Post by: Yorkershire on November 02, 2016, 07:22:35 PM
Hallo

Which current GM bat model is the closest to the purist shape?

There isn't one, if you mean the original Purist. The 1885 a few years back was similar.

I don't think they've made anything close since about 2006 mate

Nothing really compares. There is one on eBay at the moment though.

I was thinking the original, just curious as I am due a new bat soon and prefer the classical bat shapes. Not really bothered about big edges prefer a classical fuller shape.

Sounds like the new Fifty50 by from H4L would be perfect for you

Plenty of other suitable bats with full traditional profiles in stock or coming soon though @Yorkershire

i can think of a few Salix bats, Kook 2016 Ignite (we have two in our sale in very light weights) Focus GTS, Focus GTR are just a few others that spring to mind.

The fullest GM 2017 bat is the Chrome.

How about a trip to Nottingham and B3 and design your perfect shape???

I'm off to see James at JEDI on Saturday. Been wanting a shorter handle with a longer blade in a traditional style.

If Jedi weren't close by I'd have considered maybe Charlie French. I have always liked GM as I used to have a Maestro. The GM bats I have seen recently look lovely but I want a longer blade and shorter handle.

PS I did enquire with Vitas about a Hunts County and it was a tempting offer that I may go back to at some point.

@Yorkershire we can't be that far away if you need anything sorting from Jedi/CF.

@TCB visited James at JEDI this Saturday gone. Order put in.

James showed me a few LE clefts and I went for the second one, had around 8-10 grains or just 8 can't remember evenly spaced with a bit of heartwood.

I've never been one to spend hours choosing a cleft.  I trust James, hes been making bats for years and learnt under ACE, which is more than good enough in my book.

I'm off on holiday soon so told him there was no rush, hoping to receive it in December. Will try and post some pics I know people here like to see pics.

Just a follow up really... finally went and picked up my new bat. Love it! I'll post some pics when I finally get around to it.  9 grains, a litte heartwood low profile and no concaving. Looking forward to knocking it in and using it

Hopefully Images are fine...first time I have posted images.   Its already getting its first few oil coats. Not measured edges or weighed it (not bothered myself), but will get around to it for you edges and weight people :P

Has 9 even spaced grains and full low profile. Looking forward to knocking it in.
