Title: My new GN 50+
Post by: Ajdal on November 18, 2016, 08:31:55 AM

This bad boy arrived yesterday. The pressing on it is amazing!! Straight out of the packet the ping seems better(tapped a few balls on it) than my 30 match old CA Plus 15000 7 star. Just put the initial coat of oil on it before taking the picture.

Bought from Gregg Chappel Cricket Centre.

Specs:

2.14
52 mm edge
75-76 mm spine approx

@simonmay5

22-23 mm. A little skinny for my liking, especially when you consider the size of the swell.

Just looked a bit skinny compared to the rest of the bat but it's the middle what counts and that is going to go miles that's for sure

My oldest memory of a "cool" cricket bat is of the GN scoop bat. GN still keeps making some of the best bats in the market. Kranzbuhler is the best bat maker in the world today. Period/full stop.

If I don't get the low density, big cleft I have been looking for a couple of years now, I will opt for another GN big bat. You just can't go wrong with these big bats!

I've only had Pakistani bats so far and this GN 50+ is a very nice addition to my limited collection of bats. Not saying that the local bats aren't good, but this Aussie bat is on another level all together.

Even my local retailer who only stocks local bats was in awe when he saw this.

Have used the bat for 10+ games now and its an absolute beast. Even the back-foot punches to long-off and long-on against spin bowling makes me giggle. The bat weight was 2.14 when it arrived. It is now slightly north of 3.2 with 2 additional grips and 2 scuff sheets. Guys if you can wield a bat this heavy, don't think twice. I'll admit I don't feel too comfortable playing shots square of the wicket even though I'm a pretty strong guy.

I was so impressed with the bat that I ordered an xp80 and have let go off my other match bats.

Why 2 scuff sheets?

Oh well, the kookaburra scuff sheet that I ordered with it didn't really stick to the blade after oiling. I went to the local store and got a nice thick sheet but it was smaller than the usual scuff sheets and didn't cover the whole hitting area.

Hopefully. The xp80 has been delivered to a friend in Sydney who will be bringing it to me mid of march. Can't wait!!

Thankyou. This was my 4th this season to go with roughly 20 50s :). Probably the only reason I can justify the cost of these bats.

having got players in my team that use both b3 & laver & wood , I can tell you there is a significant difference to the 50plus & xp80 ,  don't get me wrong the b3 bats & laver & wood bats are lovely examples & their owners are very happy , but when they use the GN's even they are commenting on them being the next level , word is Melbourne made some that were even bigger but will never see production due to the new laws , they will just disappear to a lucky few.

You talking willow or pressing? Surely a faithful copy of the 50+ or XP80 by B3 or Laver is going to be the same same?

I am just wondering what the other team must be thinking by looking at the bat  :)

They must be saying "it is the bat not his skills"  :)

No chance, B3 don't seem to bow and Laver wouldn't be able to get the size.

That is true, the one i am getting is similar but not exactly the same as GN50+ (no bow & less wood near the stickers)

Have used my GN 50+ which I got from forum member in a few matches and it's a beast. Weighs about 2.15 with extra grips & scuffs etc., picks up like a 2.11.5 to me. I have hit effortless sixes straight down the ground, in covers & over point. It's certainly the next level bat, worth the money imho.

Haha!! That statement mostly comes from my own team :)

And yes the opposition team's fielders usually come up to check out the bat. The sound it makes especially off the new-ball is majestic.

There are no 6s because I didn't attempt any. The batting line-up was pretty fragile and I had to make sure I don't throw away my wicket.

Sixes with a 3 pounder over covers, you must have Thor's strength !!

Don't have Thor's strength but a bit used to heavy bats now. Only thing you need with heavy bats is a bit of timing.
