So I've noticed lately there's a large increase of professionals using Masuri OS2, over the VS... Root opting for a Shrey.
Is this down to weight? Visability? Breathability?
-
I got an Original ti from Jake before Christmas, just had a net with it this morning for the first time. I previously used the older style with an Elite ti grille. I haven't weighed them, I'm not that fussy.
I didn't really notice any difference in weight, the ventilation was good. I batted for 30 mins and normally I'd want to take the older one off, didn't feel the need today. The only difference was that I had my old one set with the gap as wide as it would go, got used to the new one after half a dozen deliveries then didn't know the difference after that
Happy I got one
-
I used my OS2 yesterday for the first time after using a VS Elite for the last year (both steel grilles). The main difference for me was that the OS2 felt more comfortable on the head, and less annoying without the adjuster on the back.
Weight wise I didn't feel much difference but when some of my team mates went looking at it they were immediately saying it felt a lot lighter than the VS lids they have.
-
Really noticeable that the pros are all going for the OS2 lids now.
-
This wasn't expected by Masuri either, a tweet last year asked them wether the OS2 would be worn by the pro's and they said it was aimed at club players and the pros would continue to wear the VS.

Yeah i know would like to hear first hand why they switched
-
I think it's got to be because of a) the weight and b) the more traditional design that a lot of pros would have used for years will be a lot more familiar to them.
That or Masuri have said, "we've just launched this new helmet and we need you to wear it on tv to get some exposure for it"
-
While my Vision Series isn't uncomfortable, the new Original series felt like the padding was placed in more head shaped places when I tried it on.
It's lighter and more comfortable, which may be why a lot of Pros have switched.
-
Also the pros OS2 seem to have a yellow lining on the inside that can be seen at the back of the helmet (have a close look in the t20 game today)
My new OS2 doesn't have this?

While at @Vitas Cricket Jake explained this to me. Basically it's been treated with antibacterial stuff so your helmet doesn't stink!

It's not quite correct to say all professionals have switched to the OS2, as a quick example in the past 2 or 3 days I've seen Faf, De Kock, K Braithwaite, Ian Bell, Kusal Mendis, Johan Botha, Shoaib Malik, Travis Head and more all wearing the Vision Series
The Vision Series will continue to be marketed by Masuri as the safest helmet option. The only helmet with a twin shell design and halo peak system. The Original Series is an option available for those who want a helmet that's a bit lighter and more traditionally styled, the compromise is it isn't a safe (still passes the required safety test) due to being a single shell design without a Halo peak system.
Pros won't care about price etc, but given the vision series is as light and as traditional looking as a Shrey, as well as being priced the same, why would you go for a shrey given that a masuri has been reliably built in the UK, and a shrey (as my recent topic discusses) will highly likely be carrying a defect from new?

Jake,
On PDC their is the VS Test model - see link below - it would seem to fall between the VS Elite and the OS Series.
Is says it still has all the halo and twin shell of the Elite just without the extra bar- is this not the best compromise??

Vision Series Test and Elite models have both been available for 2+ years. The only difference between VS Test and Elite is that Elite has 2 bars in the grille and Test has one. The original series is lighter and more traditional looking than the vision series, the two key criteria when people have rejected vision series helmets (whether Elite or Test) have been weight and looks.
@Woodyspin we have pro foams in stock in all thicknesses. An entire teplecament set of helmet padding is £25, just a pro foam swoopaband is (I think) £10.
-
I think the tightening mechanism on the VS may come into it as well.
I personally couldn't get on with it at all.
-
Does the new OS2 helmet not have the same tightening mechanism as the vision series then? Is it more like the old masuri with the Velcro at the back?!

No and no! :)
It is similar to the GN helmets in that it's not adjustable, so either fits or it doesn't.
I am a standard size in the Vision Series, but needed a large in the OS2 (Jake said he is the same) so the sizing isn't quite so generous in the OS2

So there no extra Velcro pads of different sizes Like in the ayrtek ones?

I think Jake said you can bodge it with the Vision Series padding to change the fit, but not officially, no.

Well that's poor.
I was hoping to find one in a sale, but looks like I deffo need to try before I buy on these.

There is official Masuri padding yes, large was a little to big for me so Masuri sent out some thicker padding which worked a treat

Second net with my OS2 today, batted for 30mins with no heat/sweating problems. This is very unusual for me!! I like this far better than the old style. I literally forget I'm wearing it. As for the fit, I got a couple of extra foams from Jake and sorted it out with ease.

Got it before retailers then as that's not something I was aware of
-
Surely a selection should just come with the lid?
I'm not sure if they charge or what, but it's just seems a pain to have got a helmet then have to contact Masuri and get another product to make it fit.

Going forward padding like the picture above will be available on masuri display stands in retailers, we currently have the original vision series swoopabands and sizing foams, as well as the pro foam variants, originally masuri said there were no sizing foams for the original series. It it appears this isn't the case so they will be in Stock soon enough.
-
I tweeted Masuri saying the medium was too small and large too big on the OS2. So they sent out the thinner and thicker foam to my local shop (Owzat) free of charge for me to try.
Ended up going with large after trying it with thicker foam.

Super thats great to know sizing foam is on the way. Haven't had a service issue with Masuri, they are always happy to help with any kind of request.

What is the price for one of these with a Ti grill?
