Title: Maximum edge and spine height
Post by: ogroupleader on December 10, 2016, 10:34:49 AM
A question for the batmakers. What is the maximum edge and spine height you can get from a standard size cleft?

I think the standard cleft size is 35-40mm edge and 60-65mm spine height but I may be wrong

Ok so here comes my stupid question. If the ckeft can acvommodate a spine height of 65mm why is the max edge size limited to 40mm?

Because the way a tree is split you don't spilt the round into rectangles you split it into triangles to maximise the amount of clefts you get from the round  and minimise the amount of heartwood you get in the cleft

You will be struggling to touch 40mm on a normal cleft only way it really possible is flat face and not much knocking in...

So are the new bat regs approved this week within or outside normal cleft parameters with proper pressing ?

If a 7mm traditional camber is used (Blank Bats will be all over this) the total dimensions  and possible volume are actually quite generous.

I ran this gauge mock-up over a few bats I have in 2.9 and they were 15%+ under the possible area. I'd guess a normal bat will these specs and moisture would weight around 2.11-2.12.

Yep, the Blank Bats B-Oz has traditional rounded face and can easily accommodate those specs with room to spare! As it is, it's a cracking shape! Contact Blank Bats if you want to have a look at them over in the UK, or PM me (I distribute for Blank Bats in Australia and New Zealand). Selling all Blank Bats shapes in grade 1+ at $475 (shipped) and other grades (again in all shapes) available too.
