Title: Butterfly Willow
Post by: VKS on November 16, 2016, 04:32:05 PM
We've received a delivery of butterfly willow bats from SS TON. Although I've personally never really paid much attention to this type of willow, after reading all the comments on the forum and the general interest levels, I thought we should give them a go.

Further details can be found on our website http://vks.com/store/s-ton-butterfly-willow-cricket-bat/ (http://vks.com/store/s-ton-butterfly-willow-cricket-bat/)

We have also just uploaded a video on YouTube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h_uBJ0KwJP8&t=41s (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h_uBJ0KwJP8&t=41s)

In terms of weight available, we have some 2.7 and a larger numbers of 2.8 and 2.9

Unable to access youtube at work.

Just to confirm these come blank, with just the TON stamps on the back and edges?

Yes all plain, just the TON stamps...no point in hiding it all behind a load of stickers.

Actually there is nothing wrong with them. I've just bought 4 Bellingham and Smith's. A bit of trimming down the number of bats were required  ;)

Hi Guys - did anyone apart from Mr Taylor end up buying these, and if so, any pics / reviews?

@VKS do you have any of these left in the lighter weights?

Having had a number of messages regarding Butterfly Willow bats from SS Ton, I am pleased to say we have had a new delivery. The blades look pretty good...well as good as a butterfly willow blade can look i guess. They ping well, which is most important and hopefully the images below will tell it all.

Quite an array of butterfly willow, there.

What is the weight range?
Are they all a similar profile?

Are these a bit more of a Master/ extended middle shape than the last batch?
They are exactly the same shape and profile as the last delivery we had.

No heavy ones I'm afraid, but we are working on another order with SS and if there is a call from some of you for heavier ones, then thats not a problem. I am sure we can get some heavier ones in.

...actually it turns out the ones on this delivery are rather like the Master's. They also have the square toe, as is shown in the photos.

Hi,

Are these still round handled? Would definitely purchase if they came in oval.

Thanks!

A round handle can easily be made oval with a few strips of medical tape :)

Could you explain bit more or provide a link or video.

I got one round handle bat that i really like but realized on tuesday (after coaching) that i need oval handle as i was dragging towards on side with bottom hand too tight .

I think batting  with soft bottom hand should help you.

Just received my butterfly, stain at the top and on the back but the face is clean just looks like your looking at it through frosted glass. Seems to ping well just quite a small and low middle, first go with it tonight in a corporate game where they tend to use awful balls. Very excited to see how it goes.

For your own sake I'd highly recommend not using a brand new bat in a game the same day you've received it, especially if the balls aren't good quality! There's a reason knocking in exists! :(

Apparently they come pre-prepared and have given it another 90 mins last evening just incase. Sheet and edge tape on and were good to go. 90 mins was probably the longest stint ive ever done knocking in but was a good evening of TV so headphones in and was all set

Thank you. I have already made the change even started using oval handle bat.

I noticed in nets it has helped me as i was smashing the ball nicely and i felt quite confident as well. ( i changed few other things too)

You won't regret buying one mate, use mine in the nets all the time and a couple of 30-35 retired knocks in corporate games. Surprisingly mine has a very oval handle, i don't know if that's standard though.

Just a note to say these butterfly willow bats are still going at VKS -- I picked one up the other day. A really nice selection of different staining patterns, weights and balances, and a very versatile profile with mild concaving. Thanks VKS.

How long did people find these took to play in? Mine goes well in the very middle but about 500 runs later its still super hard pressed.

I think the butterfly stain makes them harder anyway - though I could be wrong. I showed a butterfly bat to an old guy that I worked with, he said: 'I haven't seen one of those in years - they used to be reserved for the pros you know...'
