He is having fun. :D

All you future young Aussie stars, have a tip.
Score Smith's runs, it don't try and bat like him. I have no idea how he is successful given his technique.
-
It's superb how fantastic he is. Very Similar to Dhoni - horrible techniques but they get runs
-
"It doesn't matter how, it's how many!" Quote from a great man.

I am glued to this video. There is so much bad about it.
The feet position, the grip, the hip position.
The fact that the ball he hits straight a normal player would hit through extra cover
But it works.

Just makes it hard for the fielding captain to set a field for him and then for a bowler to bowl to him. bowlers fall into the trap of pitching it up at middle and leg, which is in his slot.

He looks so bottom handed too @Buzz

Theres huge diversity in every sport when it comes to individual technique. And there often seems to be far more exceptions than "the rule".
-
so much bad about it? there is no right or wrong way to score runs and play shots

If a "normal player" would hit it through extra cover, and Smifffy hits it straight, what does that make the blokes who would dispatch a ball bowled there over cow corner? (Asking for a mate...) :-[

If you're comparing it to something like an orthodox technique i.e. Something from the MCC manual the yes he looks completely wrong but it's the old adage of not how but how many, and he certainly scores a lot.
The amount of club cricketers I've seen score runs with poor technique makes me wonder if it's really that important anymore.
Personally I can't watch Steve Smith bat, and it's nothing to do with his actual technique, it's the amount of twitching and OCD fidgeting between his shots that annoys the hell out of me!!

@Buzz is it really that off? Seems like his balance is OK and his head is in the right position. Bottom hand not too strong (otherwise he would be turning the bat to leg) and weight going nicely through...no?
-
Smith's eye/hand coordination is sensational hence why even with his idiocsyncratic method he scores heavily.

Yes, head position, balance and timing are impeccable. Which is why it works, his bottom hand grip is horrible, but it seems to be a trend to hold the bat like that these days, Hales and Roy also hold the bat like that.
Might explain why Hales struggled at test match level.
Smith's head position is better than Hales and he is more fluid and less stiff than Hales too, in my view
-
I didn't notice it earlier but his bottom hand _does_ look funny.
His head position, balance etc. looks fine.

The back heel twists upward.
Buzz knows what I'm on about
I'm forever watching the back heel on players on the tv.

He plays with the power L position heel
