Title: Your "Rest of the world xi" vs India in Indian condtions
Post by: smilley792 on December 11, 2016, 10:09:30 AM
India are pretty phenomenal in there own back yard. Recent tours have not gone well at all for visitors.

So, one of test series, in India vs rest of the world. Who would make your xi and can they win??

Warner
Abv
Smith
Root
Williamson
Stokes
Sarfraz
Shah
Mehedi
hereath
Starc

I reckon they'd be some decent 5 day tests between that side and India.

Starc's record is pretty poor on the subcontinent. Would rather have the fiz and hareath instead of hafeez. Probably hareath ahead of shah too.

The Sri Lankan keeper would get the nod for me, outstanding stood up to the stumps which is where he'll be 90% of the innings

Starc in India not so good... only 2 matches in 2013 though and is a much better bowler now.
Starc in subcontinent average is  25.21 (better than his overall average of 27.66) with 28 wickets from 6 games.

I'd stick with Starc and I'd also go with Steyn instead of Mehedi

Instead of Stokes I'd go with Younis Khan and Herath instead of Hafeez

Tricky - you'd want six bowlers with three spinners and three quick seamers, plus a top keeper and a decent lower middle order.  On that requirement, something has to give as India have almost complete hegemont on frontline spinners who can bat above nine.  Thinking...

Okay, so I have:

David Warner
Joe Root
Stephen Smith
Jonny Bairstow
AB De Villiers
Angelo Mathews
Ben Stokes
Shakib-Al-Hasan
Yasir Shah
Mehedi Hasan Miraz
Mohammed Amir

Thats XI currently playing test cricket.  If we were going for XI currently playing, I would bring Sangakkara in for De Villiers.

Sorry but Williamson is first pick and bats at 3 in this team.
Steyn's record in Asia is also brilliant and Starc was incredible on the recent tour to Sri Lanka so should play
As is Cook's despite this tour.

Plus Younis Khan is also inked in at 4 as a brilliant player, especially against spin.

Warner
Cook
Williamson
Khan
ABDV/misbah TBC
Stokes
Sri Lankan keeper
Hereth
Shakib
Starc
Steyn

No Root @Buzz? Isn't he averaging 50 on this tour??

Root gets out too often when he's set ATM.

Kraig Brathwaite might be worth a shout. Last time he played in India he made a stack of runs.

Warner
Brathwaite
Wullyumson
S Smith
AB de V
Stokes
Sarfraz
Mehedi
Starc
Steyn
Y Shah

I want a spinner turning in and one away to right handers, pace and a track record in India for batters. Sarfaraz is in because I love watching him. Imad Wasim would be my bolter, as an attempt to replicate Jaddu's left arm darts, but I've gone with Yasir.

If Steyn is injured, then I'd go for Rabada.

Hard to see an argument against this! Only changes I'd like would be an offie over shakib, but there's not a good candidate, and doubt over steyn making it through a series. Anderson to replace him probably.

No need for "rest of the world"...a Pakistan vs India series would be enough.

I'm sure Kohli would love to face non turning hype job Yasir Shah...

with their fragile batting line up, always a nice chuckle for a monday morning. Then again pak fans would claim it to be a fix when they did lose ;)

My side would be (with respective batting averages in india)

Amla - 70
Cook - 52 - First innings/flat track bully ;)
Williamson - 35
KP - 44 Believe he's still available for selection
Root - 54
ABD (Wk/c) - 45
Stokes
Santner
Steyn -
The Fiz
Hareth

Tempted to also add Darren Bravo - averages 50 and has got a fair few runs against india in india.
Warner's misses out as he's struggled in india

the question pertains to "Indian" conditions, does it not? If so, the Pakistani batting lineup is far better than any other non-Indian lineup. This isn't a "dig" at anyone else...it's fact! Look at their UAE scores, and also look at the fact that they chased 300+ vs SL, in SL.

So, the best "world XI" to face India, in India, is Pakistan. Younis Khan, Misbah, Shafiq, Sarfraz (even Azhar Ali!!) have been dismantling spinners, in these conditions....surely no more compelling a battle than to see them face up to Ashwin?

Slightly off topic but I'm i assume Pakistan arent due (or likely) to play a proper series against India (in India) anytime soon?

If playing against India, you have to have Pakis in the squad  :D
Younis Khan, Amir, Sarfraz Ahmed will be definite pick.

Younis...not anymore. Sarfraz...not when there are so many class all rounder keepers
