Don't see why he'd want to switch from Gm? Unless there was something in it personally for him!

He has plenty of time to knock it in as they were well beaten today by the West Indies.

Just thought I'd confirm that Vince is still with GM and won't be a Mongoose player.

He went to Hunts and had the bats made in front of him.

Don't know his exact spec.

I take it most will be using the CoR3 for anything other than T/20.
Well done Tom though :)

Tom last time i was up i was speaking to another of the Durham first team who's contract was running out soon with his current sponsor and i got the feeling he was looking around at a new sponsor and he is a very good player.

Blimey - certainly splashing the cash around.....have to speculate to accumulate though - blacky had a good season last year, you'll be hoping he can emulate this year.
Title: Re: Mongoose
Post by: Tom on April 12, 2010, 09:47:07 PM
Exactly right. My guess is that there are only  2 brands out there selling upwards of 5k bats a year without an International player using their gear.
Title: Re: Mongoose
Post by: niceonechoppy on April 12, 2010, 09:49:58 PM
Yes wasn't it 100 bats a day you are selling Tom? If so heavy quantities for quite a small developing company!

Newbery and Salix??
Title: Re: Mongoose
Post by: Tom on April 12, 2010, 09:52:37 PM
A good day is 100. You have to remember how seasonal cricket is though, you can do loads in a month in Sept through to April but then it all goes quiet.

That gives me plenty of time to look at next years ranges though :)

Just because they're well known doesn't mean that they aren't a small company...

No, probably 20-50 bats per day, at best...

any jobs going over there at gooseHQ? Lol, I'm out of a job next month, worth asking for a laugh
Title: Re: Mongoose

Kember wouldnt be making 20-50 bats a day in his workshop......he would need outside help to produce that many.....but he wouldnt be selling 5k, i think Leo was suggesting this to elicit a response from Tom - who is suggesting that Mongoose sell in excess of 5k bats a year.
Title: Re: Mongoose
Post by: Tom on April 13, 2010, 07:16:59 AM
Far too early to say what Mongoose sell in a year, haven't done a full season or year yet.
Title: Re: Mongoose
Post by: SillyShilly on April 13, 2010, 07:26:54 AM
well going on 25 bats a day, which isnt unreasonable considering the amount of exposure mongoose have had and paid for, heightened by all the frenzy surrounding the IPL - i make that 3750 bats sold through the season, plus or minus good and bad days - that leaves a 1000+ bats to be sold in the 7 months between september and april, which again might be a push but not impossible.

Whats been the most popular bat so far (numbers sold) - the MM13 or the COR3?
Title: Re: Mongoose
Post by: tommy2tink on April 13, 2010, 07:29:22 AM
Tom said on another thread that they're selling/have sold more MMi3s than Cor3s.

Tom's quote from Ashvir's Mongoose review page "Probably 70-30 in favour of MMi3"
Title: Re: Mongoose
Post by: peplow on April 13, 2010, 09:36:57 AM
Shilly that interested me aswell, thats why i asked it before, would have suspected it to be nearer equal, but 70-30 to mmi did shock me, i know they are the radical, exposed product but still to sell so many when its so different and specialised shocked me! Be interesting to know how many have gone for the top end and plan on using it and how many have gone for the cheapest just to mess around and try it out!

Just got my hands on a CoR3 Custom Pro. First impressions are you can tell that it's not a traditional blade in terms of length but it compensates with a thicker blade as you would imagine. It picks up very well actually but it's too heavy for me at 2.12/13.

I like the stickers (even though there are some random stickers lol) and the grains are lovely and straight. Edges aren't massive but the spine is quite high.

Pictures on later.

Looks a nice clean blade, does the lack of a bow affect the pickup in any form Colesy? Does it ping nicely off a mallet?
Title: Re: Mongoose
Post by: Colesy on April 14, 2010, 06:05:53 PM
The pick up is nice actually, surprisingly nice. Just briefly tried the mallet and it has a long middle but not the length of the blade.
it is 2 or 3 oz to heavy for me but none-the-less a very nice bat.

He hasn't done anything wrong, but he doesn't fit in with our plans as far as I'm aware.

He isn't playing for England and we already have a couple of Lancs boys signed.

Possibly not in the England frame currently but a lot of people in the know are suggesting he should be especially if Harmy is going to be overlooked but others look to be higher in the pecking order.

Post by: PunterPonting on August 15, 2010, 10:42:34 AM
Well because he hasn't done THAT well over two years, and usually to make it big you need to be plundering runs in 2nd team cricket. And the thing about his age is based on his FC debut being in 2002 suggesting he went to Cambridge in 2001 aged 16. Maybe possible but doesn't seem that likely...
