Title: SA v SL series
Post by: rickjames on January 12, 2017, 01:41:50 PM
Am I missing something? No previous thread?

Anyway we're at the third test now where SA are 2-0 up. Big day for Amla as he marks his 100th test. Played some lovely shots.

6th ton for Duminy also.

For someone with JPs talent he has really underachieved at international level. Great to watch when in full flow.

A Yarpie YJB.  In the side, out of the side, bat three, bat seven, 12th man, open, dropped etc.

On the cricinfo commentary feed someone asked about Hash's average when Wayne Parnell is in the team which turns out to be a rather impressive 256. This knock has bumped his career average back over 50 again.

Karunaratne can only score vs the likes of Zimbabwe and Bangladesh.

Fails against any decent opposition constantly

No fight being shown by the Sri Lankan team.

Really poor cricketing wicket - no way should a pitch be going up and down on days 2 and 3 of a test match. Wouldn't have made a difference to the result but even duminy mentioned he wouldn't have wanted to bat on it at the end.

Not sure what you're watching, looked fine. Certainly better than the roads Australia serve up and batting puddings Asia can produce. SL are just dire and can't bat, simple as that. White ball players.

So if a test is over in 3 days outside the subcontinent it's fine. Even duminy mention the bounce and so did Matthews - so must not have been a great wicket?? Or are they just talking crap. No doubting SL are rubbish

Did you watch it ?

Perfectly acceptable wicket. Who the hell wants a road where batters can just hit anything that moves and rack up the runs. SL needed discipline and technique and were found wanting. SA scored 400 so it simply wasn't a bad wicket.

If Asia want to serve up bunsens then do so, players need to have techniques and be able to adapt, that's the mark of a good batter.. not just smashing runs on roads and when it gets tough duck out

T20 today!

Parnell bowling, has a dolly dropped at 3rd man.
Next ball, keeper drops one gloved to him.
Next ball Parnell drops a pretty simple caught and bowled.

So 3 in 3, pretty neat hat trick.  Parnell looked pissed.

Don't recognise many of the SA players.

Or the srinlamkan called dickwella......... will that get passed the swear filter?

That is quite possibly the most village game of T20 I have ever seen, and I've watched some seriously village cricket

Most pathetic series I've ever seen. Sri Lanka lack the backbone to put up any sort of fight

Faf du plessis his a lovely 185 for 141 balls earlier as SA set 368 for the win.

Tharanga currently attempting to chase it down on his Todd. He is 64 from 34 as sri are 100 for 0 of less than ten overs!!

A good start in Thai chase.

100 up from hanranga in 73 balls.

South Africa dragged them back about after ten, and the dickwella being removed slowed it more but still game on.

Dickwella has impressed me.

Looks like it's a long way off now. A dodgy decision like that doesn't help. Hope they continue to attack

SA on the payroll here? Dekock misses a easy run out by letting it through his gloves and now Tahir drops one

Old Francois had become unleashed since he was made Test captain. Most fluent I've ever seen him across all formats

Historic win by Sri Lanka after being hammered recently. That was some knock by kusal

SA have been close to losing a game at home for a while but surely they chocked this. 78 run last wicket partnership.

Can’t be a good test match

Glad Sri Lanka won.

Watched it end of day 2. Southa Africa could have and Sri Lanka all out a 100 behind, but stern and olivier looked more interested in intimidating and hurting Sri Lanka 9 and 10 than they did in getting them out.
Holding was going mad on commentary, something daft like 70 percent of balls banged in short.

Well it seems those 50 runs has cost them!

And without Chandimal and Matthews, probably their best two bats. Great win

I've seen Kusal Perera bat a few times and thought he was going to waste his incredible amount of talent he has. Bearing in mind he's a very good keeper but lost his place to Dickwella. Good to see Kusal showing his true ability. His six hitting is very reminiscent of his hero Jayasuriya.

These finishes just can’t be replicated in white ball.. cracking last days drama.

SA really have declined badly. Great win for SL after being hammered in the previous two series. Steyn and Oliver bowled way too short too often but hey ho. Great entertainment

Sri Lanka having SA in trouble again. The batting is not good enough - They’re struggling without AB

The likes of Amla are past their best and bavuma isn’t good enough

De Kock is playing beautifully though. Just needs someone to stay with him for a bit.

With the quota system and a number of quality players leaving,  it is just a matter of time before SA become an average team from the great team they used to be...

On the other hand, good to see SL and WI teams becoming stronger. It is good for international cricket overall.. Hopefully the WC will see close games without too many one sided affairs..

Highly unfair on SL for us to be talking of SA’s supposed “decline” - they just hammered India, the worlds number 1 side not that long ago. SL were simply amazing. Period.

Taking nothing away from SL, in fact really good to see them play at a level that no one saw coming.

Regarding the SA vs Ind series, remember that De Villiers was still there playing for SA. De villiers played crucial knocks in both the tests that SA won. In the third test where De Villiers failed in both innings, Ind won. So he makes so much difference. If he was playing in this series rather than hammering bowlers in the local T20 leagues, the end result could have been different. But again, it is not SL who have asked De villiers to retire or asked SA to come up with their quota system. So they deserve every credit!!
