Title: My Final Bat - Ever
Post by: InternalTraining on December 27, 2016, 07:05:13 PM
Folks,

It has been long time coming. I have bought bats that were medium weight, that were heavy, high middle, low middle, middle middle, thin handle, thick handle, bow, no bow, and extreme bow. I have done experiments with custom bats and have bought generic off-the-shelf net bats. I just don't see, there is any other type of bat that I can buy and still have enough time to use it. So, today, I am making the announcement that I have ordered my FINAL bat, ever! I shall no longer buy any more bats. If I need to reach for a bat of any weight category, I will simply reach into my cabinet and grab the weight I need. Its been a long journey but alas, I am done. No more.

And, you are wondering which bat is my final purchase. Well it is an ex-pee eighty, two thousand weighing two pound ten ounces. With oil, additional grip, and a anti-scuff sheet, I will get the weight up to two pounds twelve ounces or more.

This is my first step towards my recovery from this addiction. Hopefully, overtime, I can sell off some of my stock on the forum - I got some beauties that I am not using. :)

So, wish me luck! I certainly wish myself plenty. :D

Wish you all the best. My concern will be the shipping cost out of USA.

Shipping to the US is very reasonable currently so I'd imagine it can't be too bad coming the other way either.

Did the same last year and suffered bat buying withdrawal syndrome which can only be cured by getting another bat.

But if it turns out to be "the one" won't you need it copying? :)

I am currently using what could potentially be my "best bat ever" and I'm getting it copied (by the same maker) next month... :-[

^ You speak the truth and that is exactly what led me to where I am now. "Oh, this bat is too nice! What if it breaks?! I need a copy. I need another. I also need a net bat." I have lost count but the number is between 25 and 30 right now.

I went through this last year. I'm now on my 6th "final bat ever" ;)

I have bought at least 8 after I decided to stop purchasing and start selling. Now planning on the (next set of) last 2 bats; a GP274 from @GDP1964 & another X3 from @Red Ink Cricket.

Hope my OCD will be cured soon.

Xp80 2000  awesome pick for the alledged last , the problem you have is it needs a kaboom & a 50plus to compare , 35 to 40  cmon  when you get over 100 then you have a problem

I have a Warner replica (made by the one-and-only Stuart Kranzbuhler) and it is nearly 2-14. I had to have an XP ! Nobody is doing what Kranzbuhler is doing right now. Why not end this on a high note.  :)

Minimum weight of 50 Plus is 2-14, is it not? Probably because of the big handle?

Probably because of the soon to be outlawed 50mm edges?

Actually the handle isn't big, rather a thin one.

I find Australian Gray Nicolls handles to be thinner compared to UK Gray Nicolls.

I don't know what weight Aussiecollectors 50+ is but it certainly doesn't feel like 2lb14 and is bigger than the Warner

50plus weights    2lb 13oz for the 54mm & 2lb 14oz for the 56mm both have the gn skinny oval handle that i love    my warner replica 2lb 12oz 53mm ssh  the warner actual players sh with a smaller end knob 52mm & weight 2lb 14oz with chrome decals it is the best balanced & feels the lighest  did a test blinfolded & all three guinea pigs picked the warner everytime

In terms of profile, I find Warner replica to have little concaving?

In terms of handle, I would guess the thickness would be the same with length being different (Warner being SSH while 50+ is standard SH).

I can use bats up to 2.10 but I find 50+ to be touch heavier for me as the innings progresses.

I agree.
A bat picking up light doesn't mean anything, it grows heavy as inning grows long. :D

Why's that then?
As with the graphite backed blades of yesteryear (which an amateur cricketer could still use), you will be allowed to use them for "the natural life of the bat". If you look after you bats there's no reason they won't last you for years to come.

I probably have enough "soon to be illegal" size bats to last the rest of my playing days if I wished to use them. Equally, I already have plenty of decent sticks that fall within the new size restrictions. I have hit enough sixes with these "small bats" to tell you the new size regulations will make sod all difference anyway...

Agreed. My "normal" and "regulation" bats are good enough for me. But still...  :D

Sorry but I think you have been either brain washed by some salesman, or you are bragging too much without even knowing it.

As you can see in the link below, Barry R. is holding THE ACTUAL Warner's bat.
Neither it is a SSH, and nor does it have a "smaller end" knob, AND no "thin" handle.

Sorry to burst your bubble what you have are only buzz words used by a salesman. Your bats are nothing close to Warner's actual bat. IMO.

You're wrong.

If you read the last three letters of my post, you will enjoy the human perception element of things that I simply voiced my opinion. My opinion may not be accurate (and I am open to the possibility) but I, as a person, am right or wrong is not something you could figure out - but then again, a desi does what a desi does.

Yeah man, It's not Warner's - Barry Richards is actually holding one of your stolen bats that you whittled in your garage using pre-historic stone tools. Happy now?

We know who doesn't know what they are talking about. The original Warner bats had the knob cut down as can be seen in this pic

He said the replica he has is a ssh, and 2.12 at 53 mm edges.
From your picture, we may not guess the weight but we can take a good educated guess that Warner is not holding anything that has 53 mm edges.

Warners profile has changed again this season. The edges are nowhere near as big as they were a season ago but the spine seems higher: something between an XP80 and 50plus by the look of it.

Sitonit the bats in the pictures are 2015 models   i have a 2016 & one of the last made as a fact not an opinion  when you have a warner that comes with a coa from stuart kratzinbular stating it is a david warner players bat & a picture showing this  then you can comment & compare   & unlike you both number4 & skip1973 have seen my bats & know what i am saying is true  , i don't post pics because of muppets like you , 2016 models came with both ssh & sh handles the reason for the change is because buyers did not realise the handles were so short  something other's on this forum will find out when their bats arrive from greg chappell's sales  feel free to give your opinion on this

I just watched the highlights where he scored a century against Pakistan yesterday. And he has a bat whose edges look wider than the face of a harrow bat.

No this is the actual players bat (wish it was mine) and it was 54mm edge and over 75mm spine and still under 2-14 and picked up mentally and was a ssh.

They are special these bats but then again so are the Halestorm and the Pro performance

The Warner replicas were too heavy for my scrawny arms...but am tempted to get the halestorm as my "last bat ever"...based on certain members, it clearly means I am compensating for lack of talent and all I will say is....it's probably true :D

My Warner has a stamp of the letter "S" on the shoulder of the bat. It was one of the 20 made by Stuart Kranzbuhler himself for Mueleman.

It weighs 2-10 but picks up like a toothpick.  The thin handle also helps the easy-to-pick feel of the bat. And, out of the box ping is hitting a pretty high ceiling! :D

I wish I had bought this bat earlier. I missed out on a great one while dilly-dallying with other "options". Just the pickup on this design makes it worthwhile.

It also has a beautiful bow! :D

So, I had had heard comments that it was a nice arc but not a bow. It actually has a very nice bow. The point of the bent on this bat is higher than any other bat I have simply because the middle is so high. Aerial strokes would fly on this thing. ;)

Very nice! Looks wonderful bat to end your bat buying streak. Sad to know that your 50+ is not with you anymore but is the handle as thin as that? And does XP80 have twine on entire handle?

But on a serious note, I wonder how long it will take till you buy another bat :)

^ I have a Warner, never bought a 50+. :)

XP has a very thin handle, same as Warner. I have to check the handle under the grip, still admiring the "new ness" of the XP. :D

I'm sorry, I thought you had that.

I look forward in hearing how it plays, especially in the lower half of the bat.

They play really well. Due to the height of the spine, the middle is really long, and lots of fun! So much fun in fact, they really should be illegal. Oh. Hang on a minute.

Even lower down the face, you are still getting good rebound.

I don't know. I've never looked, and obviously, I can't tell the difference, because nothing made me check!

For a 2-10 bat, it picks up like a toothpick! I am going to beef it up with oil, anti-scuff sheet, and a second grip which will bring the weight close to 2-12.

Have you done anything to protect the toe of your XP80 @tim2000s ? I don't know if it's just because the spine is so big but it feels tiny!

Have used an xp80 for over 6 months now   lots of yorkers  no splits or any issues  lots of hours knocking it in    they have a soft face & toe  compress really evenly     timing hits the ball further than bat speed with these beauties

No, but I grew up when bats weren't massive like some we see now. These bats have toes that are no thinner than normal bats were in the eighties and nineties, so I have no worries about the toe.
