He is tired.

He is tired and mentally struggling, we have had no idea of our best team in india. Of course theres nothing you can do about injuries and percevied loss of confidence.
Where he is right is no 5 and 7.
Ive said it before and know others disagree. Butler keeps, bairstow 5.
Then you work around that and it fits together.
We have to think long term and settle down.
-
Disagree! The bloke left his few day old son to go to India. Don't tell me that doesn't effect you mentally!
-
there's no test match until July by then Cook will be rested prepared and mentally ready to carry on What happened in Bangladesh and India will be just a memory.
-
^ The point Chappel is making is that you lose time to bed-in the new captain if you wait till next Summer.
Career Cook should give a serious thought to his career as a batsman and a record breaker instead of England captain. Same for Root. Benji for captain or even Jos Butler in a leadership role (if he improves his Test batting).

Good point...ask yourself this..if Cook has such a jolly boys relationship with the ecb do you not think he could of been given one test match off and joined the squad later? Its been done before i am absolutley positive

I very much hope you are right on that
-
This:
"Anyway, it is not up to Cook to decide whether he remains captain - it is the selectors' job. If they decide Cook is not the man for the job, out of deference to the sterling work he has done as a player, they should give him the option to resign."

I personally think he did request it and the ECB refused which has led to this whole thing!

Yep.....so do I
:)

Ian Chappell can f-k right off and mind his own business!
-
Cmon @edge, opinions are like bum holes- everyone has one!
Chappell always bases everything on batsmen aren't young enough, cricket isn't attacking enough and Kim Hughes should be sacked.
-
Edge is a legend.
-
Cook's a very stubborn man and won't quit. He'll leave the decision to the ECB just like the ODI captaincy - cook still thinks he's good enough for the odi game.
Cook will happily stab other players in the back to save his own
-
Id be staggered if any if that were true.and if it was it would of leaked out to the press over the last five years, same as it did with the bunfight over KP.
What he is actually doing is trying to rebuild a young team and shield them so they can play their natural games.
Im amazed more people cannot see it.
He is not a great or natural captain.
Root and stokes must know the england captains is the most critisised position after the eng football manager.
Root said the other day he has some growing up to do himself.
Speaks volumes that does

With an eye on the tests in Aus in November Reckon Chappell and the Australians would like to see a New England Capt in place rather than the guy who beat them in then own backyard.
Another reason The ECB will want Cook to stay as Capt

Whoa, have you got any proof that such a thing has ever happened. That's one hell of a statement to make about someone!!!
I don't know cook at all personallyl, l only know of him from what I've seen on the pitch and interviews, and while some of his captaincy and post match interviews aren't my cup of tea, you can't go round slinging accusations like that just because youre not a fan.

Cook has a 0-5 record as captain in Australia...

Strauss was skipper last time we won. Cook has never won a test in Australia as skipper.

should have ewritten

Hasn't he played in both the whitewashes though?
I think his record as a player in Australia is something like:
Played 15: Won 3 - Drawn 1 - Lost 11

As a player his record in Australia is, played 15, lost 11, drawn 1 won 3.
He was involved in two 5-0 whitewashes. One of which he was captain. I'd say he has some scars and Aussies will probably be happy to have him in charge.
-
I think it would be a smart move to blood a new captan now and give him time to settle in

Yes if Cook is going to go he should go before the start of the uk cricket season also there's no point in him being captain during England's 2017 summer tests then resigning.
-
All this talk of him going is ridiculous really.
It's 7 months 'til he needs to captain again, plenty of time for him to re-energise and more importantly, plenty of time for him, Farbs and Trev to sit down, talk through his performance in India and areas where he is struggling with the role of captain and put it right - all t needs is a bit of common sense.
I don't see any stunning candidate to take over from him, and whilst I am not a 100% fan of his rather defensive captaincy, handing over everything to the likes of Root / Stokes / Butler will be the ruin of them in the way it was with Botham, Gower etc.
Sometimes you have to tweak waht you already have.
