over furiously to pick the ball up which is next to the mid on and he gets a direct hit.
Match tied and we lost in a replay which I didn't play in, umpires deemed it to be too dark to have a bowl out lol.
-
best cricket match ive played in is probably a semi final 3-4 years ago in a semi-final just for pure adrenaline of us bowling and other team needing 5 of the last over
over went .2...1 and we won by 1 run and my dad ran out the player going for the second... was awesome feeling and we went on to win the final my dad got 106 n.o and i got 25 n.o coming in 2 overs left and took 3-0 of 4 deliveries
amazing season that 1
-
a couple of games for me, both this season, first of all playing for the sunday team we hit 304-4 off 45 overs with 3 players getting 50 and my dad carrying his bat for 87 not out, we then bowled them all out for 83
other game would be a saturday game, we batted first and hit 191 all out then didn't take long to bowl them out for 25!
-
Best Game Ever...School game
Dorchester Middle vs Highcliffe School
We won the toss and i chose to bat..opening the batting it hit 16 and we were going well before i decided to hit a drive straight back at the bowler oops! we the capitulated from 24-1 to 42 all out in 12 overs!
In the field i decided to stand up to the stumps and they were obviously not aware of the stumping rule...
I cliamed 6 stumpings......however....
needing 2 with one wicket in hand they scamper a single and try to run on a misfield...
the ball was returned and i took the bails off leaving us victors .....:D
-
my best match was last season i took 5 or 6 wickets from 12 over for 40 runs i think (im not sure really the number off runs sorry)
-
Myne has to be last season the last match of the evening team top 2 playing who ever won went up 2 divison 1 :)
We need last ball and we got it :)
-
Favorite game/s was a Super 8's tournament and bowled the last 8 ball over with the opposition needing just 5 runs to win, full size pitch with only 8 of us on the field. Took 3 wickets and only went for 2 runs. Followed it up by doing the same in the semi final, 2 wickets and 4 runs in the last over. In the final though lightening would strike 3 thrice but ball went through fielders legs on penultimate delivery to hand victory to opposition.

Playing in a final agianst my old team
( I had left as teenager who would always get dropped when the old guys fancied a game... despite me playing every game before and going to every training and usually doing better!!)
Batted number 6 and scored 30 odd run out, was pretty happy as I had gone the whole season with no ducks in any form of the game. We had 146 from our 40 overs, a below par score we thought.
I took a catch at 2nd slip in the third over and to this day I still dont know how I did it, I just remmember being on the floor with the ball in 1 hand!!
They regrouped and had got half way to the score in less than half the overs when fielding at slip again the keeper lets it go through him... I chase after it and the batsman shouts "Go for 2 its only Kenny!! (he was always crackin jokes so I know thats how it was meant) anyways he ran 2 and I threw it in missed the stumps and cannoned of the keepers pads.. runout!! To this day I still take the piss for the 2 runs comment!
Then as they passed the 100 mark for no further loss my captain in a moment of desperation/genius threw me the ball (my first bowl on a saturday all season). Took a wicket in my first over a chip to mid off bringing in my old captain. A couple of overs passed and not much happened then my former captain hit me for 6. I spoke to my keeper and formulated a plan.
A couple of balls later he advanced down the wicket again... I pinged it down legside (he is left handed I am right handed) he missed it... the keeper was expecting it and obliged with the stumping!
A few more wickets fell and I took the winning catch a skyer with about 15 runs to spare...I still have the ball to this day.
I rejoined the team a few years later and used to remind a few of them of that day!

For me, the best cricket matches are the ones where you have to survive. Say needing 15 runs to win, 5 overs, 1 wicket in hand. I've been in that situation about 3 times, and every single time, my team ended up losing. We have bad luck.
-
i didnt play in this game, but my mate was playing in a cup final, they batted first and got 232 for 9 off there 50, in the final over, they were 232-6. he took a 4 wicket maidan to win the game as then wickets countted. amazing
-
i wasnt playing but,
in a U11 B team fixture,
i was playing in the pitch next door,
my club had played really well, they needed 2 to win off the last six overs, 5 wickets in hand, surely they wud knock it off,
5 overs later, are Bs are in chaos, after playing out 5 maidens! and managing to lose 3 wickets, the last 3 balls of the match,
up comes the bowler, a crazy swing from the batsmen hits it just starts running, but its ended up in the keepers hands,
1 wicket to go, the bowler charges in, bowls just outside off HUGE swing from the number 11, the keeper standing unusually far back, gets on a very akward bounce, its flys over his shoulder and are batsmen scramble a single,
the most incredible cricket match i have ever heard of!

We were skittled for 104 all out.
There were 75-5 after 24. I came on to bowl when they were 86-5 after 31. Removed their opener. Had their best batsman, who's averaging 80 odd this year, run out off my bowling (he dropped himself down the order as they were only chasing 104). We took another wicket from the other end. Eventually they made it too 104-8. I took a wicket with the scores level. New batsman who's left handed. I bowl from over the wicket, spits hits the pad goes up and hits the glove and gets caught in his clothes. We appeal for LBW he turns away from the umpire and the ball rolls back and hits off stump but the bails don't come off! Next over their other batsman gets rapped on the back pad playing back to one that keeps low. Cleaning out middle a foot up but not given. They hit him for 4 the next ball.
Almost won the game after my captain told me "Just bowl mate, they'll try and hit you as they've already won."
-
Mine's gotta be a cup quarter final.
it was a 20 / 20 under 15's tournament, they were about 90 odd for 6 after 12 overs.
looking at a score of about 140.
i came on for one over the over went like this.
WICKET - LBW
DOT
DOT
WIDE
DOT
WICKET - BOWLED
WICKET - CAUGHT
i was on a hat rick for ages, and the guy who bowled next over got the last wicket lol.
i finished with figues
1 Over
0 Maidens
1 Run
3 Wickets
why did i bowl a wide grrrr.
Also took a catch in this match at square leg
We ended up got knocked out in the semi's
-
for my clubs 2nd's this year, hell of a game.
in 45 overs they racked up 279-1! their skipper got a ton....
the start to our innings didnt go brilliantly, 71-5 after 25 overs, however the tail wagged and the last five batsmen scored 41, 50*, 27, 47 and 5*
we won by 1 wicket with an over to go! classic!

Chasing 190 we went down to 30-3, me and another guy put on 50 odd to steady the ship, in the end we got 2 off the last ball to win the game

very close cup game midweek against bitter local rivals where we snook over the line thanks to a great knock from our opener and a cheekily slogged 17 off 8 from myself at the end
