Looks like the sensation that is AB won't be asked to return to the Test side. Absolutely ludicrous that they are obsessed with quotas that their chief selector basically guaranteed walking wicket Bavuma a place for the NZ series yet AB is deemed surplus...

Someone ring Andrew Gale, tell 'im there's a Kolpak going...

I reckon he'll just squeeze past a kolpak salary with his IPL and other t20 deals :)
-
And South Africa get annoyed when all there best white players dissapeared for deals elsewhere.
(Look at the kolpakshire xi posted, it didn't look anywhere new rmaking any kind of quota)
It's a massive shame as a strong South Africa is good for international cricket and competition, but if they continue down this route there gonna end up a laughing stock with a few international level players and 8 mediocre ones merely picked for the colour of there skin.
International cricket should always have there best xi based on ability! No quota, no politics, no "boys clubs".
At the end of the day us as a paying public want to see quality and that's what we should get.

you leave my little fantasies alone you! :P

Does AB want to play Test cricket?

It should not matter wether it's International ,Domestic County, Club ,School no matter what the Sport should selection be based on Colour . You get selected on Merit full stop

Does AB want to play Test cricket?
From what I've read on cricinfo there seems to be a suggestion he may not want to. I think it makes their quota decision easier if he doesn't as Bavuma continues
-
^^^Perfect for all parties then?^^^
-
It could be convenient and easier to blame the quotation system rather than take some stick for not wanting to play test cricket? Seems to me his heart's not in it...
-
de Villiers has made himself unavailable for the upcoming Test series in New Zealand but has confirmed he hasn't retired. Gearing towards the 2019 World Cup
-
Pretty obvious that he might play the Eng series and then retire from tests to focus on ODI's and T20.
-
The way I read the article it was more AB's decision in wanting to be ready for the world cup in 2019. But the truer storey is likely to be more about AB wanting to play more T20 and cash in. The ICC seriously needs to address this as cricket at the moment is eating itself.
-
read the cricinfo article...yes seems he is a bit mixed up or he does not want to be seen turning his back on SA cricket. His salary from SA, would be dwarfed by IPL earnings, reading between the lines it seems he does not want to risk getting injured so he can play WC and IPL cricket. That's how I read it.
The quota system may or may not play a role it's hard to tell. Could they really leave him out if he was available for the NZ series?
I think sometimes you need to be a bit more honest. It's a poor state of affairs with any quota system but that may not be a real he wants to limit his time playing for SA in all formats.
it's a professional sport these days, players will earn as much as they can(look at chris gayle for example), there's nothing wrong with that and SA don't have the money to pay massive wages
what price playing for your Country is a good question.
:)

Its a shame that the scheduling is so taxing. As its robbing us early of some great players..?
-
AB will not be touring england in summer! what a shame we don't get to see a legend!
That's his test career gone
-
well speaking to our old SA overseas, he seems certain he will play the England Test Series... I guess we will have to wait and see..!

Not sure if mentioned already but anyone seen he is now with MRF?! Also finally seems to have changed from Albion to Masuri - must have been one of the last Albion users in International cricket
-
ABD and MRF --- he finally makes his debut :)
-
Looks like AbD is going to retire from test match cricket. What a shame!
-
As a South African, I am really disappointed even though I think it has been coming for a while. I thought he would go on to smash every South African batting record that exists. He will have his reasons and far be it from anyone to judge, but as fans it would just be great to see more of him in the Test arena.

Anyone know where I can find the full sky masterclass Nasser did with AB? Keep getting teased with snippets on YouTube and I think it would be good to watch the whole thing

I have been trying to find it as well..would be great if anyone can find it..
-
Probably a daft question, but I assume you don't have Sky Cricket?
-
No is it on there?
-
No is it on there?
It is. Not sure how I'd get it over you legally though.

I had sky account but it shows as content not available.
Specifically, can anyone with a sky sports account confirm if they can play these videos:

Surely there must be at least one forumite with sky sports account who can just verify if the above links work or not..:)
-
He has stood down as odi skipper but is now available for all three formats for SA
-
AB, like Cook, should focus on records. Captaincy is over-rated!
-
They could've used him a couple of weeks ago
-
The just concluded Eng series would have been so interesting if he played. Nevertheless, good decision to step down from captaincy and focus on playing all formats. Captaincy is an unnecessary drain on energy and skills of such a high caliber player.
-
Slightly surprised but excellent news. You want the best players playing test cricket
A shot in the arm for SA who are just a couple of players away from being a very good side(again)
I think we were a bit flattered 3-1, a fit philander , devilliers , rabada not banned for a test and it could of been a different result.
-
The background music on his announcement video 😂
-
I give it 6 months before he says he's had enough of test cricket again
-
Sits out a long away tour in England, announces availability for home series against Bangladesh hmmmmmmmmmm
-
Can't help but think that if SA had any batting depth he'd have been told to get f-ked a while ago now.
-
Not sure what number he would bat...they can't drop Bavuma due to the quota system. Amla opening would fix a few issues then again he's probably past his best.
Might get away with 4 bowlers at home though
-
they can't drop Bavuma due to the quota system.
Why mention Bavuma when he was one of the few batsmen on the past tour that was decent and showed some fight?
-
Do think though If the t20 money's right SA will lose a few players.
-
As a Proteas supporter, I appreciated the video from AB. I was definitely in the camp that didn't think he should pick his tours/games/series, but his openness in the video maybe softened my view. Maybe it would have helped if he made this at the beginning of this whole saga.
He is one of our best, and in a struggling team you need your best. But I think personal circumstances should also be taken into account. Communication to the fans, public etc is key in situations like these.
End result, he is available across all formats, which is good for SA.
-
Do think though If the t20 money's right SA will lose a few players.
I think T20 money will bring the retirement age forward for many players by a year or two.
-
AbD masterclass right now against bangladesh...cashing in on rubbish bowling but love watching this lad bat.
Can he get 200??
-
Mr 360. Jesus Christ.
